"There are no useless exercises on this channel. None! Zero! I refuse." Absolute gold as usual, Rich!
Thank you, my brother. ❤️
Not only are your exercises make a point to build critical skills but your calm reassuring and positive demeanor is such a motivator. Thank you
That means a lot. Thank you very much.
Everything in this channel is vital
As a Bassist for YEARS, I can Truthfully say, you're Way Underrated!! Much Respect!! Straight to the Point!!
I am a professional player/teacher and I already know what you teach. What you are giving me is a new way of looking at the same information. Man that is so powerful! Thanks, and keep it up! I'll be watching and learning.
Thank you
Am from Jamaica and these exercises are doing wonders brother. Am a BROWN too maybe that's the hidden reasonn😂😂
Playing reggae, Latin and African music we learn arpeggios right away and this is an awesome way to explore those tonalities that lie beyond 1-3-5
"This might be a very short video ;)" end up 17 mins, luv it!
My idea of short. LOL! I'm trying to get these things down by about 5 or so minutes, but there's always so much to cover. 🤷🏾♂️
Thank you very much Rich!,... It has been a very interesting and revealing Class! GOD BLESS YOU Alberto Pedrosa
I'd never seen a lesson so simple and disrupting at the same time. It may be a little challenging to get used to this pattern, but it's really easy to understand, so you're halfway there. It's no go knowing shapes or something if you don't really understand what you're doing with your instrument! And what about this gentleman's powerful, deep and smooth voice? I bet he can sing as good as his bass playing. He seems to master his voice as he speaks. Thanks a lot, my brother! Here's some love from Brazil!
"... but it will keep you busy for the rest of your life." Awesome delivery! Nailed it. Your knowledge, wisdom, and humor is priceless. Thanks for helping all of us out here.
I am so happy to have these exercises. The music is wonderful, and you have a world-class sense of humor. Very motivating!
Rich, I could watch and learn these exercises all day! Your teaching style is smooth as butter!
Peace and love to you too! :)
I love everything about this
This is simplicity itself. Absolutely brilliant.
There i was... just playing through this exercise, and there they were! all the diatonic chords i have been practicing time and time again...... Your lessons are fantastic and filling many many gaps in my (woeful) musical knowledge. thank you.
This makes me very happy. Thank you, very much.
Amazing bro. I'm a guitarist and I started playing bass too, a couple of months ago.
I have the advantage of fingering, but I never had the theory or the technique of the bass player.
thanks for the arpeggios
You have as much to offer in your approach as you do in content
This is the highest quality of lessons it can get
I say this as a professional music teacher
Thanks for inspiring
OK, This is insane!!! It's a very simple concept, BUT this concept gives you such facility and movement throughout almost any scale ( I personally consider modes and scales the same thing/ different versions of each other. As in Ionian = 1, Dorian = 1a. and so on) This lesson is a blessing!!!!! Thank you Rich Brown!!!!!
I'm so glad, Russel. Thanks as always for tuning in.
ILove your chanel and your personnality ! Thanks from france
Thank you for sharing
The only vídeo I've seen in this Channel and I'm already in love, Just the little time practicing this and i don't even think to creating chords anymore, amazing work friend!! Really apreciate
This makes me very happy, Pedro. Thank you, brother.
This is a fantastic dexterity excersize as much as being a fun arpeggio excersize. Thank you, Rich, for opening more doors to helping improve my bass playing :)
My pleasure, Ken!
THANK YOU! this must be one of the best exercises I've found in the arpeggio department! 🙌🏻
Oh man! Thank you so much, Ignacio. I appreciate the kind words.
I really appreciate this brother's spirit, enthusiasm and delivery!...thank you very much!!!😎
My pleasure, brother Melvin. Thanks for tuning in.
Thanks! Someday I will join. Your videos are soooo helpful!
Thank YOU! Your generous donation is already plenty. I really appreciate it, and thanks in advance for joining. That also helps a lot.
Rich, The simplicity of this exercise is also the beauty of it. Excellent job as always.
You are such a great teacher bc you go slow. I could tell that you are passionate musician n a teacher. Thank you! I could do this fast if I practice everyday. Awesome!
I've been playing bass a long time and coming up with new drills that don't feel stale can be hard. What a great concept you've shown here, nice instruction too! This really does open up a ton of new ideas to work with, I only wish I had thought of it or seen it earlier LOL. Subscribed.
Thanks so much, David. I truly appreciate the kind words, and the subscription!
I'd never thought of this before & what I like is how the exercise restarts on alternate rh fingers. I changed over to rh 'economy' picking a couple of years ago (going up-alternate, comimg down-raking) & it caused me countless issues due to my rh middle finger being longer etc.
So I constantly devise exercises to address this & am improving! The 'issues' are the equivelent of rubbing your stomach while patting your head...seemingly impossible to execute. Yet they're not 😊 👍
PS Great to see on Talking Bass the other day!
Thanks, as always, Andrew. I have such a hard time keeping these videos short. I wanted to speak more about rh technique (and possibly address those issues). Maybe in another video.
@@richbrownbass Anything regarding rh would be useful...it's almost disregarded compared to the lh!
Your videos are good 😊 👍
This is so great! Guess what my students are going to be doing when they get back this semester.
Wow. Am I ever happy I discovered this channel! What an amazing pedagogue. Cheers from Canada
Nice Arpeggio exercise, thanks for this lesson, it was very helpful..
To me, simple things are often the most elegant. A good friend of mine said it thus, If something has two parts, each part must be right or it will not work. If there are 43 parts, if one piece is not quite perfect, you can jiggle the next 42 pieces and make it all work out in the end. Thanks again Rich.
Thanks Rich. I am drummer and piano and mess with guitar a bit. And even I got this on my first try. ;)
This would be perfect for going through the cycles of fifths!
Yes, this video could have been 6 min. But then we would have missed the expansion possibilities. So don't worry about a short video. A teacher shows the lesson. A master says "now check this out" and reveals their thinking. Your enthusiasm of possibilities is inspiring to me as a student.
Priceless.
That means a lot. Thank you so much.
I like this cat..good teacher
I've been learning the melodic minor modes this weekend. Combining those with your exercise makes a lot of sense.
It does. It's such a great sound. One cool melodic minor exercise you could try is playing the 'odds' up to the 11th, then coming down the scale to the root. Playing this on all the modes in order makes for a beautiful etude.
@@richbrownbass That's tonight's exercises taken care of then. Thanks again!
I have to tell you Rich ,,your presentation is by far the easiest to following that I have seen. Friendly , knowledgeable ,clear and precise. Well done my man!
That means a lot. Thank you very much.
Rich you are a master! Master in playing, master in teaching and a master in making video! I Love the channel, love the lessons, love your voice! Thanks from Italy
Your all guidances r really great n usefull....
I'm absolutely loving this exercise and your channel. I struggle to stay engaged with scales but arpeggios are where the music is at! That minor even to odds sequence is chefs kiss. Donation sent. Thank you and keep it up Mr. Brown!
Thank you so much, Jenni! I do truly appreciate the support, and your very kind words.
Excellent lesson! Once I've got it under my fingers, I will apply this to all the modes. Definitely useful for a warm up ritual! Thanks for sharing!
This is one of my favourite things to play. You're gonna love it!
Hey I figured out this odds and evens thing on my own, trying to build up four note chords and more. Interesting a teacher actually used it, too.
I use it to warm up before playing my bass. Its great. I like to add one more notę to some modes so my alternats plucking is always the same, ex. IO Ionian mode
All I can say is Thank You!
Your channel is a blessing for all bassists who want to improve their playing. Thank you for these wonderful videos.
Another winner! I had never thought of doing this.
Donation made keep up the excellent work.
Your videos never disappoint
That's awesome, Dan. I can't thank you enough, my brother.
Thanks for making it so simple
Great teacher keep it going thanks
Thank you, Valencia! 🙏🏾
Thankyou so much I started out with a bass and than purchased a ubass ukulele because it was lighter to use and I’m using your method it’s working out better than the actual ubass ukulele lesson I was paying for😊
Great exercise!
Humbling to see how confused I got with evens and odds.
Thank you, Janis. It can be totally confusing. But you know how it is, once you got it, you GOT it. You got this!
You are a great teacher.
Wow! Thank you so much. 😁
@@richbrownbass Next time you are in Van City I will be there! 🤎
Clear, concise lesson.
