42:25 this is so sweet cause this whole playthrough made me realize just how much Dan's personality was defined by this game and the fact that his friendship with Arin resembles A LOT with Sam and Max's. Dan found his Max.
I wonder if it was an intentional reference at 32:08 when Dan said "excuse me Sam, I mean Max." That was a recurring joke in the comics at least, that the characters would briefly confuse their own names.
@@Retro_Red I only know of one example "I kid you not, max" "I love it when you say I kid you not, max, I mean sam". besides that, I think it's only in the comics
For anyone who doesn't know. Sam and Max were added to the Telltale lineup for a while. With three seasons of point and click games for people to enjoy. Which means there are 18 chapters with three over arching plot lines for people to enjoy.

Those are really good too, they really capture the same appeal as this. They even have Jesse James' severed hand still - it's on display in their office!
I played the second one of those. It was pretty good, even without the context of what came in the first game. I bought it on Amazon without knowing there was a game before it, so I was relatively confused, but I knew the Sam and Max games were the oddball types of point and click games, so I just went along with the ride and enjoyed myself. 😅
@@benanderson89 I play them for the puzzles and general comedy. Voice acting is good, but not necessary for me. There are days I miss just having to read the text and supply the voices in my mind. A bit of context for the part about John Muir: Yes, he was a real guy; he was born in 1838 in Scotland, and died in 1914 in California. He was a famed naturalist, who is also known as, "John of the Mountains" and "Father of the National Parks." He was also a famed author, botanist, zoologist, and an early advocate for conservationism (conservationism being the idea that wilderness areas and wildlife should be preserved). He was especially fond of the Sierra Nevada region, and one of his greatest achievements was the Yosemite National Park. Specifically, he wrote two landmark books, entitled "The Treasures of the Yosemite", and "Features of the Proposed Yosemite National Park". These books were instrumental in convincing both the American public and the US government to preserve Yosemite, which was formalized in 1890, with the founding of Yosemite National Park. Today, John Muir is known for his aforementioned efforts, along with many more; his name is especially well-known in modern-day conservationist circles. Furthermore, on April 21, 2013, Scotland made "John Muir Day" an official holiday; this date is particularly relevant, as it marked the 175th Anniversary of his birth. Now, with all that being said, why does _Conroy Bumpus_ of all people have a little shrine to John Muir? Who knows :P

If it's not too late because this was all recorded already (though it applies to all ScummVM games), you can control text speed through the options UI. Loving this series, and love the longer-format stuff. This, Gabriel Knight, and other point & click games work well for the format, and for Arin & Dan's comedy. It also doesn't hurt that I have very fond memories of all these games, as I played most of them when they came out. Edit: Also your copy from 2017 is a REALLY old version of ScummVM, so if you encounter any bugs, consider upgrading as it's still regularly worked on.
I don't know who did the subtitles but MY GOD, they had me rolling more than the actual jokes especially the line at 53:11 Anyone who is deaf will be on a totally different adventure to everyone else.
the "maintenance droid" in Conroy's estate was apparently referenced when the TF2 devs were working on the unfinished space map. never knew it was a Sam and Max thing, but it makes sense
While I love that you're doing Sam and Max for Long Play Sundays, this episode has last episode's subtitles on it (idk if I'm doing anything wrong, and auto subtitles usually gets it wrong), idk if they'll ever see it but I just wanted to try to let them know (or other people who need subtitles) lol.
Holy shit thank you for the repeating sounds thing. I also can't hear a sentence that also happens to be part of a common phrase/song/quote without finishing the line - I'll get genuinely bothered if I don't complete it
Heeeey, they talked about Santa Cruz! The mystery spot is pretty interesting. It's a nice way to spend some time in the redwoods and the house there is pretty interesting.
Was anyone else just waiting from the second they left the Vortex the first time for Dan to notice he forgot to pick up the sasquatch hair? Had a big laugh after his sequence-breaking with the twine ball ring for him to just leave the obvious 'take me' item.

Something I find kinda funny is in Missouri where I am there's a rock called the frog rock that they painted like a frog. It doesn't really look like a frog though, more like a turtle to me. But yeah there's the fun fact of the day

Love this series. I have so many fond memories of this game, and how absolutely impossible it was back in the day. Though, with a Lucas Arts game you could never have a fail state. As opposed to the true nightmare of Sierra Games letting you progress hours upon hours before realizing you are totally fucked.

I love when Dan and Arin get to really flex their voice acting muscles!!!
Subtitles seem to be mixed up with the last Sam & Max video. Glad you're continuing though!
Arin's voice for Max is so spot on, it's awesome :D
I don't know who did the subtitles but MY GOD, they had me rolling more than the actual jokes especially the line at 53:11
Anyone who is deaf will be on a totally different adventure to everyone else.
They seem to have put the subtitles for the first part on this part by accident, yeah.
the "maintenance droid" in Conroy's estate was apparently referenced when the TF2 devs were working on the unfinished space map. never knew it was a Sam and Max thing, but it makes sense
I love the way Dan says Missouri. It's so different from every way i've heard it said, and it's so refreshing
I just like seeing Dan happy. I love these games. Please keep 90’s click and points coming
Was anyone else just waiting from the second they left the Vortex the first time for Dan to notice he forgot to pick up the sasquatch hair? Had a big laugh after his sequence-breaking with the twine ball ring for him to just leave the obvious 'take me' item.
YESSSSS MORE SAM AND MAX
AND MORE 90'S POINT AND CLICKS!
Dan: "i love their friendship."
DAN THEY'RE GAY
The thumbnail has the episode number!!! This is fucking incredible, thanks to whoever making the thumbnails, I promise we appreciate you!
I hate having to wait all weak, but that makes the episode all the more special :)
So glad it’s 1 hour game grumps day to watch while I’m hungover
Nevermind, it was alcohol poisoning
Can’t say I’m a fan of long series being mostly a back-burner thing for a majority of one-off episodes. But if that’s the new era of game grumps, then fair enough. As long as they enjoy their work ^^
Something I find kinda funny is in Missouri where I am there's a rock called the frog rock that they painted like a frog. It doesn't really look like a frog though, more like a turtle to me. But yeah there's the fun fact of the day
I was so looking forward to this episode, thanks grumps!
Long series Sundays with the Grumps equals MY KINDA SUNDAYS! Max is so freaking hilarious! 🤣
Does anybody else find it appropriate than Dan is voicing Sam and Arin is Max? So much of their personality traits line up too well with their characters. XD
I love these long series so much! Please keep doing them and feel free to do more than just Sunday. Maybe Sunday and Wednesday doing two long series? Thanks guys. You're the best!
Woo-hoo! Love this series!! 🤘
Hey thanks for the episode number in the thumbnail! Love to see it
Love this series.
I have so many fond memories of this game, and how absolutely impossible it was back in the day.
Though, with a Lucas Arts game you could never have a fail state. As opposed to the true nightmare of Sierra Games letting you progress hours upon hours before realizing you are totally fucked.
The grumps not knowing about John Muir despite living in LA breaks my little Californian heart
Love the point and click Sunday's
The subtitles are just the subtitles from the first episode.
10/10, very funny!
Sam and Max: quite literally a married couple
Dan: “i love their friendship :)”
And they were roommates
I know this is canonized by the creator, but does it every actually manifest in any of the Sam and Max media beyond what the creator says?
@@DemonFireRainI mean, Sam does fantasise about proposing to Max in The Devil's Playhouse
@@DemonFireRain they are pretty flirtatious in every media they show up in. I'm guessing bc of the times they couldn't really come out and say it in game
An episode with a number? Now THIS I can get behind!
I love this retro stuff Dan.
I was wondering, for SO LONG, where that quaking was coming from. I at first thought it was a censor sound, but then realized it was from the scene somehow because it kept happening. And I didn't see any visual queues so I thought it WAS edited and I was crazy. When the boys commented on it I was so glad it was part of the game. And when Dan pointed out the umbrella stand I was like "OH THANK -GOD-!!"
H-how did they not notice the Macrohard - Microsoft joke?
38:47 very subtle "i know what i like (in your wardrobe)" reference by Dan :)
