Happened much more back then then now for sure. Of course all armies or religions have done horrible things in war that's what war is. But you hear about many many battles of opposing generals leaders kings etc.. that truly respected one of another but those were the times. Now you have terriost video taping the murder of innocents and behading and sexuallu assaulting it's horrible. Even regular wars I'll say the Vietnam or Korean whatever the most recents you have people torturing prisoners and all sorts of shit. I understand torture and that's not what alot of people admit when it's needed but doing it for fun is absolutely messed up. Say if someone needed to be tortured to stop a horrible attack I would agree with that. Thats what I'm trying to say. But I'm ranting and getting way off topic lol it's the weed😂😂

Richrad came late and he was very coward, because their were wars between Muslims sultanates if not richrad chickenheard would have been taken by Salahueddin as a bride, do not make from this richrad a hero because the conflicts between Muslims which made salaheddin late to kill Richrad, Siljuk against Salahueddine, Irak anti Salahueddin and Zandjid sultanate anti Salahueddine, read history Richard was a big coward in history and he fought against only few trooops of muslims and he was saved to run back to europe with only 6 of his soldiers and then he was punished of escaping jerusalem. Conclusion Richard was a big coward according to english and french historian also german historians declares that Richard was only a fake hero and why was he in jail when he escape the war in jerusalem and returns with only six soldiers back to europe also he could only fight against some troops of muslims with his 30 times army than the troop of muslims 40000 thousands against 1200 according to all arab historian because salahueddine was ill and at the sametime he was in war against 5 muslims sultanate of old problems between them, so Richrad would never ever won a war against those muslims if they were not in war between them. Leonheard was coward also oxford university told this to journalist that he fought against a small troop in the first battle and against some passnger who were civilians why the who crusaders armies were killed in one of the famouse battle and richrad had only to escape back to europe.

I visited Salahueddine tumb in Damascus long before the war, his real tum is in Damascus in one old mosque, you could see his flags and swords and spears. According to british historians and arab historian richard was a coward he could only win with 40000 soldiers against 1200 in some battle because Salahueddin was in war already before the arriving of Richard with 130000 soldiers from all europe and salahueddine was at the same time in war against 5 or more muslims sultanate of an old problem between them, if not richard would find his end in the first day and also he avoided to meet salahueddine who was fighting against many enemies according to history of local witnesses.

What, truly, drove French-English King Richard Coeur de Lion [Lionheart] 1 of England to lose heart before capturing Jerusalem from Arab Leader Saladin, in my minds eye, was not the question ''Can my army capture the city fortress?'' but the real question ''Can what remains of my army after the capture hold the city fortress long-term without massive and constant resupply of men and weapons?'' The real truthful answer would have had to be an absolute ''No''.

I never said that Richard captured Jerusalem. But in battle, Richard was the superior leader. He was also a capable logistician, who understood that he did not have sufficient troops to hold Jerusalem, even if he took it. Thing is, Richard simply didn't have enough bodies. Saladin, who was fighting closer to his own territory, had access to a much more vast pool to draw his manpower from, as well as other logistical leg-ups.
Both Saladin and Richard were great leaders… but Saladin did have the advantage of fighting close to home, where Richard was thousands of miles away from England.
Both were unsatisfied with the peace; Saladin thought the Crusaders would use their foothold on the coast to retake Jerusalem, whereas the Crusaders were disappointed that they did not succeed in the final goal, even if they had secured a beachhead.
Richard was not beaten by Saladin. He simply had considerably less manpower and was facing intrigues by his treacherous brother. He won the battles, but Saladin and the problematic logistical situation of taking Jerusalem without the important castles around it, prevented him from finishing the Crusade's objectives.

    • @rayhanali1041

Richards was not a great leader. He should be called Richard the coward. He killed 3000 prisoners who had literally no weapons and he butchered them no mercy. He broke this treaty disgustingly. Saladin himself paid for the release of the prisoners who wanted to leave Jerusalem after the victory with his own money in which Richard didn't. Richard was a coward.

I am fairly sure Saladin was a General of Nora-dine King of Damascus and was involved with his Jihad upon the Crusader States, and did not claim his title in Egypt until 1165. Some people claim he actually killed Caym and took Egypt and then turned on Nora-dine. I am also fairly sure he did not march on Jerusalem until after the Crusaders had attacked Muslim pilgrims traveling to holy places.

trevorpitts1 While i do agree with you entirely, and since I am not religious in the slightest and understand history is speculative. Regarding Saladin; we do have plenty of historical documentation to work with. Sadly this documentary did not take into account a lot of what we know regarding Saladin and speculated on a lot of his motives without looking at the facts. I watched this documentary excited to learn something about what a lot of historical scholars consider one of the best military minds of his day. I must say i was gravely disappointed.

Benn Y Stimson Completely agree. The Crusades where the Catholic version of a jihad. And while they are glorified today by western people as a strong showing of faith; largely fro the religious community, the Hospitallers and the Knights Templar unleashed chaos upon a civilization and a society that was pushing the boundaries of philosophy and medicine. The consolidation of documents from the ancient world and the leap forward in the study of mathematics to the early Christians was just as scary as freedom of religion and a free society is today to jihad elements of the Islamic world. If only people would look to history to see what radical ideology and national fervor can do to a society. Hindsight should always be 20/20.

This documentary leaves out alot of important details and the narrator's dialog makes many observations that aren't support by facts that are presented.
Where is the mention of 100,000 German troops marching to join him? (who eventually turn back) or mention of the French and the French Army that actually arrived and participated in the initial siege before Richard arrived, and whom eventually left because of frustration with Richard? What of the christian politics and leaders already present at Acre? There are two Kings of Jerusalem leading the Christians at Acre already...and no mention. It's all Richard and Saladin.
This documentary's main failing is omission of detail that create a more complex picture.

    Richard was a criminal:
Richard handed Salah-ed-Din a defeat, and Richard executed 2,700 Turkish captives after accepting a ransom payment for them, but they retreated before capturing Jerusalem, essentially achieving nothing other than confirming Salah-ed-Din's image of Christians as untrustworthy barbarians.

Which was the most important city of Christendom. After the Crusaders took back Jerusalem, they actually made peace with most of their Muslim neighbors, and even helped Muslims fight against other aggressive Muslims such as the Sultan of Baghdad. They made peace with Egypt and would protect them for a long time against other attack Muslims, it was only after Saladin took Egypt that Egypt became an enemy of the Crusader States.

What splendid scholar John Gillingham is. Though he was a masterful warrior, Richard was not his father Henry II. He would have been wiser to have done as his great father had and prudently determined to rule his own vast empire rather that ruinously bankrupt it on a crusade that achieved little tangible political advantage.

77777Spooky :: Christianity I should religion of peace but Islam never can a religion of peace: Just look at the AlQaeda and it's ideology of genocides and destructions throughout the world, and don't forget the bombing of World Trade Center, New York, which caused loss of millions of billions of dollars in term of money, and that evil deed was done in the name of Jihad, Islam, even then you would say Islam is peace ? Look at the ISIS in Syria and Iraq and their evil genocides, Destructions, rapes, sex slaves beheadings by Bagdadi and his minions in the name of Islam, even then are you going to say Islam is the champion of peace ? Look at Afghanistan where there is daily bombing and killing by the Taliban terrorists in the name of their blood thirsty Allah and obnoxious Islam, even after that will you call Islam is the champion of peace ? Look at Pakistan as the factory and exporter of terrorists in the name of their God damned Allah and Islam as in Pakistan Al Qaeda, Taliban, Laskar e Toiba Jaish e Mohammad, Laskar e Jhangvi, Hizbul Mujahideen, Jamaat e Islam. we're and are harboured, financed, trained and exported against the neighboring countries, all in the name of their blood thirsty Allah and pernicious Islam, even after that also you would call Islam a peaceful religion ? ,Look at African muslim countries, Boko Haram Islamic terrorists are killing thousands of innocent people in Nigeria and Kenya in the name of bloody Islam, and you call Islam peaceful ? Look at Al Shabab Islamic terrorists in Somalia who in killing spree of innocent people in the name of Islamism, even than you call Isla is peaceful ? Look at the Islamist terrorist attacks in London, Paris, Germany, Holland, India, Norway, Sweden, Russia, even after those horrific events carried out in the name of Islam you want to say Islam is peaceful ? So Islam means negation of peace, humanity, milk of human kindness, falsehood, deception, lies, Violence . Muslims have no courage to confront the truth and facts but always try to hide it and start telling lies . Don't base your reasoning on biased prejudiced and partial Video shows which are financed by the Petro dollars of Arab countries.
