I watched a "gamers react to gloom hands", because it was 3am and y'know how it be, and hearing Dan's PUT ON YOUR LITTLE HAT was delightful, everyone else was miserable but Dan managed to make it fun despite being known as a big scaredy cat
I'm surprised that he only died 95 times across 70 45 minute plus episodes.
Especially considering that one episode where he died to the same guy repeatedly.

To be honest, Arin kinda dies in chunks. He can go entire episodes without dying, and then he tries a challenge that he's ill-equipped for and will die several times in a row, or just walk off a platform and die a silly death a couple times in a row.
Thats because the game is easy

I love how Arin didn’t rage in this game, but actually was giggling harder with each dumb death.

Cause he likes these kinds of free form sandbox games.
If it was a linear game like Skyward Sword, his deaths would be caused by him refusing to do what the game wants him to.
68 deaths from combat, 16 deaths from fall damage, he unalived himself six times, and died from the environment alone five times. Shoutout to Tulin's two crits and finisher at 15:16

To be fair unlike in botw even when you find the great fairy you have to go to elden to start the quest with your the traveling band so you she’ll actually talk to you. Idk if they ever even found that quest
i was like 200 hours in before i even started upgrading mine, there was just so much else to do!!
Still haven't upgraded my armor and I fight Silver Lionel no problem
Waited until episode 56 of 70 to do the Great Fairy quests.
Not to mention the stamina wheel vs the dinky little hearts he has

I like how cinematic the death is at 16:24. You have an establishing theme that the grumps are in an alien world, where they have no idea what's safe and dangerous. What's harmless and malicious. Then, once Arin "Egoraptor" Hanson strikes at the demonic looking bokoblin, the sparks create enough light to reveal an unforeseen bomb flower. But by then it's too late. The motion lines from the swing of his sword clearly indicate where he'll be striking. The fool was too focused on Earthly ideas like instinctual combat that he did not realize the very environment in the depths can, quite literally, blow up in his face at any moment. 10/10
The take away from all of this is Arin's greatest enemies are:
Spears
Robots
Robots with Spears
Bombs
Gravity
Queen Gibdo's charge attack
Queen Gibdo's laser attack
And most dangerous of all, Himself.
And that one black moblin that he went after for like half an episode lol
Spears being a consistent issue was unsurprising and fully appreciated 😂

Monstrously genius
To be fair to Arin forgetting what button opens the glider, I constantly mix up buttons that I've been pressing for the entire game. Especially when I'm under pressure. I will see an enemy suddenly pop up out of nowhere, try to run away, and just give a little jump before dying horribly, so I can more than believe that he forgets which button is the glider when he's trying to do it half-a-second before he hits the ground.
I often mixed up the dive and glider buttons too so I get what he's going through lol
I literally had to switch my run and jump buttons in the settings bc I kept mixing them up so bad 😭😭
"The control you have while travelling around this world is amazing" Arin dies 2 seconds later
Arin has the survival instinct of the stationary Bokoblin with a bow aiming at you while standing next to 5 TNT barrels
There's a rule in this game that if you are at full health, you cannot die from a single shot and will instead live with a single quarter left
Now notice how many times Arin charges headfirst into danger with just one quarter of a heart missing, exempting him from this rule

I'm watching a video of every death in TotK and for some reason during the longer battles before a death, I seem to forget that and I'm like "oh, oh, maybe he'll win this time!"

Basically the reason I listened to the series as a podcast, aside from compilations like this.
They were super funny throughout the series and I loved all the jokes, but Arin couldn’t play to save his life. He was such a petty contrarian, refusing to get hearts or upgrade his armor, blitzing through main stuff because he felt the need to hurry but then happily spending 3 episodes trying to climb the same cliff, missing tons of stuff, refusing to cook meals, going against every suggestion or bit of advice, etc etc etc. - WHO COULD HAVE GUESSED?
Nobody’s here for Arin’s gameplay. At least he didn’t rage and blame the game for his dumb but funny deaths.

Whatever amount of time the devs spent on the death rag-doll physics/animation was time well spent, I don't think I've ever laughed harder while dying in a game
The anticipation, waiting for them to encounter the gloom hands for the first time built the moment up for so long and it was absolutely worth it. I don't understand how it took so long for them to encounter one
Oh my god that first death. My absolute favorite, is when Arin fucks up or does something stupid, and Dan just gives him that disappointed mother tone and just goes "...Arin." It's my absolute favorite hahaha
Arin died more times in the Wind Temple than I did in my entire playthrough 💀
When at 16:43 Dan says "i think you can survive this", Arin could, in fact survive that. If he deployed his emergency paraglider.

My favorite was definitely the time bomb club, because the moment he first fused them together, it just became a waiting game, knowing he'd eventually blow himself up.
I'm pretty sure I died a single digit amount of times in my entire run of TotK. Arin hitting almost 3 digits is truly impressive.
