People nowadays are conditioned to expect big explosions , action sequences etc. The good thing about M Night Shyamalan is his work is slow and subtle. You either like it or hate it. Sometimes he fails and she time its really good. He gives the actors time to act. I think that this falls into the subtle good ones.
So nice to see a reactor tap so strongly into the *emotional* pull of this movie. So many people over analyze the plot of this movie and criticize it on the basis of pure scientific speculation, missing the story for what it is. At its heart, it’s about a family that’s been through trauma being isolated and under siege and finding strength through each other; and *that* aspect of the story is told excellently. Also, the balance of tension, humor and heart is near perfect. The dinner scene is a great example. There’s an overwhelming tension over everything because of what is coming, then seeing the family fracture and come back together just in this short scene, punctuated with a laugh when Graham pulls in Merril… then back to horror as the baby monitor lights up. This movie manages the change between these emotions so expertly. It’s a mix of feelings that very few movies or TV shows can manage without ruining the tone. Even Shyamalan himself struggles with it later in his career. That’s why this continues to be one of my favorite horror movie, regardless of what people speculate aliens would or wouldn’t do in situations that were never actually elaborated on. The specific mix of emotions in this movie is simply very hard to find elsewhere.

Graham's an Episcopalian priest (that's the American branch of the Church of England for all you Europeans out there). And unlike their Catholic counterparts, Episcopalian priests are free to marry and have children. Orthodox priests can marry as well, but it's more likely he's Episcopalian.
Protestant ministers who are married with children can become Catholic priests. In order to do that first they must convert to the Catholic faith then attend a Catholic seminary for a few years. If his wife dies after he's ordained as a Catholic priest he can't remarry. Because when an unmarried man is ordained to the priesthood they must be celibate.
In my country, the majority of the population is Orthodox. Fun fact: an Orthodox priest has to get married, actually. They go to school for priests, some of them get a master's as well. But, until they get married, they can't get their own parish.
Thank you, Mary. I love this film. 14 years ago I became a dad and my little boy has asthma. This film hits harder since he was born. Your sensitivities and empathy with this film made me appreciate this film more.
I saw this film in theaters as a kid, and mostly came away with "oooh, creepy aliens". But rewatching it over the years as I've gotten older, I get it. And I appreciate it so much. It's more about family and faith, and you don't even have to be religious to understand. The light humor and quirkiness of the kids is perfect, too.
I feel very similar, having only watched this once, as a teenager, about two decades ago. It's interesting how you realize you look at things with totally different eyes and a different focus later in life. While Night Shyamalan movies recieved a lot of criticism during the following years (often rightfully so I guess) I want to say this was definitely still one of his good ones, even if he might have never gotten back right to where he was with The Sixth Sense. I actually hadn't remembered that many details besides the general plot (and the images of the crop fields and of them wearing their little tinfoil hats :D). So nice to (partly) rewatch it with Mary now, and I have to agree, besides all the emotional aspects about family and belief, the most important takeaway is: They found the cutest possible girl to perfectly play the little sister role :)
“Everybody needs to calm down, eat some fruit or something “ I still use that when warranted during conversations, my family just looks at me like I’m having a stroke 😂
@@DecSteele ... I too love using quirky little catchphrases from movies that "if you know, you know". One of my favorites to use is from Greater Tuna (about the eccentric characters of Tuna, Texas… the second-smallest town in Texas (which is fictional), which started out as regional theater production in Texas, where it became a phenomenon, then was filmed as an HBO special, and eventually ended up on Broadway, where one of the two co-leads was nominated for a Tony Award. It has so many great small-town, quirky-original catchphrases, and one of my favorites is "you wouldn't be so hateful if you had some food in your stomach"! ... 😆
My mom described the moment he talked about his children being born as the most bittersweet painful moment in the film. She said I can't tell you how many times I've dreamed about you, and you're infinitely better than anything I could've imagined. That fear in this film is what every mother and father feels, and that's leaving their children without them.
Merill swung his bat every time the ball was coming towards him, but he didn't actually hit the ball every time. Which is known as a strike. And he struck out the most, which is why he has the "minor league strikeout record".
I think the part that is missing for non-US-Americans is that the batter doesn't need to swing the bat at the ball IF that ball either doesn't go through the strike zone or hits the batter (called a ball); BUT if he does so anyway it is a strike just like it was if it was a valid pitch and he simply missed the ball entirely; if the pitcher causes too many balls/the batter isn't baited into strikes he can get a walk: a free progression to first base; IIRC 4 but isn't that one of those rules that vary between rulebooks? if the batter causes three strikes he is out; this is the strikeout; it also means that no other player gets to progress to the next base at all so you can cause 2 strikes whenever you're at the bat but at least then you should either hit that ball or let it go if it meets wither of those two criteria; so the record for strikes might actually be held by someone who also gets the most points IF they make the most of a pitch after two strikes; but the record for strikeouts obviously means you make the least points but Merill simply got baited into each and every strike because "it didn't feel right"
A great part of this movie is when he is hitting the alien/demon with the bat, he puts the bat right up to the camera and then completely swings too low.
You MUST watch Arrival!! It is one of my all-time favorite sci-fi/aliens movie. It is somewhat like Signs in that yes, it has aliens but it isn't truly about them. Signs is about a man losing his faith and the impact on his family. I won't tell you what Arrival is about but bring tissues to that one too!
War of the Worlds: YES. Steven Spielberg. Tom Cruise. But be warned! Signs is intense but has a lot of humor. War of the Worlds is INTENSE. It’s Spielberg processing 9/11 through cinema and it’s about children in DANGER! Definitely be brace yourself before watching. Oh, and ARRIVAL is amazing but bring tissues and sugar.
I remember watching this in the theatre- the alien reveal scene at the birthday party made everyone scream 😂 One of the best movie theatre experiences I have.
Yup. That seems like the most likely perspective. We still MIGHT find electronic evidence of advanced civilizations -- but it will be evidence from their past, with no way to know conditions on their planet NOW.
Even though "The Sixth Sense" was his biggest box-office hit a lot of people think this is his best film. Probably because it was a lost father who re-discovered his faith and family.
Thank you, Mary! 🫗 All hail writer/director M. Night Shyamalan. I hope you'll get around to Shyamalan's THE VILLAGE (2004), as well. It's one of my favorites.
Some might disagree with this, but if you're going to see War of the Worlds, take a look at the original 1953 version, starring Gene Barry and Ann Robinson. Granted, the special visual effects are nowhere near as impressive as the 2005 version with Tom Cruise, but they were good enough to win an Academy Award in that category for 1953. And in my humble opinion, although it's period dated, it is still the best version made so far of the classic H. G. Wells novel.
Yes, 1953 was more about a war between worlds with mentions of other nations fighting the invaders. And the Battle scene was fantastic! 2005 was more Tom Cruise attempts to fix family issues while fleeing from aliens.
Hi Mary, Did you know that M. Night Shyamalan played Ray Reddy? He also played a doctor in his movie, The Sixth Sense. I hope your voice is feeling better soon. It’s always a pleasure watching your reactions, you have such a way about you. For Halloween, you need to watch the fun-scary Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein from 1948. It’s an old fashioned black and white movie you’ll love. It’s held up so amazingly well.
Watch the older 1953 "War of the Worlds" movie before the Tom Cruise version. The older one is more in line with the H.G. Wells novel. That novel was acted out on the radio by Orsen Wells in 1938. Because people tuned in after the announcement that it was a dramatic live action version of the novel, people thought it was for real and it caused a panic.
I'd recommend watching the 1953 film first and at a later time watch thde other one. The effects are better in the newer one but the story is better in the original.
Regarding the silly Aliens Allergic to Water thing. There is a fan theory the aliens were actually 'demons'. The little girl, compared to an angel, creates blessed water when she pours it. The Father is also fighting demons. The movie is about faith, so not a hard sci-fi movie. Voting for War of Worlds 1953.
I enjoyed that and thought it was way better than most people did. Then again I was paying attention and picked up on the twist pretty early in the film. Most didn't and claimed it came out of nowhere.
It got a bad rep because it was marketed as a horror film, when it really wasn't. It has deep meaning though and is so beautifully phenomenal. Folks just got their undies all twisted when the horror they expected didn't deliver, and gave it bad reviews.
When she started talking about Arrival in my head I was thinking The Arrival with Charlie Sheen. And I was like yeah those aliens weren't too crazy, and they're backwards legs were cool, plus had like a x-files feel, With all the conspiracies..... lol, I haven't thought about that movie in years I kind of want to watch It now.
In baseball sometimes the pitcher will intentionally throw out balls that are not meant to be hit. They are too far off from the ideal hitting area. They are called "balls" (not the best name, I know). If you swing at a ball pitch and miss it becomes a strike... Bad for you. If you do not swing at a ball, you automatically get to walk to 1st base after 4 balls. Good for you.
I sympathise with you on the swearing adjustment. Usually using a lot of profanities, many years ago when I worked in a school (1st to 7th graders) I had to think every time before opening my mouth. Then later on I worked with adult pupils, so I could relax a bit. But that was language education (for immigrants), so I still wanted to set a good example. Fortunately for me they wanted to learn some of that too, so I was often asked how to swear "correctly" in their new language.
Definitely watch all of the Tom Cruise scifi movies, including "War of the Worlds," "Oblivion," "Edge of Tomorrow," and "Minority Report." ("Vanilla Sky" is optional, but the other four are great.) Have a drink or a snack with you for "War of the Worlds." 👍 As for life on other planets, it appears to be a moot issue. Math suggests there might be one planet with life in every galaxy, but it's impossible to travel from one galaxy to another, so we'll never meet up.
The mother's memory popping into his head during this time and the little girl leaving water all over the house and him having asthma the mom died so they could all live through this invasion
I love this movie so much. It's an honest look at what happens when someone loses their faith. The story is more about that than the aliens, and it works so well.
War of the Worlds: If it was up to me, you'd watch the 1953 adaptation. It still is a better version than the 2005 Tom Cruse effects spectacle. Even Spielberg had troubles making that script work well. And the 2005 one feels more like alien horror than alien terror, if you get what I mean. If you want second and third opinions: Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb rates the old one higher. They were both nominated for three Oscars, but the 1953 movie actually won one. (Even though that mostly depends on business politics and what the competition was.) But you do what feels right, or what most viewers here want.
Yes, 1953 was more about a war between worlds with mentions of other nations fighting the invaders. And the Battle scene was fantastic! 2005 was more Tom Cruise attempts to fix family issues while fleeing from aliens.
If you've seen 'Scary Movie 3' then it's impossible to watch 'Signs' without laughing your socks off. SM3 really illustrates how ridiculous this movie is. 'Can I just have 15 minutes with the lower half?' lololololololol!
The thing about m night, is that he makes these movies and bills them as real scary movies...lol... but they are really great drama with intense scenes... his stories are so good. Great reaction.
Graham lost his faith after his wife died -- he's a denomination whose priests can marry (Episcopalian, probably). The only reason that's important is that he returns to being a priest not because his wife died but because he got his faith back. I love this movie.
If you like this one, then you should watch all of M. Night's films they'er worth the watch. His films stand out from the rest. You won't regret it, I promise.😊
Very astute commentary! This is my favorite M. Night Shamalyan film because the way the timeline moves backwards before we can see it all. Each time you watch, you see another little detail! Mel Gibson fantastic as usual (I will watch anything he is either in or directs) and the kids, too, who both have made names for themselves.
Fantastic reaction, Mary! Your reaction to this movie is the best one I've seen. I really like this movie but others who have watched it don't seem to fully understand the message, the feelings it's trying to convey. You've encapsulated what (I believe) makes this movie so well worth watching. Also, yes to watching The War of the Worlds movie. The 2005 Tom Cruise version is good. There's also a earlier classic version, 1953's War of the Worlds as well, which is excellent in it's own right. I hope you feel better.
Have you reviewed Contact? Deals with extraterrestrials. Really smart movie. Based on the novel by Carl Sagan. Stars Jodie Foster. Edit: yes you have!!
As a diabetic, I feel like it would be good to get your thoughts on Steel Magnolias and how far treatment of diabetics has come. So I'm suggesting Steel Magnolias for a reaction if you haven't seen it x
Ray's explanation of how he wasn't going to be first in the line to heaven (since the killed the reverend's wife) wasn't him speaking selfishly. He was expressing regret and extreme sorrow indirectly. I think that was maybe just lost in translation...subtle conversation intonations or whatever. Great reactions though. So many people in the US thought this movie was ridiculous (since aliens could travel across the universe, but needed signs in corn to navigate...and since water hurt them and they chose a planet made of 3/4 water...lol....but I think aliens wouldn't think like we do, because they're like...aliens...so it works for me. I mean, they couldn't get through pantry doors either. It isn't like the writer didn't think about it). But the underlying story and acting are amazing. Amazing balance of action and emotion, I thought. So glad you could really appreciate it, even if it was difficult. Thanks! :) There are no other movies like this, but ARRIVAL IS COMPLETELY AMAZING BUT VERY DIFFERENT, wonderfully directed by Dennis Villeneuve (Dune, Blade Runner 2049). You can save War of the Worlds for popcorn and scary aliens night. BUT, "War of the Worlds" is crazy for another reason. In 1938, in the US, when the radio play (written like a newscast) was broadcast by Orson Wells on Mercury Theater, many people believed it was real (even though they made it clear it wasn't) and started panicking as if it were real in the US. Worth looking up the real life story on Wikipedia.
I agree that it is his best! Everyone focuses on Sixth Sense which was really good but Signs is just a masterpiece of storytelling. Also really enjoyed Unbreakable but I love superhero movies! :)
OMG, Mary. I love this movie but even I (a horror buff) got freaked out by it. 😂 Oh, and a lot of people like to criticize the intelligence of the “aliens” but there’s a great theory that they’re actually demons. It’s the characters that make the assumption. But if you interpret it as Holy Water then you can explain away the nitpicks. Either way, I think it’s a really fun movie that was masterfully shot, performed, and paced. The music is an all timer.
There is a science youtuber, RoanokeGaming, who has a different take on it, basically the idea is that the alien cells are only extremely sensitive to water when they are using, or have recently used, their extreme chameleon abilities.
Great reaction Mary! I had no idea you're diabetic as well. I'm only on metformin but before I started taking better care of it I had a diabetic stroke and acid keatosis nearly lost my sight i was blind for a few months but my vision finally corrected so definitely stay on top of it! Also definitely yes to arrival and war of the planets. both super emotional films.
Just a fantastic film with a really engaging script, thanks for sharing this with us Mary. So much more than a well-crafted sci-fi movie, it’s about the human condition…the heart. Was so much better the second watch for me. (You asked about “War of the Worlds”, I say yes…perhaps start with the original. I’d also do “Arrival”, “Passenger”, “Oblivion”…& one of the greatest science fiction movies ever, “Metropolis”.)
I feel as though there MUST be something out there. With how much room Space and this Universe has, all the planets discovered and not, we CANNOT be alone (or that's just depressing man). Also yes, Please watch War of the Worlds.
Here in México back on the 90's (maybe early 2000's) there was some super famous alien/creatures videos, I remember they show em on night talk shows all the time. It was fun to grown up during that times
Breaking Bad and the X Files can be the next things to watch after Strangers things but the X-Files has 11 seasons and two movies in between so that will take you a long time so for that series you might want to watch more episodes a week and .ay e even two in one video.
Your's is the best reaction I've seen to this movie. Sorry it tore you up so badly, though. Two thumbs up for Spielberg's WAR OF THE WORLDS, however. And as always here are my two recommendations for movies that you really should try. Oliver Stone's JFK and Stephen Spielberg's AMISTAD. They are both historical biopics made in the '90s and in my opinion the two most compelling trial movies ever made.
It's right there in the scene where his wife, mother of his children, is passing away and gives him those last requests. Tell Merrill to swing away, indeed.
The boy here is played by actor Rory Culkin - brother of the "Home Alone" kid. The priest was an Episcopalian priest, and they may marry. This religion is an offshoot of the Anglican religion.
War of the Worlds is worth watching. Very thrilling and suspenseful -- and lots of family emotion, too. It's also fun to watch, keeping in mind that the story has an remarkable historical connection in the US -- the famous radio hoax by Orson Welles.
Yes, Mary, “The War of the Worlds” with Tom Cruise is a good sci-fi movie and I would love to see you react to it. It is actually a remake of the 1957 movie “The War of the Worlds” starring Gene Barry. Both are excellent and I would suggest that you check out both of them so you can compare and contrast the original and the modern Tom Cruise version.
My youngest son (27 now) still gets totally creeped out if you play that "alien" sound clicking noise thing. This is a VERY underrated movie. From the day when M. Night made good films (i.e., before Avatar The Last Airbender)
You're talking about watching this movie for Halloween. Well, since it's too late, I got an alien movie you can watch that month: "Fire in the Sky" (1993)
Blessed holy water splashed on demons during exorcisms creates the same effect as the water being spilled on the aliens in this movie...coincidence or are there any coincidences?? :)
War of the Worlds was a novel by H.G.Wells, published in the late 1800s. The first movie adaption was in 1953, and that film is considered a classic. Of course today, most people think of the Tom Cruise version from 2005. Both versions changed the story quite a bit.
Just my opinion, I think you should watch the 1953 "The War of the Worlds" and understand how it all started. Copied from Wikipedia: "The War of the Worlds" was a Halloween episode of the radio series The Mercury Theatre on the Air directed and narrated by Orson Welles as an adaptation of H. G. Wells's novel The War of the Worlds (1898) that was performed and broadcast live at 8 pm ET on October 30, 1938, over the CBS Radio Network. The episode is famous for inciting panic by convincing some members of the listening audience that a Martian invasion was taking place. The movie with Tom Cruise is a rough remake of the original. I just thought you should understand when Merrill (in this movie) mentions "The War of the Worlds" it's NOT the Tom Cruise movie...it's the 1953 movie.
I absolutely believe that there is something else out there. Not necessarily convinced that they are flying around earth but to think about how vast the universe is its impossible for there not to be life somewhere.
This movie is a twist on War of the Worlds. The 2005 War of the Worlds movie is also a twist on the original story, as is Independence Day. There is also a 1953 movie of War of the Worlds, impressive effects for it's day. The original book by H.G. Wells doesn't have much in the way of main characters. Before any WotW movies were made, there was a WotW radio drama by Orson Welles. There are stories that people listening to the radio broadcast thought it was real and were so freaked out people ended their own lives, but this may be an urban legend.
Not that I loved War of the 🌎 with Cruise, but the history alone is worth watching. Check into the original radio drama with Orson Wells. One of those big moments in history
@27:55 War of the Worlds would be a great reaction Mary. I think you would love it. This and "The Sixth Sense" are two of my favorite films. M. Knight Shyamalan is a genius.

Merill swung his bat every time the ball was coming towards him, but he didn't actually hit the ball every time. Which is known as a strike. And he struck out the most, which is why he has the "minor league strikeout record".
I think the part that is missing for non-US-Americans is that the batter doesn't need to swing the bat at the ball IF that ball either doesn't go through the strike zone or hits the batter (called a ball); BUT if he does so anyway it is a strike just like it was if it was a valid pitch and he simply missed the ball entirely;
if the pitcher causes too many balls/the batter isn't baited into strikes he can get a walk: a free progression to first base; IIRC 4 but isn't that one of those rules that vary between rulebooks?
if the batter causes three strikes he is out; this is the strikeout; it also means that no other player gets to progress to the next base at all
so you can cause 2 strikes whenever you're at the bat but at least then you should either hit that ball or let it go if it meets wither of those two criteria; so the record for strikes might actually be held by someone who also gets the most points IF they make the most of a pitch after two strikes; but the record for strikeouts obviously means you make the least points
but Merill simply got baited into each and every strike because "it didn't feel right"
@@michaelklaus great explanation 👍
A great part of this movie is when he is hitting the alien/demon with the bat, he puts the bat right up to the camera and then completely swings too low.
30:42 M. Night Shyamalan has said in interviews that these two baby stories are the actual stories about the birth of his own children. So beautiful.
She already saw arrival
War of the Worlds: YES. Steven Spielberg. Tom Cruise. But be warned! Signs is intense but has a lot of humor. War of the Worlds is INTENSE. It’s Spielberg processing 9/11 through cinema and it’s about children in DANGER! Definitely be brace yourself before watching. Oh, and ARRIVAL is amazing but bring tissues and sugar.
She already saw arrival
@@moviesandcheesecake4128 Thank you for telling me. I’ve been jumping around in my viewing so I wasn’t aware. I bet she in tears.
@@solidsnake58 yes, she did cry her ass off
My favorite Shyamalan movie. That dinner table scene gets me every time.
I remember watching this in the theatre- the alien reveal scene at the birthday party made everyone scream 😂 One of the best movie theatre experiences I have.
I screamed and my popcorn flew.
I am 98% convinced that there is life on other planets. And I am 98% sure we will never know about it, or them about us.
bang on 98% for both, what are the chances of that
@@eKko0 about a 98% chance that they would be the same 😉
Before the expansion of the universe we had a star wars like galaxy. Now we are to far apart. Long time ago far far away
Yup. That seems like the most likely perspective. We still MIGHT find electronic evidence of advanced civilizations -- but it will be evidence from their past, with no way to know conditions on their planet NOW.
98% you may be right.
RUclips "Dark Forest Theory"
Even though "The Sixth Sense" was his biggest box-office hit a lot of people think this is his best film. Probably because it was a lost father who re-discovered his faith and family.
Love Signs, but Unbreakable is the best!
That's a tough one. I believe that Sixth Sense is a perfect film and Signs has a few minor flaws, but they're both amazing!
The Village is my personal fave. Wonderful meaning in that film.
Thank you, Mary! 🫗 All hail writer/director M. Night Shyamalan. I hope you'll get around to Shyamalan's THE VILLAGE (2004), as well. It's one of my favorites.
M.knight also the actor that played Ray in this movie
My fave. I really think she'd enjoy it!
I agree.
Yes, 1953 was more about a war between worlds with mentions of other nations fighting the invaders. And the Battle scene was fantastic! 2005 was more Tom Cruise attempts to fix family issues while fleeing from aliens.
After Stranger Things and the Sopranos you should watch the X Files. “The Truth is out there”
Yes the X Files
I agree, nobody ever reacts to the X-Files and it was such a good show.
@@Michael-id9bw she would hard stop after the Fluke Man 😂
Oh that would be amazing. I’ve never seen anyone react to X Files. I go back and rewatch them every few years.
Oh that would be fun!
August 22nd is also Layne Staley's Birthday ❤

The female Scandinavian Olympian is my favorite line in this film.
that jump scare at 23:57 is one of the best in movie history.
every time the whole family all touches they get a clear signal on the baby monitor.
I know it's a sad movie, I cried during it as well, but it never dawned on me how hard certain scenes would hit a new mom..!
The Tom Cruise movie War of the Worlds came after Signs, but the novel is from 1898(!). A very influential radio play was aired 1938.
They were probably referring to the War of the Worlds 1953 movie since the Tom Cruise version came after this movie.
Or the historical sensation that was the 1938 Radio Program
@@Hope2BHappy I heard that some people shot at a water tower thinking it was a tripod. Don't know if that is true, though it makes a good story.
@@Hope2BHappy Or the 1897 serialized novella.
I like M Night Shyamalan’s The Village, too.
I love this movie and feel in love with Bryce Dallas Howard as Ivy Walker.
Definitely watch all of the Tom Cruise scifi movies, including "War of the Worlds," "Oblivion," "Edge of Tomorrow," and "Minority Report." ("Vanilla Sky" is optional, but the other four are great.)
Have a drink or a snack with you for "War of the Worlds." 👍 As for life on other planets, it appears to be a moot issue. Math suggests there might be one planet with life in every galaxy, but it's impossible to travel from one galaxy to another, so we'll never meet up.
I loved your smart takes and emotional investment in this. I hit sub.
Your accent is lovely.
The mother's memory popping into his head during this time and the little girl leaving water all over the house and him having asthma the mom died so they could all live through this invasion

They've mastered interstellar space travel, but they can't detect that our planet is 75% caustic to them.
unless they aren't aliens but demons...
Just because I can drive a car doesn't mean i'll always drive somewhere safe. The aliens were probably just desperate.
I heard they can't open doors
John Williams does the music for Harry Potter and Star Wars
Even this young Abigail Breslin was amazing. You saw her in Zombieland and I think Little Miss Sunshine
Such an underrated movie.
I'd like to see War of the Worlds!
Yes please!
I love this movie so much. It's an honest look at what happens when someone loses their faith. The story is more about that than the aliens, and it works so well.
War of the Worlds:
If it was up to me, you'd watch the 1953 adaptation.
(Even though that mostly depends on business politics and what the competition was.)
But you do what feels right, or what most viewers here want.
'Can I just have 15 minutes with the lower half?'
lololololololol!
I second this!!!
Thanks! :)
There are no other movies like this, but ARRIVAL IS COMPLETELY AMAZING BUT VERY DIFFERENT, wonderfully directed by Dennis Villeneuve (Dune, Blade Runner 2049).
I have a hard time taking the car accident scene seriously after seeing Scary Movie 3. "She broke her wiener?" :)
The little girl that played Bo is also in Zombieland. It took me forever to figure out where I knew her from when I watched it.
Awesome reaction of my favorite M. Night Shyamalan movie!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I agree that it is his best! Everyone focuses on Sixth Sense which was really good but Signs is just a masterpiece of storytelling. Also really enjoyed Unbreakable but I love superhero movies! :)
BRAVO!!!! GREAT REACTION!!! Wow.... I've seen many many times and, Mary, you got me caught up in your emotions. =8-D
Very good reaction, you react very naturally without any effort or pretense. The movie Arrival is a very good movie, entertaining and unexpected.
I WISH this movie was called Scandinavian Women Looking for Cigarettes
22:50 Ray the Vet is M Night the director
Definitely yes to war of the worlds, it's a great movie 🎥
Mary, I think you missed this. Look closely directly to the left of that metal thing in the center of the roof. 6:07

"Tom, I'll need a ride home."

The hardest line in any film 😂😂
😂😂😂
Your's is the best reaction I've seen to this movie. Sorry it tore you up so badly, though.
Two thumbs up for Spielberg's WAR OF THE WORLDS, however.
And as always here are my two recommendations for movies that you really should try.
Oliver Stone's JFK and
Stephen Spielberg's AMISTAD.
They are both historical biopics made in the '90s and in my opinion the two most compelling trial movies ever made.
It's right there in the scene where his wife, mother of his children, is passing away and gives him those last requests. Tell Merrill to swing away, indeed.
Sweet little Mary. Started watching you when you were just a girl, and now you are a Mom. Still a sweet heart.
Well, since it's too late, I got an alien movie you can watch that month:
"Fire in the Sky" (1993)
Blessed holy water splashed on demons during exorcisms creates the same effect as the water being spilled on the aliens in this movie...coincidence or are there any coincidences?? :)
War of the Worlds was a novel by H.G.Wells, published in the late 1800s. The first movie adaption was in 1953, and that film is considered a classic. Of course today, most people think of the Tom Cruise version from 2005. Both versions changed the story quite a bit.
Originally set in 1800's, pus a lot of hack movie versions.
That Battle scene in the 1953 version was awesome!!!
I absolutely believe that there is something else out there. Not necessarily convinced that they are flying around earth but to think about how vast the universe is its impossible for there not to be life somewhere.
One of the best reactions I've seen to this movie......Good stuff👍
Love this movie and wish more folks reacted to it. Love that you’re watching this!
Yes! You should definitely watch War of the Worlds! Id love to see your reaction to it
2:3:20 "Oh by the way, there's an extraterrestrial locked in my pantry." Pretty sure this should have been the first thing to mention!
Have you seen the 1953 version?
Get well Mary. People can wait :)
@27:55 War of the Worlds would be a great reaction Mary. I think you would love it. This and "The Sixth Sense" are two of my favorite films. M. Knight Shyamalan is a genius.
Signs has been a childhood favorite of mine! This really spooked me as a kid. Love that you reviewed it and also the mention of War of The Worlds that’s a must do!! Also wanted to say it’s been about 4 years now I’ve been watching you, I moved to a new place and while I did temporary and new work I always watched you during my lunch breaks ! You feel like an old friend now and to see you grow as well and your new family is so amazing but thank you for your content and feeling like a familiar friend ! 😊
