Once I went to Avila, many years ago. Such an embellished, medieval spanish town. The album cover portrays with amazing yet tempestuous "warmth" (obscure, of goyesque proportions) how the nocturnal canvas falls upon its bucolic aubades, full of ghostly trees just like those. A beautiful sight. As beautiful as this album. Thanks, Waldorf.
One of my favorite artists in Metal and music in general. "Griseus" is in my top 10 albums of all time, and I think this new record is a brilliant masterpiece too. Mr. Rosenqvist is a genius. Hands down to the best album of 2021. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This album is a journey through the full spectrum of emotion, from darkness to triumph, and highlights the ingenuity and resilience of the human spirit. It's music such as this that will live through the ages. Thank you to Horace and everyone involved in making this album a reality
Eternal Unrest is the clear standout piece from this album in my opinion. And I think the piano interludes provide nice moments of rest (when you're listening to the whole album) between the actual songs that are mostly metal-dominated this time around. Also anyone else notice that one of the trees from the background is actually in FRONT of the tree that's closer to the foreground? That's hurting my brain.
Holy shit here we go. Six years after discovering the masterpiece that is Griseus. My favourite album ever. So much expectation..! The comments look promising.
Just found out about this albums existence... Not sure exactly what the right thing to say about this is... I'm not sure just yet if this is supposed to be a successor to Griseus... or if it is its own thing... And well, in the right mindset... Aquilus is downright epic sexy... My son was conceived to the soundtrack of Griseus... Anyways, this album is setting a new precedent of heavy and ethereal... Shall my mind cling to my bones upon their rest??? Shall my tomb be the wilderness??? Shall I lay dormant... Shall my spirit ascend to the stars... Shall I be reborn to an endless cycle???
Totally outstanding and breathtaking! I waited too long for this new masterpiece, but never forgot this band. The previous records have a singular meaning for me and particularly inspire my artistic works. What to say about this one? It brings me the same feeling from the others in the end - "what to listen to next? everything just sounds shit now!" haha The wonderful piano, taking tones of horror and majesty, like a movie crossing our heads. Excepcional!! I love the brutality of this one, it feels darker, but still keeping the pauses for melodies. And it's something Horace does perfectly, harmonizing chaos and peace to blow a fantasy in our minds. At the first listening, some parts may sound similar to Griseus, but this idea easily dissipates. The energy is totally different. It's much rawer and, for me personally, it sounds closer to Arbor, which also brings a feral nature and demoniac atmosphere. The main thing about Griseus is that it's almost purely classical, sophisticated in another level. But in Bellum I the sound is clearly more crude and loose, in a positive way. The acoustic guitar is a refinement apart. It brought me tango's and bossa nova's references - it felt like listening to Tom Jobim in the middle of The Silent Passing, the most raging song from the album, what a madness!! hahaha I just love to notice these Latin nuances. Can't wait for Bellum II. And, please, come to Brazil!! LIVE IS A MUST!! We need bands like that playing here.
Beautiful, Ethereal, Dark and Enchanting. Worth the wait! (On a side note, I've listened to it twice and the first couple of piano notes at the beginning of the album make me think I'm about to break into Total Eclipse of the Heart 😅.)
This insane, the change of pace and style they took while still keeping the original idea of true symphony. I was beginning to think aquilus was done for, but they came back HARD with this one. Live performances are a MUST. Fuck, I'll design your stage and everything.
Damn, he's so good at transitions. The final track is just beautiful. The beginning of the album is a bit underwhelming, perhaps anything would be after the genius of Griseus, but it definitely picks up after the first few songs. Lacks a bit of acoustic guitar which Griseus had plenty of. I thought Griseus actually went on for a bit too long and the best was at the start. Glad we got some synths at the end of Bellum I which is why I love Emypreal so much. Perhaps it'll grow on me more. Griseus - 9.5/10 Bellum I - 7.5/10
I like this even more than Griseus, which was already excellent. It's more mellow and immersive in a way, yet also darker without necessarily being more "aggressive".
Oh. My. F*cking. God! I just found out that this album came out because it was nominated for the Metal Storm Awards. When I saw the name I had to do a double-take. I just couldn't believe that Aquilus was releasing an album 10 years after Griseus! I haven't been this shocked since Disillusion released a new album after 13 years of silence. I'm listening to Bellum I as I write this and it sounds amazing! The first notes of the first track and that stunning cover immediately brought me back to 2009 when I first discovered the masterpiece that is Griseus. Also, I hope it doesn't take another 10 years for Bellum II ;P
Apparently he piled up enough material for two albums before finishing Bellum I. So Bellum II should take shorter than it took for Bellum I to come out.
There's no one, no one on this planet, in this decade, who can make such beautiful yet dark album other than the Master of Atmospheric Black Metal Himself : Aquilus. I think Opeth sounds close enough even though they're not in the same genre or on the same level as this masterpiece.
Do not get me wrong, this is still a masterpiece. But i my humble opinion, it lacks a bit of inovation. It's very similar to Griseus, structuraly and melodicaly. Of course, compared to the rest of the industry, it's miles ahead, it's something completly out of this world... but it does feels like Griseus Part II.
The big WHOA factor of listening to Griseus for the first time isn't there of course but this progressive black metal / folk / orchestral score combination idea deserves to be explored further. So it's 100% the correct move to continue on Griseus's path imo. He could base his whole career on this mixture of genres and I wouldn't complain.
Why do you guys always add that thing in the description "the master of xyz" with every artist featured on this channel, just becomes old, bet you'd call the worst artist the master as well if you guys distributed their music as well.
Um where did the Perturbator's Welcome To Nocturne City music video (that used footage of Akira) go? It was uploaded on his channel but I can't find it anymore
Unpopular opinion perhaps but Album would have been perfect without all those really long piano instrumental fillers interludes and i say this as someone who loves atmosphere and classical symphonies, but it's just too much i can't listen to the whole thing more than once
10 years i'm waiting for this new album, and I'm not disappointed, it's a masterpiece !!!!! Thanks Waldorf and thanks Bloodmusic :)

Fucking breathtaking. Every minute of it. Well worth the wait. Album Of The Fucking Year.
what a brilliant mind Horace has when it comes to music!
A masterpiece that goes far beyond the borders of metal as we know it.
This is truly a dream come true.

The master of ABM finally come back!!! Can't wait to get my physical order
I just had an atmospheric bowel movement myself.
Oh yeah. This tickles the brain.
Holy shit here we go. Six years after discovering the masterpiece that is Griseus. My favourite album ever. So much expectation..! The comments look promising.

The Latin nuances add so much. The end guitar part of The Silent Passing is the best.
majestueux
Spanks Griseus.
Beautiful, Ethereal, Dark and Enchanting. Worth the wait!

To put it simply, extremely impressive
Is it just me or do i hear some Colosseum infuence in here
The formula still works. I am on my first listen so far, but expecting this to be another masterpiece.
Great album! Thx
Absolutely phenomenal record!

I thought this album was quite a bit heavier than Griseus.
Oh finally!!!! Thank you
Nareszcie!!! Yeees!!!
Phenomenal album!
Killer album
one word comes to mind... GRANDEUR😀

I've waited so much for this to come. brilliant!!!!!!!

Fabuleux 🎉🎉🎉
Quintessential.
Such a great atmosphere, dark mood and overall top quality album!
Need Part 2 immediately
Still no news on Bellum II, right? We need it
@toprak3479 according to Aquilius it's up to the label he can't do anything about it

#2021
Very lovely
Damn, this is good... Damn.
Absolutely bangin'
Where's the sample from at the beginning of eternal unrest?
Encyclopaedia Metallum says it's from a movie adaptation of The Picture of Dorian Gray btw
Excelso. Sin duda, de lo mejor del 2021.
Do not get me wrong, this is still a masterpiece. But i my humble opinion, it lacks a bit of inovation. It's very similar to Griseus, structuraly and melodicaly. The Silent Passing is REALLY FUCKING GREAT tho. Possibily my favorite of all time from Aquilus. Love the last bit with the jazzy guitar.

Plenty of decent moments, but incredibly overrated. Sometimes less is more...
Is a matter of taste, not overrated imo
Unpopular opinion perhaps but Album would have been perfect without all those really long piano instrumental fillers interludes and i say this as someone who loves atmosphere and classical symphonies, but it's just too much i can't listen to the whole thing more than once
first listen through.
better not be any nazi content.
im about to give up on black metal.
😂😂😂
Imagine there existing a subgenre called NSBM
We live in the worst timeline
🤤
is this Opeth?
Aquilus one man band.
