Good luck to Lee and Louisa ! What a brilliant initiative. The local Council would do well to sit with this couple and see how they can help. It does not have to cost money. A bit of red tape cutting would help. They could maybe find space for a Community hub somewhere.

The luftwaffe did less damage to Gateshead High Street than the Liebour controlled council has done
What needs to be investigated is the £23 million wasted on building a locked up never used car park and the wasteland next to The Sage where the supposedly £90 million original cost of an unwanted or needed music venue in direct competition to The Sage has ballooned to £350 million
This invisible venue was supposed to be built and operational this year
Gateshead High Street is best avoided, it's literally the dirty back lane leading to the bright lights of the big city

Haven't seen Gateshead High Street for about 30 years as I've moved away. Although I'd heard it had declined, I am shocked at just how much. Trinity Square looks fab now though. Good on them at the Tynesider for injecting life back into the high street. It is a fantastic idea because so many older people don't feel safe at night but still want to go out. Very impressed with the Railway Quarter because that used to look so dingy and dirty but now it looks bright and welcoming. Can't wait for your next video.

Thanks for starting out at my favourite pub. The Microbus and The Station East are the beating heart of Gateshead which attracts excellent musicians and bands to complement their excellent and very reasonably priced craft beers. As for the southern part of The High Street it needs pulling down and replaced with open spaces which could bring some much needed beauty to this bleak area!

I worked as an engineer on the trinity square project and thought at the time this could suck the life out of the town.Giving everyone the same shiny anodyne version of a town they’ve got elsewhere isn’t gonna bring money to a place. Its character that makes you want to come to a place and that’s formed by generation on generation of people of the place and what they bring to it.
The place you didn’t go was the black bull.I regularly run up as it’s something of a legend on the punk scene as much as trillians is on the rock and metal scene and the punk scene is much bigger than people realise(big influence on a lot of current massive bands and the festivals get serious numbers)and Maz that runs the place goes back to the broken doll on westgate rd and has seen them all and still knows most.Great people, should definitely put a bit of a spotlight on them. One of the many varieties that are the spice of life making a place special

Over aggressive traffic wardens killed that high street for me. Pounced as soon as I parked outside of, and went into the Post Office a good while ago. Was parked only a couple of minutes. Appealed to council, and told they had zero tolerence parking rules and NO grace period at all. People wont go to shops if they get fined for doing so. Looks like the awful council are still happy to keep aggressively destroying Gateshead.

They were handing out free coffee (and access to toilets) during the Great North Run, hope they make a success of it.

Great video. I'm in Newcastle and not really familiar with Gateshead. I did recognise the Central Bar only because I'm sure it featured in an episode of Vera. 😂

Remember was thriving here when I was growing up in the 80s/90s. Such a shame places like these are going to the nakkers yard now with lack of investment , online shopping and lack of money in people’s pockets. Sad to see.
Ps….Eddie, get yourself over to Felling and do one on the Merry Widow of Windy Nook. I’m not going to stop asking 🤣👍

I used to work at the careers office opposite the bus station and then at the civic centre in mid 90’s. I moved to Leeds for University and actually did my dissertation back in 1998 about the downfall of Gateshead High Street and the impact caused by the Metro Centre.

I wouldn’t let Martin Gannon and his team run a bath, never mind a whole borough. Gannon is the worst thing to happen to Gateshead in its history
