Thanks David. 🙏☕️🤔 I honestly think this is what the developers had in mind…an interface where all the bits & pieces of artwork can be freely copied & moved around the timeline. Not as efficient at first, but the power is in the pencil. Anyone who’s done cutout or replacement animation could probably get the hang of it without a huge learning curve. I think it’s designed for artists, minimal geek skills required. Having said that, I’d love to see a few tweaks in the future. ✊🌏🕊✌️
I agreed. I think it is a software that is fun to use without needing a lot of technical knowledge. I'm sure it will become robust fairly quickly, but I hope it continues to have a simple, easy-to-use interface. Procreate has been able to maintain that approach, so I would think Dreams would be the same. Thanks for watching!

I key up everything in OBS. You dont see enough videos about just talking and already having your mouth shapes registered. It seriously saves tons of time.
I use a 2020 iPad Pro 12.9 inch with an Apple Pencil (2nd generation). I'm probably not the best person to ask since this is the only iPad I've used. These are actually the only Apple products I own. I use Windows on my PCs, and my phones have always been Android. As old as my iPad is, I haven't ran into any limitations. My only suggestion on the iPad is I can't imagine working on one smaller than the 12.9 inch. I feel like it is too small already, so I don't think I would consider the 11 inch. Concerning the Apple pencil, I love it as much as any of the Wacom pens I use. I would just want to ensure whatever you get offers pressure sensitivity. I think they have removed that feature from the new pencil, but you can still buy the 2nd generation version. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Hi David How do you animate with a head that is not stationary. You could do it with a moving background to give the illusion of movement but that is still really a stationary head. If the head is moving say in a conversation with someone else and he is turning his head and talking simultaneously. Thanks
I can only think of two ways to do this in Procreate Dreams at the moment, which would be either drawing new mouths to match the audio as the head turns or modify an existing mouth to match the head turn using transform tools, such as warp, but I think either option would require more work compared to a stationary head; however, sometimes that will be necessary based on the animation you are working on. @@davidpikedesigns I meant to say that one too I received was to video or photograph self saying the words. Another tip was to use the slide over to view that, or import it as a track. Maybe too much? There's an excellent chapter geared towards facial expressions in "Making Comics" (author Scott McCloud). This is not a promo. In fact, since prior editions this is my 3rd purchase. The book and chapter are not aimed at animation. He charts emotions to facial movements. This time, I'll leave that chapter in the book. I think the whole book (paperback ,2006 Ed.) has been a great resource for planning, understanding storytelling, composition and character design. Maybe even for film makers! Of all his instructional books, this one is my favorite, very practical and made me appreciate the world of illustration paired as part of a storyteller's vocabulary. Otherwise, I find it helpful to do some quick sketches on paper from the video. Observing, stopping as I go. Really that chart you shared and info from doodlingdebbie1 are good finds.
I hadn't heard of the "Making Comics" book. I have his book on perspective, which is great, and his "Understanding Comics" book, but I haven't read it yet. I'll check out the suggestion! There is also a short lip sync chapter in the book "Character Animation Crash Course" by Eric Goldberg.
Hi, Why do you have the mouths colored in on about 4 different layers. Eg the red for the tongue on 1 layer, the white teeth on another layer, the black on another layer. What is the benefit of this compared to having them on 1 layer. It would I suppose help to open the mouth larger by moving the layer beneath wider, but you didn’t do this during the video.
It probably isn't necessary to separate all of the colors on different layers; although, I would recommend keeping the line art on one layer and the color art on a layer beneath it. Keeping at least those two separate allows you to color beneath the line art without having to worry about accidently overlapping the lines. I probably just added the different colors on separate layers out of habit, but it isn't necessary. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
I’m so sad that there’s no lasso, and you’re not able to distort or warp if there’s multiple layers. Also, vector would be cool too. I use ToonSquid more…but I want to like procreate dreams and use more 😂 it’ll get better soon I’m sure

This is what I've been doing. Except without the guide. Just lots of looking in the mirror while slowly sounding out words. Drawing a bunch of mouth shapes and then painstakingly coping and moving them into place.
Yes, it can be a very time-consuming process, especially if your character turns and you have to change the mouth images based on the new perspective. While Toon Boom Harmony is a bit more streamlined than this option, it isn't much quicker since you still have to draw the shapes. I think it is a bit painstaking in any software.
