Hello Miranda, long time viewer, first ever comment......True Lies is one of his VERY best...comedy/action/adventure and excellent supporting cast, you will laugh and cry, thank you (BTW love your new channel)
I grew up loving this movie, I'm so glad you watched and enjoyed it! Arnold's partner Detective O'Hara (played by Pamela Reed) was both hilarious and inspiring, her strength was critical in the end despite being incapacitated for most of the movie. Since you enjoyed this, I highly recommend The Last Action Hero (1993) and True Lies (1994), both are great Arnold action-comedies.

I've made this comment on other reactions to this movie, but it's such a nice fact that I'm going to repeat it - the guy who plays Crisp was such a nice person on set, to kids and adults, that they had to film the scene where Crisp grabs the kid several times, because the kid just couldn't get scared by his friend. He just wasn't intimidated because he knew the actor. In an industry full of jerks, that people like that exist cheers me up. Also, Arnold had a reunion with almost all the kids in the movie (now adults) and they all had great memories of working on it - as horrible as Hollywood can be, some people take care of the weaker people instead of exploiting them.

The writing for what the kids do in this movie is so good. It's not jokes that an adult would write because it would be funny coming from a kid (like that Airplane coffee scene) but actual things a kid might do, like yelling back to his mom that the teacher isn't married. The premise and poster might mislead people into thinking it's a family movie, when it's really really not. *TO THIS DAY* my friend group and I use "I could be a tumor / It's not a Toomah!" in our friend-group banter about our health.... only in the last few years has the laughter become a little restrained... we're all getting to an age where the odds go up that it might be a toom, er, tumor. We're in our 50's now...
Between this and Twins, and him pranking Sylvester Stallone into being the lead on "Stop or my mom will shoot", I think arnold's got some pretty great comedic chops lol
41:00 I was about the same age as these kids when that movie came out, and I remember all the "stranger danger" stuff, too. But they depicted strangers as the most shifty, menacing looking people. Like they'd be illustrations of dudes with like black burglar masks on and prison stripes and shit. So, like, in my little kid head, anyone who didn't look creepy and evil wasn't a stranger. I told my mom that when I was a little older. She used to be a teacher herself, and she told me that stopped doing it that way for that exact reason.
I just noticed for the first time that the ferret is introduced just as John Kimble first mentions that he has a son. It’s actually great writing because it’s the moment the audience first gets a glimpse that Kimble is truly a human being and not a machine, and then we see that he is fully capable of caring for another living creature. The ferret is actually a thematic motif throughout the film. When he introduces it to the class, he makes his breakthrough with the kids. And when it saves the day at the end by attacking Crisp, Kimble finally becomes a whole person again. I know this is a goofy comedy, but it’s actually quite well-written and Arnold gives one of his best performances in it.
This movie is one of my favorite comedies. It has so many funny scenes and some of the most quotable Arnie comedy lines. I think might have watched this one forty to fifty times. When I was in Astoria in 2017 I just had to take some pictures in front of the school because it’s so iconic and beloved. Plus, Astoria is great for the 1-2 punch of also being where they filmed a lot of Goonies, and of only being 20 miles from where the beach scenes were shot for that film also.
This is a masterclass movie of quality acting performances from such a wide variety of actor stereotypes that don't act like their stereotypes and it makes the story very refreshing. Also, I've gone to seen the various landmarks in Astoria. My favorite landmark is definitely the Restaurant setting (which is sadly closed now).
Great choice Miranda :) And great to see you widening your scope on the movies :) Total pleasure watching you enjoy these. I would recommend you see Twins as well, where he stars with Danny DeVito (that will put you on a whole different path of films, including Romancing The Stone, Ruthless People and the outstanding War of The Roses.)
Fun fact: If you ever play the original Silent Hill on the PS1, you can visit the school from this movie in the school area in the game. They took this school as a layout for a typical american school :D
My wife and I saw this in a theater when it was released. It was such a fun movie and a fun time. You didn't expect to see him in a role like this after his previous movies so that was on top of it being a comedy. The surprise. So well written. So well performed. "Whose your daddy and what does he do" is STILL a common quote among those of us who saw this back then. Of course "It's not a tuma" is timeless. I am so glad you finally saw this movie. It is reminiscent of how fun movies used to be, without special effects and intelligence insulting levels of needing to suspend disbelief. I miss movies like this.
You talking about your student-teacher experience and the scene it went with reminded me of back in HS, we had to do a 4-5 week internship, do whatever you want (with approval)... I was thinking of being a teacher, so I went back to my 3rd grade teacher as basically a TA. One day, monitoring recess, one student decided to use me as a personal jungle gym... and about 6 more joined in. I'm telling them to get off, and trying my best not to "Hulk out" to get them off... a 4th grade teacher came and rescued me. But one lesson I keep with me as a manager decades later, "I've been watching you... and I get that you want to be their friend. But you have to be the authority figure first, or else you are in big trouble."
Conan, the Last Action Kindergarten Terminator Commando Eraser. He's a True Predator who Lies and can Totally Recall anything. There's no Escape Plan if you try Running Man. He will Hunt you like a Scavenger until the End of Days and if he hasn't caught you by The 6th Day, there will be so much Collateral Damage in the Aftermath.
10:45 : In the french dub, when the stewardess asked "Est-ce que tout va bien avec votre famme ?", which is a close enough translation of "Is your wife Ok sir". They made him answer "Pourquoi ? Je peux en changer ?" Which would translate as "Why ? Can I get another one ?""
"I wouldn't say anything, but there would be signs" That's a great bit/edit. You made me laugh, thank you. Usually you are quite good at figuring things out, but in this movie you were hilariously bad at it lol. Half the movie to realize what he was doing at school? lol Bless you Miranda. I don't remember the first time I watched this movie, cinema or home, but I remember I was not a huge fan of it as it wasn't exactly Commando, or Predator, or Conan, etc. Being older I see how good it is, even though it's not one of those movies. Thanks for the reaction.
I LOVE this movie, and I am glad you enjoyed it also. Although Christmas is over, "Jingle All the Way" is another good movie from Arnold Schwarzenegger that involves an interaction with children. Speaking of Keanu Reeves, a good one from him is "Speed", with Sandra Bullock. Is there any chance that you would ever do a reaction video of musicals adapted to movies? I would love to see "Rocky Horror Picture Show" or "Little Shop of Horrors", or two of my all time favorites "Phantom of the Opera" and the most recently released "Wicked". One final note, boys have HOT DOGS 🌭and girls have HAMBURGERS 🍔, according to my 8 year old niece. 🤣
I've seen the movie several times. But I haven't laughed as much about it as I did with you here for a long time. Your laughter is really infectious. Even when you're sad, it's infectious. You really are one of the few movie/series characters who are fun to watch. I am glad to have found your channel.
32:20 You ever have pasta e olio? It's fricking delicious. I used to make it all the time until I realized, nutritionally speaking, I was basically eating garlic bread for every meal. So I started adding lots of vegetables to it as well, to like, fortify it.
We call it "aglio e olio" in Italy (aglio means garlic). Apart from the garlic, chili powder is a classic ingredient too. Some add parsley but personally I don't like it. Also it's so much better when you cook it like you would do with a risotto. Basically you take the pasta out of the boiling water after a couple of minutes and continue cooking it in the pan with all the other ingredients, slowly adding some of the pasta water until it's fully cooked. It's so creamy and delicious, one of my favorite dishes.
@thebaffman4898 Never thought to use chili powder, but I usually add red pepper flakes, and yeah, I like parsley, too. When I add vegetables, asparagus, fresh spinach, or zucchini are my favorites. I never thought to keep cooking it in the sauce. I usually cook the vegetables and oil on low heat as the pasta is boiling, then add about half a cup of pasta water once it's done. Stir the hell out of it to emulsify it, and slowly add pasta. I guess it does a lot of the same thing, but I just rely on carryover heat from the pasta, like if I were doing carbonara. Another favorite 😁. For most Americans, spaghetti begins and ends with meat sauce, which I like too, but there's a whole world of other ways to prepare spaghetti that people are missing out on over here.
I hope that you eventually react to the Batman quadrility from 1989 to 1997. Don't just watch the first half like most reactors. There wouldn't be a Christopher Nolan trilogy without the Joel Schumacher Batman films.

Twins with Arnie and Danny DeVito is funny like this. 'Only their mother can tell them apart'
Stranger danger was so damaging and dangerous to kids.
I know this is a goofy comedy, but it’s actually quite well-written and Arnold gives one of his best performances in it.
fun fact: the kids actually said what there dads did it was unscripted
Your dog / big ferret is so cute. His hair is really cute and his eyes are really expressive.
Miranda, you are SUCH a delight to watch! I totally love your humor and authentic reactions to each movie you review! :)
"masterclass movie of quality acting" and Arnold do not belong together.
He makes Van Damme and Stallone look like master thespians.
Fun movie though.
Movies such as this give me joy time after time. Love the 90s! Happy you enjoyed it this much!
Just noticed that Phoebe's alter ego is Ursula. As in the Buffay twins. Mind blown.
Can't believe I never thought of that.
“NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO BE CONTACTING E.T.‼️‼️‼️” 😂😂😂👏👏👏
Arnold has a wonderful array of movies. True Lies and Predator should be top of your list.
Miranda, your laughter is making this movie even funnier‼️ and I love calling you Miranda since you changed your RUclips name‼️
You gonna love these :
1- Robocop
2- Starship Troopers
3- Total Recall
My wife and I saw this in a theater when it was released. It was such a fun movie and a fun time. You didn't expect to see him in a role like this after his previous movies so that was on top of it being a comedy. The surprise. So well written. So well performed. "Whose your daddy and what does he do" is STILL a common quote among those of us who saw this back then. Of course "It's not a tuma" is timeless. I am so glad you finally saw this movie. It is reminiscent of how fun movies used to be, without special effects and intelligence insulting levels of needing to suspend disbelief. I miss movies like this.
Emma is the star of this movie, she is precious. You can tell she looked so scared when Arnold yelled at her. Such a fun movie.
Emma was awesome. 🤣
I remember seeing this in the theater in 1990, and the first teaser for Terminator 2 was shown with it.
Miranda: "I'm adopting a ferret after this"
Toby: "The hell you are!"
Conan, the Kindergarten Terminator.
"Commando" is a real hoot with one-liners.
Jesus LOL that's way funnier
"Is she really short, or is he really tall?"
Yes.
Twins with Danny Davito is a must
"I wouldn't say anything, but there would be signs" That's a great bit/edit.
You forgot Sinbad
I am from Austria and Arnold is one of my childhood heroes. Love how you enjoy his movie as well :)
5:49 A shotgun with a sniper scope seems very impractical.
I've never seen the person reacting to a movie actually have more dialog than everyone in the movie combined. It's exhausting.
I hope that you eventually react to the Batman quadrility from 1989 to 1997. Don't just watch the first half like most reactors. There wouldn't be a Christopher Nolan trilogy without the Joel Schumacher Batman films.
oh dear jesus ddont make this sweet child watch Arny as Mr. Freeze
or since alot of people seem to be talking about the pricipal being in NCIS ..... G Calleen as Rbin was that great either
What craziness is in the world, this is the best year to be alive
giving a like just for the fall replay ! so many reactors fail to savor the moments
