  • We had the privilege to not only shoot one e24 Alpina but two of these incredibly rare machines. How rare you ask? The e24 Alpina B10 3.5 is the only one of its kind that exists in the Western Hemisphere and is one of 14 that are known to be left in the world. It is a rare sight to see one of these cruising down the street, but seeing one together with another e24 Alpina is a whole different ballgame.

      +Éliphas Lévi If you live in Munich it`s no wonder you never see a E24 M6,they were never sold in Europe. Here they are called M635 csi. The US spec E24 M6 was altso down 30 bhp (256 bhp) on the M635csi`s 286 bhp

      Éliphas Lévi They have two different engines,the US M6 had whats called the S38 engine with a catalyzer,the euro spec M635 had the M88 engine without. The euro spec M635 is altso almost a second quicker to 62 mph. And then theres the 5 mph bumpers and other slight differences....

    333hp in 1983 in an Era where a "sportscar" had only 150-200hp. As I recall my dad's 1984 corvette had 205hp.

    • @MonkeyBarsEveryday
      @MonkeyBarsEveryday 7 лет назад +14

      Those Corvette C4s were junk. They had 5.7L V8s but were restricted so much as a result of emissions standards in the US. They also had this "crossfire injection" system which was trash. You could easily make 330 horse out of the same platform.

    • @MonkeyBarsEveryday
      @MonkeyBarsEveryday 7 лет назад +9

      The base model C3 (1968, predecessor to C4) made 300 horse

    • @bennyhannover9361
      @bennyhannover9361 5 лет назад +9

      The Alpina B7 S were the fastest cars in 1979 1980, topspeed was 270 km/h when the M1 did 262 km/h and the Porsche 933 turbo did 259 km/h and the acceleration was also similar to 933 turbo the Porsche did about 5,8 sec to 62 miles , the Alpina did 5,7 sec to 62 miles.

    • @bennyhannover9361
      @bennyhannover9361 5 лет назад +1

      you have to see that these 300 SAE hp were measured after the old methods with water cooling from external and with a Kick-starter, so that on a measuring instrument there might be 245hp left. Anyway to get close to such an Alpina you would need at least the 390hp versions from 1969 or a Big Block Corvette. Because the 330hp net match to about 410 hp measured in the way described above.

      Not in the classic era that the film talks of. Go compare a C2 or B3 2.7 Alpina E30 with an M3 of the same year they were far superior. Still a bargain too at half the price. Not sure for how much longer though :)

    The owner of BMW shop where I worked in the late 90s had a B6 2.8, based on the E-30. It was an absolutely fantastic car to drive. I’ve been a BMW tech for 22 years now and it is still my hands down favorite, and I’ve driven virtually every M car ever built. I had a 1979 Euro spec 635csi with the sport gearbox, while it was no Alpina, it was still an awesome car in it’s own right. I miss the connected feeling of the older BMWs.

    I owned a B10 535 Alpina while stationed in Germany in the 1990s. That was a fun car to own over there. It was forest green and was such a beast to drive. I use to cruise down the autobahn and B roads as fast as that car would go for hours. I bought it for 5K sold it for 8K to an officer. I still kick myself for not keeping it somehow.

    Who says '80s are not cool? In my opinion the 6-series of the '80s is the best looking BMW, hands down. As well as the 7-series from the same area. But the coupe has an edge in the looks department. Today's BMW styling is an insult.

      I agree that the 6 is a great looking car but the e28 5-series has much better proportions in my eyes, and is the best looking, to me, from that era. I just can't get over how awkward the e24 looks from the B-pilar back, with its huge quarter windows and downturned trunk, it really ruins the overall look. Shame, considering how amazing the long hood and aggressive shark nose front end looks.
      Don't even get me started on the 7-series, the designers got that one all wrong.

    I've loved Alpina's since I discovered them age 10 in 1981, when I was taken to the annual BMW car club by my dad at BMW GB in Bracknell in the UK. I just love Alpina's philosophy of make it faster, make it nicer, but make it also so usable and not track focused like M cars. M cars, the only ones I truly desire are the M635csi and the E34 M5 in 3.8 guise. Alpina's, I just love them all and would love to have an E24 Alpina, but it's probably never going to happen, but, a B3s E46, is a possibility and one I want so badly.

    Whew!!! Blown away by this video!!! I'm fortunate just to have my "100mph collision bumpers" US spec. 1984 e24 . I firmly believe that US automakers were so jealous of the Euro E24, they pushed to get those things put on it... Mine is one of the last 633csi built---- BMW imported just under 2000 of the 633csi in '84... The 5 speed '84 633csi is fairly rare today, I found that out after almost selling her for cheap... It's definitely not anywhere near the Alpina but.... I am smiling every time I get behind the wheel. "Miss Orwell"--- I love you!!!

    To keep my spirits up during the months of Lock down in 2020, I entered a few draws for cars. I wasn't expecting much, but if cost next to nothing, and gave me something to look forward to. The one that got me most excited was a draw for a 1973 BMW 2002 Turbo.
    Just thinking about driving that old school, classic style car had me anticipating the day of the draw. I day dreamed about road tripping in it, and remembered what it was like to drive the cars and trucks from the late 60s and 70s like I did when I was younger. From simple chicken trucks to sports cars, they were a totally different experience to what we have today.
    I totally understand the love of that era, and the BMWs from back then are iconic and unmistakable for anything else.

    What a cool guy! Those cars are beautiful. The 635csi was my favorite car growing up. I used to draw it, and Alpina was always the halo version for me. I had the pleasure (and some pain) of owning a 1988 535is, which was to this day the best handling car I've owned. Better than the 2004 330ci, which for some reason felt heavy. Wish I'd kept the 535is!

    BMW's are my life. I'm lucky to have been 18 in 1995 and owned several models. Great memories

    OMG, saw a e28 Alpina on De Soto in Canoga Park last week. It was a tribute car, white, and turbo.

    "Auto Motor & Sport", a german car magazine had a test and gathered some B7s and B7 coupes many years ago. (E28 and E24)
    All turbo-models, and most of them had outputs over 400bhp... :D
    Up northwest a E28 with four men onboard owned a guy on a Honda CBR900RR; On the straights! 290km/h... :D
    This was in the mid 90's.
    Those were the days.
    We were young and a bit mad, and had loads of fun! ;)

    Very great movie with very great cars! My grandfather had a 635csi, unfortunately i never seen or drove this car, only seen on photo's. I'm almost 20 years now, but i really love these cars! It's sad that these kind of cars are no longer produced.

    E28 B7S Turbo was the first Alpina I ever saw. It was in 1990 in Latvia of all places. I fell in love right away. I aspire to own one one day. But only after I acquire the “holy trinity”: E34 M5 Touring, E34 540i M Sport and an E34 B10.

      Joswick Gilmer I got my e28 for $500 so it is definitely rather inexpensive to own. It just needs a little bit of love, which is fine if you know how to work on them :)

    I used to own an Alpina BMW until a couple of years ago... a C2 2.7 E30 - great car. Huge difference between it an a regular E30 in everything from power to handling. Unfortunately I had to let it go to a better home, since I couldn't afford to maintain it anymore... Parts for alpina cars are very rare and extremely expensive... something as simple as a rear spring can be a huge pain in the ass to source. I do miss it tough...
