If I were starting out, and I wanted to balance cost with functionality, and I didn't need to animate on the iPad, I would look at Moho Pro for 2D animation. I like Blender, and it is free; however, working on 2D character animation within Blender has its challenges. I prefer creating my environments in Blender and animating characters in Toon Boom Harmony. If I didn't already have a Harmony perpetual license, I would be using Moho. They have a robust range of tools that allow you to rig and manipulate images. They also have an extensive, free training course on RUclips, and they frequently load tutorials. I would expect them to have a holiday sale as well, so I would keep an eye out for that. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

Concerning Rhubarb, I haven't tried it, but, unfortunately, the GitHub page says, "This project is not under active development, and does not work on Blender 3.2 and above. See the issues tab for some community discussion on how to get it working for later Blender versions." I typically use the latest version of Blender, so it sounds like using it won't be possible.

Unfortunately, I haven't been using Procreate Dreams much lately. Since there hasn't been an update in four months, I've switched back to Blender Grease Pencil and Toon Boom Harmony for now because of the lack of basic tools in Procreate Dreams. Hopefully, if they provide some updates in the future, I might consider new tutorials. Thanks for watching!

I agree! I prefer to do my compositing in other software, such as DaVinci Resolve; however, some people like to keep their workflow in one program whenever possible. Luckily, Blender has a built-in compositor for those people, but I do think using multiple programs can make the process easier. Thanks for watching!

I don't know this for a fact, but I'm not aware of any iPad apps that offer extensive rigging options.

I put together a simple animation to test this out, and I couldn't see a way to copy and paste keyframes from one track to another. I think that would be a great option to have, but with the slow development of Procreate Dreams, I wouldn't expect it anytime soon.

To my knowledge, you can't do that in Procreate Dreams yet. I checked the manual to confirm. It doesn't offer extensive color palette options like other animations programs, such as Toon Boom Harmony or Blender.

If you can work on a PC or Mac instead of an iPad, I would say Moho is the best option. In my opinion, it offers the best functionality to price ratio. Also, they have a very extensive training course for free on RUclips. I've been using Toon Boom Harmony, but it is expensive, and I've considered transitioning to Moho. They show some really great animations on their channel.

I'm pretty disappointed in the slow development of the program. I expected a lot more functionality to be available by now considering how long it has been available.

@@davidpikedesigns it's downright shameful! haha they made such a big deal about it when it released, and it instantly felt like they were missing features. But everyone had faither because of how far procreate had come. Now all that good faith has been squandered.

Agreed. I've lost my faith, and I've gone back to working with Blender Grease Pencil and Toon Boom Harmony. As much as I love drawing on the iPad, I won't be using it much for animation moving forward.

I'm not certain about the blue part because I would need to see the file to see what is happening, but the camera perspective can be found by using zero on your numpad. This switches the viewport view to the camera's perspective. In the top menu, you can also click on View>Viewpoint>Camera. Another way is to click the movie camera icon to the right of the viewport, which is to the left of of the Outliner window. There should be four white icons in circles: Magnifying Glass, Hand, Camera, and Perspective Grid. The camera icon switches the camera perspective on and off. Hope that helps!

I know! I thought they would be churning out updates, but not much has happened in the last few months.

Unfortunately, if you rotate the head, the mouth shape will need to change to match the head's new perspective. This is part of why 2D can be more time consuming than 3D. I'm always back and forth between whether I want to use 2D or 3D. I like the 2D look more, but it can be a pain to use.
