i remember like it was yesterday i was 15 working at safeways after getting my first paycheck ever i went to future shop and bought this album and listened to it on repeat playing perfect dark on n64 those were the days thanks finger eleven! so much nostalgia
I was 15 or 16 when this album came out. I remember seeing this video on MTV2 then going to the mall to buy this CD at FYE. I would be hanging out in my room with my stereo cranked up blasting this album and Tip nonstop. My mom would constantly yell at me to "turn down that racket" then, after about 15 minutes later, I would turn it back up again lol I sure do miss those days.
i fucking understand the video! its the fact that he has his heart broken and he was acting like a kid. and he felt the world was after him. Another girl came along and healed him but his family thought that she would just hurt him in the end so they get her out of his life. but at the same time. it feels like the first time all over again. because he is now free but yet, right back where he started.
The early 2000s where everyone wore baggy pants or jeans.. don't worry, I was that crowd. It was very post-grunge style and I was into that. The Greyest of the Blue Skies still stands today as my all time favourite album. Every song on that album could have been a single.
I used to watch this video on MTV-X that was an awesome channel all rock music no rap (crap) no stupid shows like Jersey Shore or Cribs or The Real World. Just straight up Rock. I miss those days.
I miss mtvx... I'll never forget the day I turned it on and it was just gone... Replaced with rap. I called my cable company and yelled at them. Worst day ever...
@@p1x3lb1n4ry I always thought their earlier albums had more of an alternative metal sound but I guess that could still kinda fall under the nu metal umbrella.
This is what got me into metal basically. I heard this and drag you down on the local radio station and I was immediately sold. I'm 33 now and make my own metal and I owe it all to these guys
I have always loved how into the music he gets. Some people say he acts stupid, or laugh at the way he acts, but I find it awesome! It really shows how in tune with his lyrics, and the rest of the music he is.
finger eleven was the first concert I went to at 16. It was a small venue in a small Canadian city. I was blown away by the energy and how loud a real concert was. my mind was blown. The songs still bring me back to the simpler times. Great for getting that pump at the gym.
While I don't remember buying TGOBS I vividly remember going to a media store in Royal Oak Michigan and buying Tip and that brought me to this amazing and soul assuring/breaking album.
The bass player? I’ve only ever knew that dude to take one step forward and two steps back on stage. He just stands there, ...... did you mean James Black? (Dude with electrical tape)
an oldie but still wonderful to this day. They are fantastic live, their energy is wonderful and the way they interact with the fans is awesome! I have and always will love these guys
Holy shit....I haven't heard this in over a decade. o__O I just turned 31...and was hugely into nu-metal in highschool/college. It's funny...I've completely changed my taste in music(my favorite bands are Animal Collective and Yeasayer) but the nu-metal genre will always hold a place in my teenage heart. Is it cheesy? You bet. But despite the absurdity of it all...there's still some interesting musical ideas the genre explored. I remember loving this song...learning how to play it in my dorm room. I remember it so well because, as I was working out the guitar tab, I noticed the TV out of the corner of my eye...showed NYC smoldering under a giant dust cloud. That was an interesting day.....
Music Video summarized There is a suburban kid who is not treated well by his brothers & peers, some humanoid made from mud comes to life from his depression caused by abuse, the humanoid despite her intentions is visually unappealing, & coupling that with her older looking age, she is determined to be a stranger danger to the child, & by the end the cycle continues after somebody who could have potentially helped him is chased out/vanquished.
Love this song and the video rocks though I wish I could have seen if the woman lived or if she had died for sure. I remember this song from when I was a teenager and I just absolutely love it. Thanks for posting it on RUclips.
Thank God that kid was not that fast at the beginning of the song cause we would have not ever have been given this song if he would have gotten away....
This album was in my top 3 (couldn't decide between them) albums in the 90's and then well into my adult years. It's still pretty far up there. The Greyest of Blue Skies was also the time period it got me through :p.
I saw these guys perform in a small campus bar called "The John" at McMaster University in the early 2000's. I only knew two songs by them back then: First Time and Above. Discovered all their other songs later on though.
"The greyest of blue skies" is amazing, from start to the end. Depressive, dark, aggressive and nu metal.
i think tip and the greyest of blue skies are my favorite finger 11 albums
Tip's better

Most underrated rock song of all time.
Hell no. But it's ok
But it kind of is. It was just recently awarded that title officially
That melody....man o man. This melody was ahead of its time.

One of these songs that keep popping up in your head from time to time and then it's awesome to give it a listen again even after all those years.
I just spent five minutes trying to remember the band name. Of course the title was also gone. I still remember the lyrics, though!

The alternative scene of that era was fantastic! So many good bands.
Facts....rappers, skaters, ravers, skids...all baggy

I was SOOO pissed when they turned MTV-X into MTV Jamz.

It's nu metal

Just got this album along with 'Tip.' There are some of the best guitar riffs you'll ever hear on both albums
if by best u mean easy to play by even a novice guitar player like me then ya.. you are correct lol.

@@jacinto1477 agreed. Smoke on the Water’s riff is super simple yet extremely iconic.
One of the best songs ever, never even heard it on the radio.

I remember getting this as a single when I worked for Chapters online. I couldn’t stop listening to it.
