    I spent 12 months doing the c major scale from each of c's on a 4 string bass from each of the 3 fingering positions . Doing every interval plus triads ascending, descending and alternating, one position a week. The teacher called it 7 tone. It was a great journey and what Rich is teaching is great stuff. Now the leap to using this muscle memory in good bass lines and solos. Love the channel Rich and most importantly your incredibly kind attitude towards teaching people. Would love to connect for private lessons. Be well everyone!

    I have been taught by Ariane Cap using her Theory Book and in the Cohort of hers. She gives us the same exercises as you, but one thing that I'll be adding is from the major to the minor and back again. That's a great idea.
    What I've also been practising in going through the descending Fourths.
    I can see why you aren't taking more students (reading from the comments below). You've got a great way of presenting material.

      Thank you so much, Natalie. Ariane is a great player, and a highly knowledgeable educator. I like watching her lessons.
      Fourths on a minor is another great exercise. I actually use this pattern quite a bit when I solo.
      Thank you very much for the kind words, and thank you for watching.

    Thanks for the video, Rich! This is a wake-up call for me to practice these triads and sequences. One thing you didn't mention is your use of the low F# in the minor scale. I recognize that as a shift to harmonic minor, which is another scale that can be sequenced. No one should ever run out of practice material, right? I think you're spot on in that playing and really hearing how the triads and sequences sound creates a memory that can be drawn upon when you're actually performing.

    • @richbrownbass
      @richbrownbass  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for the kind words. I didn't mention the F# because in this exercise I only see it as the major 7th of G. But you could definitely do these sequences on the harmonic and melodic minor (and major) scales. I get a lot of requests for pdfs and tabs of these exercises. I'll probably make them available at some point, but a musician with a good ear is an asset to any ensemble.

      Hi Mohamed. I should probably do an in-depth video on walking. In a previous video I talked a bit about using triads and triad inversions to play walking bass lines on a 2-5-1 progression. Check this out and let me know if it helps you.
