Thanks for the review. You should also try the Salomon S/Lab Ultra 3 if you'd like something to bomb down technical stuff. It's snug at the heel and midfoot but has plenty of space for the toes to splay unlike other Salomons.
I will check those out!
@@swiftcolin Yeah it came out the same time as the original Pulsar and was eclipsed by the Pulsar in popularity but it's still a good alternative for runners who prefer a less snug forefoot.
Well done on the 1k subscribers. Excellent review. We were looking for some trail shoes and this is really helpful.
Have subbed your channel. We're currently training for a road 10k but doing plenty of off road running as we've explained in a recent Vlog.
Thank you so much, I’ll check out the vlog!
My absolute favorite shoes love it 💯
I was impressed with these!
Solid review! I have issues with the heel lock down so It's not going to be a technical shoe for me. Heel cup is really flimsy. Otherwise it's really nice. I like the ride and midsole a lot.
Completely agree! Heel lockdown isn’t the best, but I was really impressed with this midsole. I’ve got the regular Pulsar Trail coming in with a more traditional upper, I’m hoping I’m going to like those better.
Maybe change for traditional laces, sometimes this works at least slightly better. Done with my Sense Ride 3 and I prefer it like that, even though it's a bit off to buy shoes and work them out more or less. You can even try to create the runners knot then with using the last eyelet for the loop also, needs thin laces of course. I hate these quick laces as I never get the perfect foothold, best is still traditional with an additional eyelet...although in theory quick laces seem to be practical, but as putting the rest in the lace pockets takes longer than lacing anyway it's a gimmick in my opinion
Yes I find it annoying stuffing them in and digging them out of the lace garage too.
@@swiftcolin I wouldn't mind if the heel lock and lacing was perfect, but at least in my case after several pairs of Salomon it never is...maybe my feet, lots of people like them...
I doubt they’ll ever change it now!
Big fan of the salomon gear. Nice review!
Thx!!
Nice review. How would you compare to the Salomon ultra glide (stability/Dynamic/confortable)?
Ultra glides we’re a little more stable for sure, but I find the Pulsar trail pro to be way more comfortable and dynamic. The midsole of the ultra glide seemed to bottom out quickly, and I haven’t felt that as much in the pulsar trail pro.
Imho, heel pocket, sock like collar and the lacing system make this shoe great! I also like how efficient and comflrtable they feel on buffed out trails.
Still dont get why they dont make foot shaped toe boxes.
Yes I was really impressed with this shoe, I’m currently running in the regular Pulsar Trail and I like them even more!
@@swiftcolin does pulsar trail have more firm midsole than the pro?
It does feel a little more firm yes, but still feels good on the downhills, and the upper is more secure and feels better on technical terrain.
@@swiftcolin luckily I already have a few pairs of great shoes for "technical" trails and off-trail like Salomon s/lab cross and VJ Bold X 😊
I don't think shoes as wide and tall as pulsar trail /pro could never be very good for really gnarly stuff. Even Sense Ride 4 is too wide and tall for difficult sloping trails.
@@swiftcolincan You compare PT to PTP after longer period of time ? BTW great review :)
Nice review ! How would you compare them to the North Face Vectiv Enduris apart from much lighter ?
Less structured upper, and less pronounced rocker in the Salomon, but otherwise there is a lot of similarities! Both have great cushion, enough protection under foot, similar traction and lug depth too.
@@swiftcolin Thank you ! I might give the Salomon Pulsar Trail a go, I'm running the Vectiv Infinite (after enjoying the Enduris) and for the more rolling stuff it's brilliant...
I’m definitely interested in trying the Pulsar Trail with the more traditional upper, I think I’d probably like those more.
Would you recommend these to a new trail runner who wants the best fit money could buy for some races/training up to those races?
I don’t think so, I would recommend trying these on first, I don’t think the fit will work for everyone.
@@swiftcolin I appreciate the honesty dude 🤙🏽
Do you have any insight between Hoka tecton x and Salomon pulsar trail pro? I am trying to decide between them....
I run on dirt, large rock surface, concrete ascend and descend...
I still haven’t ran in the Tecton X, I would guess it has a bit more structured fit than the Pulsar Trail Pro, but I can’t say for sure.
@@swiftcolin sweet, thanks 👍 I have narrow feet as well, Salomon should fit well.
Just thought I would leave an update, I got the Hoka Tecton X 👍 it's quite good, good structure, but a little firm maybe because of the plate, but very good.
Good to hear!!
May i know what kind of inner sole is used in this shoe. Is it a soft spongy ortholite insole or like a tpu soft rubber like the ones used in sonic accerelate 4.
It’s a thin soft insole, definitely not an ortholite
@@swiftcolin does it soak up water like an ortholite insole would?
I found these were fairly breathable in hot weather.
