They read to me like people who were almost a couple but the accident regarding Melinoë's arm prevented it from happening. The feelings remained though
Yeah my read was that him not being whole might have somehow served as a barrier preventing them from getting together? His later dialogue seems to allude to an inferiority complex from being Daedalus' son, it would make sense if that expanded into not feeling good enough for the should-be princess of his should-be-afterlife who's also a literal goddess. And Mel seems pretty blunt when it comes to interest in people - her later nectar dialogues with Arachne, the flirting with Nemesis in the pools, etc. - so I could definitely see it being a case of: They both know they have feelings for each other and don't try to deny it, but he doesn't feel worthy of acting on it as he is; not just a shade, but a somehow incomplete one at that. Mel tries to help with that directly and suffers the consequences of it with her arm, and Icarus is left feeling even worse about the situation because he knows her feelings for him drove her to that. He leaves for what he sees as her own good, and eventually starts learning to fix his own problems, starting with making his own wings. If this does turn into a romance I can defintiely see it becoming a case of Icarus insisting he's trying to keep Mel safe by keeping his distance and her having to get it through his head that he can't decide that for her, she can choose if he's worth the risk, and she has if he still returns her feelings. It would be a nice callback to the lessons of Achilles' and Patrocolus' storyline in Hades too
@@BartlebyScrivener-oz6mk Very ironic indeed. And on top of that, he basically had to watch his crush make his same mistakes for his own sake - Mel flew too close to the sun in ignoring Hecate's warnings to try and make him whole again, and she's paying for it forever with her arm. At least with his original death, Icarus could say the consequences of were limited to himself - he died, but its not like he did any damage on the way down. But now with Mel, she'll be paying a literal eternal price for trying to make up for his mistakes in life. Its no wonder why he was so determined to grow on his own.
Liked that even Hecate hints at not having any grudges and still having some fondness toward Icarus despite the incident with Melinoe's left arm. She knows how Melinoe is and gently reminds her student
I dont think they were lovers but rather friends who fancied each other I think she tried to make him whole again but it went wrong and he blames himself and keeps a clear distance between them both because of it
They definitely were once a thing but after that incident which seemed to have had lasting effects on both, they each felt that they were at fault for what they did and becoming lovers would simply remind them too much of that or potentialy complicate things, so rather they remain very close friends, they might be close enough to be each others wing man (get it?) to support each other wherever they decide to go, each now being free to do as they may.
@@madnessends2477 Not all shades are the same I suppose, as we've seen. Perhaps Meli wanted to give Icarus another chance at a sort of life (like Hecate with Oddyseus), considering how it ended for him. Spell went bad and she lost her arm.
Wait....they implied that the spooky hand off Meli came about because she tried to.....turn shade back into human? ....Oh my god? Full metal alchemist reference??
My concern is that its a god's arm that was sacrificed, though Melinoe has more or less fully recovered, an unintentional curse might have been placed on Icarus which has yet to show its repercussions. Normal shades can reconstitute with enough time if they are "slain" but Icarus's situation may be a lot more problematic, thank the fates aren't weaving at the moment because his predicament is certainly problematic at best, to be neither dead nor alive nor mortal or immortal while having parts of a god's arm make up your corporeality. Chaos would certainly be amused to learn of his state
You know, considering Icarus is more-humanlike shade (exp: Achilles, Odysseus), we could consider her arm was taken in "fair exchange". Either the action end abruptly, leaving only her arm become phantom or the her arm considered as high rate as it's a goddess arm. Anyway shit fucked.
Having Asa Butterfield, a former child actor, to voice in Hades 2 is probably the closest thing to have the A-list Hollywood actor in Supergiant Games.
Oh god just wait till he gets a proper character sprite then the whole fandom will go insane 💀 Edit: chat they updated the sprites today, icarus got an updated sprite we’re cooked
from voicelines with moros and dora. most shades are unable to speak, or even remember their lives before dying i gues theyre missing part of their humanity
It's nice to see that people are absolutely adoring and supporting a straight relationship that's actually well written. The way the world has been going I thought the average person hated the timeless tale of a man and a woman falling in love with each other. My other point is in agreement, Meli needs Icarus as an option!!! THEY'RE SO CUTE TOGETHER!!!!

Clearly their history is much more pleasant than Meg and Zag’s but I’m 100% on board this wholesome train.
Seconded, though I'll always cherish Meg's absolute disgust with Zag in the beginning lol
"Itch, you again?" energy @@hopefulfriend4163
they seem more like than and zag. two people who have a clear history but things got really awkward between them.
Dora: Platonic Romance Option
Moros: Affection/Love-Starved trope
Nemesis: Rivals/Enemies-to-Lovers trope
Eris: I-Can-Fix-Her trope
Icarus: Mutual Pining trope
Well that explains a lot, since I for the life of me can't decide between Icarus and Moros 😭
Eris doesn't deserve Mel
"I can't not give him Bath Salts" (me, several updates down the line)

Asa Butterfield is the voice actor for Icarus. He was so excited with his announcement.
I’m flabbergasted! Asa is in a Supergiant game! He’s just a good voice actor, I can’t wait to see Icarus more when the game is done
Please let me have a romance option! PLEASE LET ME HAVE A ROMANCE OPTION!
I want to like this but it’s at 69 likes so I can’t ruin it😭
No way he’s NOT a romance option with this dialogue. If they made him not one I will REBEL
They're each other's maybes aww
I dont think they were lovers but rather friends who fancied each other I think she tried to make him whole again but it went wrong and he blames himself and keeps a clear distance between them both because of it
Exactly, but I wish they could be lovers ❤
Her brother did the orgy with death. Meli might do similar thing in the future.

Help I canNOT decide who to ship Mel with: Moros or Icarus!!!!!! They're both such lovely characters! 🥺😭
These two are sooooo cute what
I AM TORN I WAS INITIALLY MEL X NEM BUT THIS IS SHAKING MY FOUNDATIONS
Luckily this is Hades and gods are normally polyamorous
true that, but the same time, i don’t think retribution incarnate is one to share or forgive…
