- So much wonderful voice-acting talent in this game... I had to have a go at boarding how an animated sequence might look! This is for a Uni project/Portfolio work :)

Seriously, though, that's EXACTLY what he keeps expressing to Asterius in the game - 'what the fuck do you see in him?' *looks at Theseus* 'what the fuck does he see in you?'
To the point where Theseus is actually made insecure about it, and then we get the response animatic-ified in the video above - Asterius doesn't care what Zagreus as the character _or_ we as the players think, because his bond with Theseus is something Zagreus will never understand. And Zagreus is our point of view character, so let's face it, this also applies to us. I think that's pretty cool.

To be fair, Asteruis was a raging beast that lived his whole life in prison in life. Dying seems to have freed him from his pain and he feels he needs to return the favor Theseus, not by killing him but by helping with his vices.

Theseus gradually getting insecure about his relationship with Asterius was seriously one of greatest, funniest things in this game. Absolute gem of a game.
OMG when he went all "LET US FIGHT AND LET US LOOSE" the voice acting was perfect you could hear the sadness and anger in his voice while still be drama queen we know. I loved it, had that scene saved on my switch since then
It's the best rating game on psn and almost on steam for a reason (portal 2 is winning by 0.4% but given the fact it's there much longer Hades gonna surpass it imo)
To be fair it sound more serious because Asteriis is blunt as hell

@@MatthewTheUntitled I could've sworn the best rated game on PSN was Persona 5 Royal? It legit has a 10/10 rating from what I last saw. Not saying Hades doesn't deserve its place if its true, I just swear that I firmly remember P5R having that spot. Then again, maybe Hades went down a bit for some reason, can't really say. I don't exactly know a reliable place to check the PSN ratings of games.
I love that after this, they get a new attack where asterius rams into theseus's shield and creates a shockwave like hades' casts

@@Jadez1207 Like, a lot. I only got it a few runs ago and I've done the main story and I'm approaching 100 runs total. Each time you play you talk to them a bit more before they start having this dialogue.
Quite a few times tbh, you have to do the Asterius mini boss a few times along side it
@@abaddonarts1129 I only got to it recently myself & I'm at 166 runs. I think I only saw it after I beat them in Extreme Measures. Maybe that's the trigger?

In a way he highlights what constitutes a "hero" by Elysian standards: someone not righteous or virtuous or even someone who "does the right thing" but simply someone who did one or more impressive things worthy of being written down and sung

Theseus used to be king, of course he's boastful, prideful and a bit of a showman like that. If you don't like the guy fine to each their own but it's just weird to hate the guy over that lol

Of course everyone knows they are boyfriends but the "bond" they share is still pretty unique. In life they were mortal enemies, they probably didn't even think of each others names before they tried to kill each other. Of course Asterius was known as a man-eating bull-monster, which he seems to admit to being, and Theseus was ridding the world of a man-eating monster. However, in the after-life, Theseus took the Minotaur from wherever he was(presumably Tartarus where creatures like him end up) and brought him to Elysium, the "Home of Heroes". Something only Theseus, and very few others, would be allowed to do. Not only that, he declared him his brother in arms like. Achilles and Patroclus.
In that context, the fact they're boyfriends is probably not even in the top 10 of most interesting things about them XÞ

In defense of Theseus, I never once got the impression that he’s using Asterius. He genuinely considers Asterius his friend. He took a horrible bull-monster and gave it a SOUL. It makes no sense with his character, but that’s because we hate him, and we’re supposed to. Asterius is right - we’ll never understand their brotherhood, because we are (by design) too blinded by hate.
I mean to be fair, Zag walked in and fanboy'd all over Theseus, only for Theseus to be a complete jerk. It's not like we didn't give them a chance!

Theseus always struck me as "deluded", but that always made him more comical than hate-worthy. The fact he genuinely doesn't know or believe Zagreus is Hades' son made me laugh thinking someone was trolling either Theseus, Zagreus, or both.

This is such a gem. Asterius’ absolutely Done expression at 0:14, the little finger-wiggle Theseus does when he says phantasmagorical, Zagreus’ eye roll, it’s all just -chef kisses-
Hot take I think the love between them is actually brotherhood rather than romantic. The greeks had words for and valued many forms of love, and that doesn't make their relationship any less striking. Asterius was born a monster and raised as one, Theseus was the one who saw the humanity in him, killed him and ended his suffering, then brought him to the realm of heroes after death where they are eternally bound together. I think its beautiful. There's a lot of love in Hades its good to have some philia around.
Theirs would most likely be considered "Philia", or "Affectionate Love". It's the kind of love that signals strong friendship.
100% im annoyed everyones calling it romantic. Its a brotherly bond. Zag and Than is romantic. Theres a huge difference. YOU CAN LOVE YOUR FRIENDS AND IT STILL BE PLATONIC.

This was one of the most oddly wholesome moments in the game. While he is a narcissistic moron, his doubting the friendship he shares with Asterius is quite easily relatable, and how Asterius reassures him is both very much in-character and trustworthy.
It would have been hilarious to see Ariadne in this game

@@magicrainbowkitties1023well, being an elysian hero, the Olympian Gods have an obligation to aid him whenever he calls for the help of the gods on high. But Dionysus and Poseidon does hate Theseus. Dionysus will tell you about the one time where he left Ariadne on an island which was "not cool", and Poseidon tells you that your ass kicking of Theseus is awesome and he's rooting for you

Pretty sure that's half the joke of the scene (which is even funnier because it's character-accurate to Theseus' original mythos).
Personally I clap asterius first with a valiant battle, then I kill theseus with all my casts and greater call to inflict "in my eyes" the maximum pain possible in a short time

Strategically it's best to go for asterius first, because Theseus phase 2 is harder to deal with on top of asterius, but at this point I usually kill Theseus first out of pure spite

fun facc! Theseus was supposed to be the main character of Hades in earlier concepts of the game. it was supposed to be a simular concept but with Theseus killing the minotaur at the end of the maze! it was changed when they were having trouble justifying the countless deaths
thats how we got the Hades we know and love today!

This game's characters feel so... Alive at times (aside from the fact that they are... You know, dead). The amount of love and effort gone into creating this game is incredibly noticeable.

This animatic is officially what got me into the fandom and ultimately what made me buy the game
It is among my top 5 titles of all time by now and the sequel will no doubt join it there

I just remember getting to this fight for the first time and freaking out that these two were fighting me together and were at least cordial with each other. and the actors just made it enjoyable to come back.
