I picked up this shoe on sale and have been putting some miles in it. Today, I did 11 miles with 3,337 ft of gain, and on the descent, the insole of the shoe slid back until it was behind my heel.

      @ConversationalPace  Месяц назад

That's annoying when that happens. The last Nike Kiger did that to me, except the insole slid towards the forefoot. Some super glue at the forefoot and heel kept the insole nice and locked down 👍

Awesome review. I watch trail running reviews on RUclips when I want to shut my brain off lol. You guys are both entertaining and insightful. Having two opinions is better than one and if you both agree on something, its more reassuring 👍🏼

Much appreciated! Even if we don't agree on something, it's reassuring to one type of foot at least 😅

Great in-depth review! I had high hopes for the Pulsar Trail Pro 2 but seems that there are still some refinements to be made especially for ultras. Speaking of outsole, I use to think that 4mm-5mm lugs was perfect in a trail shoe but the adidas TERREX Speed Ultra changed my mind (amazing grip on dry trails for only 2.5mm lugs!). I think it comes down to the lug pattern and rubber material plus anticipated terrane. The Pulsar and Sense shoes are probably great in hard packed single track trails and crushed gravel trails/roads. I like that Salomon has updated the midsole with more modern foams. Great discussion!

I agree, for dry trails, it's so much more about the rubber compound and how it interacts with the ground, more so than the actual lug depth. I am really digging Salomon's new midsole foams. On slightly more cruiser trails, it is such a fun shoe. Thanks for watching and giving your input!

If you put the trail and trail pro side by side the Pulsar trail has softer foam above the tpu plate and deeper lugs which would make it my choice for most runs. I’m with Fin, the fit was pretty spot on in this shoe. My first two runs in the Trail Pro were marathon + distances with no issues. However, I didn’t feel like the plate made it a faster than average shoe. It’s not a super shoe, but is a solid choice for long runs over dirt and mud.

Thanks for your input! So would you be pretty confident taking the Pulsar Trail Pro 2 on some pretty long runs or races?

The insole issue you spoke of happened to me mid-race at Quest for the Crest 50k on the Black Mountain Crest Trail in NC in v1 of the shoe. Literally almost killed me bombing down Mitchell, ha. Major bummer to hear it hasn't been fixed BUT sounds like an easy solve would be either gluing it down or replacing the insole altogether. Great shoe otherwise!

Yeah huge bummer it didn't get fixed in the 2nd gen Pulsar Trail Pro 2. I did notice that the insole of my Salomon Ultraglide 2 is now glued down, so they half got the memo. haha

Also a bit late to the party. I got the first Ciele versions (even sexier). Used them for like 40km in a 100k in semi - technical terrain in Kosciuszko (Aus). Have got about 370 miles on them. Used them on technical terrain in Tasmania a lot and less technical in the Blue Mts. Never had any issues, have always felt kind of light but firm and good for going fast and kind of being agile on technical stuff. 🤷‍♀️ would buy again for sure.

You and I (and Salomon athlete Marianne Hogan) are in rare company of runners who really enjoy this shoe😅. Thanks for watching and providing your feedback on how they worked for you!

Love your review guys! Thank you. In your experience what is the fastest trail shoe you’ve worn? Looking for a fast 50km shoe. Moderately technical terrain.

I'm not sure I can say what the fastest shoe I have worn, but the fastest I have run a 50k in a trail shoe was in the New Balance Summit Unknown at the Way Too Cool 50k, which was super muddy and rainy that year, so it added some additional technical elements to an ordinarily non-technical course.

The mesh gaiter thing around the ankle on the S/Lab Ultras really irritated by Achilles, so I have been hesitant to try another pair with that feature. I find it interesting that for me the Pulsar Trail (non-pro) is my favorite shoe for technical terrain, setting some PRs on technical downhill segments at Smith Rocks here in Central Oregon. Handles the ice, and muck excellently. Curious how the Pro 2 and Pulsar Trails compare? They also have the Pulsar S/Lab and Pulsar S/Lab soft ground I wonder how different these Pulsar shoes really are? Sounds like this one isn't as good for technical terrain. Really appreciate the footage clips you've been incorporating into the videos.

I haven't gotten to personally try the Pulsar Trail, but what I am hearing is that might be the better buy than the Pro for more technical terrain. S/lab Pulsar and SG will be a bit better on tech-y terrain than the pro because they are lower to the ground. You also feel a lot more of the ground requiring much more nimble running. The S/lab shoes are also s/lab fit which is quite a bit narrower and snug.

A bit late to the party, but I recently got a pair of these for about $100 USD; loving them so far! I seem to be one of the chosen few with no apparent heel / Achilles issues in them; for once, having weird shaped feet is paying off!

And you got them for a great deal too! Once I got about 50 miles in them, any heel slippage/rubbing issues went away for me, and I was also one of the few that really enjoyed running in this shoe. Thanks for watching!

I have 400 k in the pulsar trail and I like the upper, still feel very fast in it and enjoy every run, no issues. To me it sounds like the better deal compared to the pro.. getting the sence ride 5 for days I want more grip, the outsole of the sence ride looks better for technical terrain.

So far it really seems like the Pulsar Trail is a better buy than the Pro. Thanks for your input and thanks for watching!

Is the pulsar trail toebox similarly wide like the pro? Or is the pro best for someone looking for the widest toe box?

Great suggestion! I see a giant shoe HOF spreadsheet in our future. We are also thinking of doing maybe a quarterly recap of our favorite shoes to date for the year or something along those lines

A local store had the s/lab pulsar didn’t like as much as my old sense 7 s/lab. Might pick it up anyways the soft ground but I guess I’m just missing that it was low firm and fast low dropped 4 mm I think and it was good to 50 K you could push it to the 50 mile and that’s the shoe I really would like to bring back but but like I said, I might pick this up anyways, it just wasn’t the same. It was more firm through the the gay but less ground field.

Would the pulsar trail be better on more technical trails. I have cruel jewel in Georgia this year. I have sense pro 4. They run long, is it wise to size down on Salomon

This particular trail Pro 2 isn't great on technical terrain. It's a bit narrow underfoot, and combined with the higher stack and stiffer feel, it becomes a bit tippy. The non pro version of this shoe has proven to be great on more technical trails. Another one to consider is the Salomon Thundercross, which we did a full review on as well 👍
