I completely understand why you want to take some time off to participate in the game jam! I'm mostly here for Portal64, but I'll definitely watch your video on the entry. Also, it's probably a good thing to take some breaks once in a while to avoid burning out on Portal64.
Congrats on winning the N64 Brew Jam again this year!!! I got a chance to check out Styx and really enjoyed it. The toon shading and visuals were amazing and that jtn191 soundtrack was spectacular as always.
Thanks for the update. I'm happy to wait. You get to do the things you love and you'll definitely end up learning something too. And then we're lucky enough to get a cool spooky game to play for halloween :)
the toon shading setup is legit :-D love it. Also eagerly awaiting more portal N64, because that is simply insane, and I love it so dang much. Your channel here has really resparked my interest in that console, keep up the inspiring work man :-)
Wow! It looks really cool. I didn't know people were doing games for the N64 until I came across with Portal 64 so I'll be keeping an eye on the jam to see what kind of things people make. Keep it up!
Good luck! I love seeing all these recent new N64 games come out. I remember when the N64 was considered to be impossible to code new software for and there were no developer toolkits publicly available. Just romhacks that were mostly texture mods. I am just glad you are continuing to work on Portal64. Most developers would get tired and give up around this point. I don't care how long it takes personally.
I'd really love to see some collaboration between this guy and @kazeemanuar wether it's a video or some joint project, these are obvisily some very talented people with this system. It's really amazing to see what hobbiests are able to do with old technology
Glad to see the game is coming together even more! One funny thing to add would be a settings menu, and inside would be an option for dual controller gameplay, or even mouse support. Also a player model and bug fixes would be exemplary.
Just remember: Portal 64 is a nice project, but don't make it feel like it's your lifeline. As long as you're enjoying yourself, keep at it. Love the progress. :>
Woah, you were on the Telocation team? Sweet, that was my favourite game of the Jam! I also know someone else on the team (Cobra, he's on the Dreamcast homebrew discord sometimes)
I hope it works better than the last update. Testing it with Mupen64+ FZ you would have a black screen until Glados counted down from three, then you could only see through the portal. If you walked into the portal everything goes black again. Still, pretty neat concept.
Do whatever you feel up to. I don't come for portal 64 content, I come for interesting content that inspires me to work on my own projects. Keep up the amazing work whatever it is on (just no doomsday machine on Nintendo 64 pls, we still need the world)
Im good with whatever you want to do. I find N64 development super interesting and hope to be able to do it myself someday. I have been learning C# with unity and if im not mistaken you can code N64 in C. I dont really know much about N64 development but id love to learn eventually.
The skeleton shares a color pallet with your walls. Please give him a red scarf or something. Oh, and I watched a guy running Scrat's Nutty Adventure, and Scrat's only attack against bosses is throwing 2% HP pebbles. So what if this skeleton guy got lightning hands?
Seeing your work in this field is genuinely impressive, have you thought about making a tutorial on how to make an N64 game? I've been trying reading all the "Awesome N64 Development" pages, and watching all the tutorials, but I can't get any of the software to work. Do you NEED a flashcart to work on an N64 game or am I doing something wrong?
The toon shading looks so good wow! Colors are great and the skeleton is cute i love it
You are officially a programmer for N64. Any project you want to do, will be amazing to see.
I think this effort for Demakes is amazing these days.
Any updates on portal 64 are great, this is a interesting project and ill be following it all the way through!
Also the n64 homebrew game jam is interesting, seeing anything new on the n64 always is!
I completely understand why you want to take some time off to participate in the game jam! I'm mostly here for Portal64, but I'll definitely watch your video on the entry. Also, it's probably a good thing to take some breaks once in a while to avoid burning out on Portal64.
Hype:
portal rtx: no
Portal 64: yes, fuck yeeeaaas
Dang those shadows and toon shading are sick keep it up man.
Great proof of concept all around, glad to see there's still some really smart folks messing with n64 programming.
take your time. strike while the creativity iron is hot. no need to tunnel vision on portal on our behalf. do what you need to do for your own self
Congrats on winning the N64 Brew Jam again this year!!!
I got a chance to check out Styx and really enjoyed it. The toon shading and visuals were amazing and that jtn191 soundtrack was spectacular as always.
I love the art style! I'm so excited to see how it turns out! And Portal 64 is worth the wait. Plus, we get to see this new awesome project!
i was JUST watching the old vids when you uploaded, whwahhkdfskj
That looks awesome! Good luck on the jam, I can't wait to see the final result!
the Guy is puttig global illuminations and non backed lightnig on N64, mad props
Take all of the time that you need! The most important thing is that you’re working on stuff that you enjoy.
Thanks for the update. I'm happy to wait. You get to do the things you love and you'll definitely end up learning something too. And then we're lucky enough to get a cool spooky game to play for halloween :)
Sounds like an awesome project for the game jam, an N64 game with real time lighting effects sounds epic.
It is INCREDIBLY impressive the mechanical wizardry you work on the 64's hardware!
the toon shading setup is legit :-D love it. Also eagerly awaiting more portal N64, because that is simply insane, and I love it so dang much. Your channel here has really resparked my interest in that console, keep up the inspiring work man :-)

Well for sure you’re going to have a visually incredible and unique game in this years entry! 👍🏼
Good luck! I love seeing all these recent new N64 games come out. I remember when the N64 was considered to be impossible to code new software for and there were no developer toolkits publicly available. Just romhacks that were mostly texture mods.

This looks so cool!! Can’t wait to see the finished game! The shader and shadows absolutely blow my mind!
I'm so glad that your working on the game jam. I'm so excited to see what you do.
Absolutely worth it. This looks awsome, I hope you finish it in time. I love seeing passionate people
Glad to see the game is coming together even more! One funny thing to add would be a settings menu, and inside would be an option for dual controller gameplay, or even mouse support. Also a player model and bug fixes would be exemplary.
looks aweseome, I hope to play that very soon, looks nice!
Keep living the dream James. Keep living the dream. Thank you for the content so I can experience this stuff 2nd hand.
This looks awesome as hell! I'm here for whatever games you make, Portal or not.
I'll stick with ya no matter what you work on. I'll definitely check your stuff out on my everdrive.
Looking great! Good luck on the contest!
You deserve more attention for this! People like you are doing way more for Valves franchises then Valve themselves.
Dude, this is just flat out cool. Follow your passions and your creativity will reward your efforts!
2:48 no way thats run on the n64, wow. amazing work honestly
This is all really cool! Best of luck with the game jam.
The good thing is that everything's open source, so it's not a huge loss.
Do what you need to do, I look forward to the future of Homebrew development.
This is sick! Can’t wait to see the final progress of your game for the contest, love the visuals!
Amazing! Gonna look into your other works, they look interesting!
Aperture science wasn't made in a day.
Looking forward to seeing that game, the toon shaders look prem.
Just remember: Portal 64 is a nice project, but don't make it feel like it's your lifeline. As long as you're enjoying yourself, keep at it. Love the progress. :>
Do what you love, we'll still be here.
This looks awesome. You should do a Devlog of this game as well if at all possible.
All gamedev updates are interesting to me!
It will be cool to see more updates on Portal64 but I will also like to see more about your other N64 projects, it is so cool!
Good luck with your jam! Hope it tastes good. Oh, and your game looks pretty cool, I guess...
2:19 Best video game title I have seen
Hey man, your content is great and you deserve some time off! Gotta be careful of burn out
ayo its okay !
looks very interesting - i'd love to watch the videos about this game too :)
Impressed as hell by your work my man
Take as much time as you need
Woah, you were on the Telocation team? Sweet, that was my favourite game of the Jam! I also know someone else on the team (Cobra, he's on the Dreamcast homebrew discord sometimes)
Man, you deserve more love. This is amazing!
I love this. Lemme tell you running portal on N64 means portal can sorta run on anything in a way. Will definently try this on my wii.
This is actually super cute and I love it!
Thats amazing i dont even see why apologize when you still are making magic whith that old console sdk xo
It looks awesome!! Everybody loves a video game skeleton
This is amazing. You are amazing. I want to work with you.
please add texture baked in ambient occlusion. it would make the game look so much better at 0 performance cost
I hope it works better than the last update. Testing it with Mupen64+ FZ you would have a black screen until Glados counted down from three, then you could only see through the portal. If you walked into the portal everything goes black again. Still, pretty neat concept.

wow, really cool games you got there
good luck on the jam!
Sad your taking a break hope you won’t be to long
Reminds me of Costume Quest!
Neat! That looks like a fun one!
Good stuff man. You're awesome.

wow! 7:43PM 10/18
how do you hold the controller for portal 64
standart?
2d?
FPS?
also will you enable dual controller mode for dual sticks?
very good
Can we get updates on the game jam stuff? Maybe stock up on footage of the process and release it after the game jam is over?
Im good with whatever you want to do. I find N64 development super interesting and hope to be able to do it myself someday.
I have been learning C# with unity and if im not mistaken you can code N64 in C. I dont really know much about N64 development but id love to learn eventually.

We need to know more about your, clearly Magnum Opus simply entitled - Game. ;)
That wasn't my game. That was somebody else's entry.
Awesome Bro
Would you be able to port this to quest 2? I think there's been other successful projects taking n64 games to VR
Wow! Can we run all those homebrew games with an Everdrive? ... Nevermind. I just heard your answer. 😅
Siiiiiiiii
How can I add the navigation bar you are using?
Bals
Ok
@@oldveryveryoldmanfromthe1900s Goofy
Is there way to get physical carts of these games? Other than an sd card cart?
I did do some telocation carts. I may do another production run sometime in the future if there is interest.
is that in hight rez mode ?
Are procedurally generated test chambers a possibility? That way you don't have to build them, leave it for the game.
where's that video game entry??
How dare you have a life outside this one project that none is paying you to work on??
:)
.
when are you going to fix the issue with the portal gun's first person model?
Please change the controls for Portal 64... Defaut config is horrible.
