Pentatonics for your pentatonics!
With all due respect to other bass gurus on this platform, I find your teaching style to be the most compatible with how I learn. You construct these super informative videos full of warmth and patience. It's super effective and inspirational. Thank you for helping me on my bass playing journey and also for being a good person.
Who are some other bass teachers on hwre
Rich: "Cmon now". Me: " I'm with ya brother, just give me a sec"
This shape certainly is a whole new source of licks, BRAVO!
IT SURE IS!!!😃
Rich, I’ve been playing bass for a long time and you always give me a new way of looking at things that I think I know! Your wisdom is greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much, Marc.
@@richbrownbass Thank you!
Man, Richie every lesson valuable... You shouldn't ask😂😂😂
I've been playing bass for just around twenty-five years....with some periods of down time.... And for most of the time I've been playing I've made most of my lines and grooves based off of the three fret spacing.... Never really knowing what any of that meant.... But I've been pretty good at playing by ear through all this time.... I've been watching and practicing your Pentatonic videos for about the last 4 days.... And I've got to tell you that my playing skill has almost doubled just with those few videos....I can't wait to catch up on the rest of your material.....that k your for blessing us
YES. This. This is frickin cool. Rich out here with the freshest free bass lessons in the world 🌎
Thank you for sharing your wisdom and incredible perspective for everyone to absorb, it's always a pleasure learning from you, brother

Thank you Mr. Brown
Excellent as usual. I'll have that all night!
The tone of your bass sounds amazing!
Just one thing to say...NICE!!!!
That will definitely suffice. Thank you!
Wow, this is really interesting. 👍
I find thinking about Bass notes to be simple enough that I don’t rely on shapes like I would on guitar.
But THIS is really really interesting. And it’s definitely a SHAPE that we can think about it in.
Fascinating, unexpected, and really cool sounding.
What a brilliant find! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Soooo😎..... Great melodic ideas. Gonna work on it!
I learned this originally as the koto scale (japanese scale) and then heard thundercat use it a bunch, love your videos!
Thanks for the lesson Sir Rich❤
Rich, what an awesome shape. THE RAMP minor pentatonic. You are the coolest 😎
Thanks, Steven. Much appreciated, brother. 😎
Thanks Mr. Brown!
I got it! Besides the tonic, the 6th is the anchor that turn the progression around towards the tonic...
Thanks Rich something I’ve never seen before 🔥
My pleasure, Maurice. Thank you for watching.
High 5 Rich!
Excellent as always Rich! New world of ideas
Sweet! So clear ... beautifully described!
That is sweet Rich, thank you again for sharing your time with us!
Hey, thanks Rich, I'll try to ramp it up. Peace and love.
Haha! You got this, Philip. Peace & love.
Thank you for all of these invaluable lessons and sharing these shapes. Feels like I'm free from a long time of being "stuck" on the fretboard. Thank you for showing me new paths! Haven't been this excited to study and practice in a long time.
Wonderful as always Rich! This is indeed a fresh new shape for me to dig in to. I will be working it into my playing, and I will think about your tutorial here when I do. Thanks SO much for your efforts, they are very much appreciated!
We have a new box :) "BB Box" now "Brownstone Ramp"! Just like BB King made his own shape. I think Albert King also used the BB shape? Anyway you can tell I am a guitar player😂😂😂 Well done
Thanks Rich, another little gem this lesson. 🙌
Another Great One!!! Thanks.
Good Stuff Rich! Thanks for posting!

Excellent, keep up the good work
What a groovy sound. Thank you!
I enjoy learning new ways of thinking about scales and all the rest. Love it ! Love it! and your HUMOUR !! just the right amount :) ..
Seems though it might be the koto scale (see comment below) and not The Ramp... but I think I like your description better!
🤯Love this!
Rich you are a genius that's really smooth I can do something with that, this is Melvin Brown keep up the good lessons I like that, The Ramp.
Wait...thee Melvin "Mel' Brown?! 🙌🏾
Once again another great lesson!
Very cool!
Great lesson, Rich. Thank you for spicing up my minor pentatonic life!
thank you for this!!
Woooo! i got to go to the shed!!
Very cool, really connects the pentatonic to the ii chord and a dorian sound. Great lesson. Cheers!
I just heard Korn, their lick. The level and simplicity that you explain is awesome!
thank you!
That's cool, I'm gonna play with this. thanks!
Thanks!

Now I know what I’ll be doing for the next six months! ☺️
Thank you for this...what a rut busting lesson
Gawd I love that bass. F-basses for the win! Bummer, as a Canadian I can’t buy one in my city.
Good stuff!
Amazing! in spanish I would say "suena brutal". Thanks for your wisdom master Brown.

So cool. Thanks Rich.
You're very welcome, Robert.
Love the bass
Great video!
Im also a fan of fretless tips and lessons!
Awesomeness, as usual Rich. Wonderful lesson. Thank you.
Thank you, Stephen. I appreciate the kind words.
@@richbrownbass Nice lesson. Do you have any lessons on playing 3 the pentatonics per key the ones with no notes outside of the diatonic
Cool as Mr Brown, I had never thought of creating a minor pentatonic type scale from the Dorian and Phrygian mode. Simple but genius, flavoursome sounds, thanks.
Oh my goodness....we need more like this.💪👏👏👏
Stay tuned, Oliver! More is on the way.
Rich, thank you for this content, I could listen to you talk and play all day man.
That means a lot, Steve. Thank you, brother.
"You know what that is"...the FUNKIEST note in the world! I yelled it before you said it, thank you sir. Intervallic exercises are paramount to unlocking the fretboard and becoming familiar with sounds and utilizing modes to the fullest, instead of just hearing the same scale from a different starting point, etc. They expedite the ability to improvise, it's like unlocking a power in a video game, it's everything...i cant tell you how much I appreciate your lessons and your attitude. God Bless!
Thank you so much, Kevin. You're so right, brother. There's music in those patterns.
🤯🤯🤯🤯 soooo good thanks Rich xx
My pleasure, brother. Thank you for watching.
Blew. My. Mind. ❤️
Niiiiiice.... So simple and so GOOD!
Thank you, my brother. Always means a lot coming from you. ❤️
Yoooooo!!! This is heavy! 💪🏻🤯🤩
Thank you, my brother.
Reinventing pentatonics. Can't wait to try this out.
This minor with major 6 makes me think about Adderley's Autumn Leaves where Guaraldi vamps on a Gm6 with his left hand in the intro which gives a killer (piano) bass line. The ramp is very cool, thanks!
damn man!!! good class!!!
thank you so much!
My pleasure. Thanks for watching, Fernando.
Amazing idea, gonna engrave it in my left hand ✋
Your bass tone. May goodness-
Come on now!!! classic comment by you🎶😎
thank you mr brownstone : )
My pleasure, Bob. Thank you for watching!
Do the Ramp!
Is jazz improv class our prof called it the Japanese pentatonic scale. I found your presentation with the 3 shapes more applicable. Thanks a bunch!
Looks like a penta scale base on the dorian mode !
Yes. I'm gonna work on this.
On which instrument...you beast!? LOL!
Great job overall. Love it.
Hard to follow your fingering sometimes, because you have such a fluid soft touch. It would be helpful if you used an “exaggerated” fingering for demonstration purposes and slow down a little.
Use that as a passing tone run during a III7 to ii* modulation and, with just enough chorus pedal intervention, you got Jaco at those moments he would close his eyes and sink down into better than heroin land. Remember, in Canada, they call it oatside. Therefore, we can call it anything we want. What's it a boat? or What's it, a boat? I still don't know wuhthafc they're on, but it's something and it obviously works for them. Rock on.
Another great lesson. This should add some pizzazz when I need a fill.
I'm really liking this one Rich. Do you know the Coltrane pentatonic scale?
Thank you 😌not complicated and useful. Can't ask for much more.
You're very welcome, Ermo.
Thanks for the info Rich! It feels like a pentatonic based on the phrygian mode, in this case "A" phrygian. But I haven't sorted out why it works. I guess since the relative major is Bb, you can play a variation of the phrygian off that "A", and get those color tones, instead of the very inside sounding Locrian (relating it back to Bb)
This is exactly how I’m thinking of this shape, Frank. You totally nailed it.
Say WHAAAA?? Wish I knew this stuff like some guys (like You) DO.. Oh, my misspent youth. Keep it UP!
That 6th tho....the last note I ever thought to play. Exotic and sexy

How is the light so smooth in your setup?! The neck looks so shimmering.
