Everyone’s commenting that it was easy and didn’t take them long. I have to say, when you said push the white clip down at the beginning of the video i thought you meant push it toward the ground. I fought it for 30 minutes until i watched a different video where he said to push up. After tht i was able to figure it out and was a breeze. Came back to watch and towards the end of the video you said push the clip up. Great video. Thanks.
First I would like to say "THANK YOU" for this video. Saved me a bunch of time and headaches. The only thing that I would like to add......to make it easier to access the fender well cavity turn the front wheels to the opposite side you are working on. Turn to driver side for passenger wheel well and turn to passenger side for driver side wheel well.
Video instruction was spot-on, thank you. Watched a different video of a dude that said you had to remove the grill and radiator shroud, I thought, that can't be right.... Glad I found this.
JPeezygoinham it happens! We service a fleet where the previous mechanics broke a few of the slide clips off. And they were still very secure in the housing
I’m glad you made this video I on a 2010 1500 4 x 4 and have never change bulbs so now I can go ahead and change all of them thank you so much now I don’t have to look it up. Your video really has made it easy for me and save me lots of money to have it installed being that I am 76 and not as agile as I used to be lol
I had previously taken my truck to Firestone to replace a bulb. I was told by the tech that it was one of the hardest bulbs he’s ever replaced and it took him 2 hours. After watching this excellent video , I replaced this one myself in 10 mins! Thank you for this !
This was a big help I have a 2018 ram this is the first ram I ever had this is Quite a process for a headlight compared to the other trucks I’ve owned but your video made it quick and simple thank you

I have a 2011 and had to take the grill off to get the light assembly out.. next time I will take the grill off first as it provides great access to the mounting bolts of the light assembly. Info in the video is spot on 👌
your video was awesome it took me 5 minutes to change out my light headlight bulb and I didn't even have to pull my grill or anything else all I can say that was awesome my dealership said it would cost probably a hundred and some dollars to change my headlight bulb and a local automotive shop told me it could cost me up to $155 plus the light bulb thank you so very much for your video
2015 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty 4x4 Awesome video sir. I love the way you explained every step. Most people skip little details assuming that everyone knows it or they just forget to include it because it’s a small detail… sometimes the small details are the most important ones. Thanks again!
great job..thanks so much..lady next was told it would cost her $150.00 dollors to get her bulb replaced..now I can help her for free..gotta love it..thanks again
Great video! Helped me out a ton! The only thing I will mention is that the Laramie Limited's headlight assemblies work slightly differently. When the assembly is removed, there are 5 7mm bolts that need removed, and the beams are 9005s rather than H11s. Other than that, it's a pretty identical process! Thanks again!
Thanks so much for this video!! 2014 Dodge Ram here. I used a claw plunge grabber to catch the bolt in the lower hole (after loosened with the extension socket) and to realign when replacing. Also took a picture of the bottom last button to snap out. It took a little muscle to pop that one out since it was a “ball and socket” type joint with a metal post into tight plastic socket.
Excellent video, very easy to follow. Definitely needs to be updated to note TAB goes UP, not down. As well, maybe add a note that there are other videos that show removing grill. Totally not needed. I have 2015 Eco Diesel. The only thing different is the cover for the light bulbs has bolts instead of a cap. Other than that, so simple. Low beam is the blue, round light, high beam is the deep, recessed one.
Absolutely ridiculous how Ram made these lights. I can do an oil change on my Ram 10x faster than this, not to mention having to by an extension for the bolt (probably $20). Good video. Bad Ram.
lol seriously complaining about a clip, two bolts and needing an extension? I think you'll survive. If you don't own several extensions for your socket sets, you probably shouldn't be working on your truck...
Awesome. Thanks for the instruction. I just switched over to LEDs in my 2015. They needed changing. They were burnt looking. Same as the tail lights. 207,000kms on the truck. Only real thing I replaced.
Thanks for this great video. After watching the video twice, took me less than 20 minutes to replace my bulbs on my 2011 RAM. Hardest part was finding the right angle to get the assembly out of the front of the truck while not scratching the paint. I can see why people say taking the grill off makes it easier. I found I didn't need to. Just carefully moved the assembly around until I found the right angle. Saved me a few minutes versus taking the cover and grill off.
Glad this video helped! Sometimes I pull the grill off when doing this repair. It depends on how stuck in the grommets the headlight assembly is, and how strong my arm feels that day. Happy Motoring!
Awesome thank you! Couldn’t find the “white” clip, but turns out mine was really dirty. Lol. Took about 5 minutes per headlight, thanks for saving me big $$ at the dealer!

2015 Dodge Ram Big Horn 4x4. Thank you so much for the video you made it effortless. Saved a lot of time without pulling off front grille which is what most of these videos say. Thanks
I don’t know if it’s different on the truck he does in the video. But the white tab from the fender well you have to release. It unlocks by pushing strait up to unlock and straight down to lock back relative to the ground. In the video he says to pull down to unlock. This cost me a bit of time and frustration. Maybe it’s different like I said. Mine a 2018 ram 1500 big horn.
Thank you for sharing this video ! My driver's side parking light blew out on my 2010 bighorn. U saved me a ton of aggravation in dealing with it. Other videos show you how you got to take off the front grill, & radiator cover. What a pain in the ass just to get at a bulb ? That's just ridiculous. Your video made it so easy & painless man. Again, Thank you for putting this video out here...
Thanks. Big help. In my 2017 RAM 3500 Laramie I did not have to remove any plugs - just opened the. trap door. And I had 5 small bolts to remove to get to the bulb instead of just unscrewing the housing. But still very helpful.
Just did my lights last night (upgraded to better bulbs). Do yourself a favor and pull off the grill before you try to remove the headlights. Makes removal much easier if they haven't been pulled out in a long time. I could not get mine removed from pushing on the back. If you don't remove the grill, the light housing will grab the grill and they won't pull out easily. Grill is only held on by 4 10mm bolts and well worth the extra 2 minutes to remove. I promise you, unless those headlights have been removed by someone else, it is much easier to do.
Upgrading bulbs is the most common reason that we are replacing bulbs in those trucks. Thank you for posting that tip! Of the ones we have replaced, we have not had any issues with removing the headlight assemblies but I can see where that could become difficult. Happy Motoring!
I just removed mine without removing the grill and I wish I had bothered reading through the comments because I pretty much scratched my grill the lower screw wouldn't come out on it's own I had to pull pretty hard to take it out ! But anyways yes removing the grill would have been the best choice!
Yea, couldn't get the bottom bolt to come out after I loosened it, so I took the grill off. Just remove the cover on top,, 4 X10m bolts and give it a yank on the corners.
Thank you for the video. I never would have found that damn compartment under the tire well. I had to replace the whole headlight assembly for my vehicle inspection on my 2013 Ram 1500.
Just did this on my 2013 ram 1500. I took the grille off too because the vertical bolts didn’t want to come out smooth. Great video. I replaced all the bulbs with leds while I swapped the driver side housing.
Hi I was wondering what brand leds did you use. I know some can have issues with drl flickering with ram's and it seems every brand either works plug and play or does not. I'd like to know so I can install on mine when I do this
I have a 2014 Ram. The clip was black, and up waaay higher than you think it would be. A normal 10mm socket (not a long one) will just barely squeeze into the top bolt spot, and you'll need two 6-inch extenders to reach the bottom one.
Similar to others, found that the clip must be slid UP to release the light fixture; and slid back DOWN to lock it in place (for a 2012 RAM 1500 Sport, anyhow). Also, as a note, the white retention clip is located approx. 2" above the back of the parking light bulb, for a distance reference; very difficult to actually see the white clip through the little access panel in the wheel well, ; you really have to find it by "feel".
Thank you for clearing that up. because at 0:51 he says "pull down" when he was removing it and at 6:01 he said again "pull down" when he was reinstalling it. Also I might add its probably best to test the lights before you put it all back together again.
I have a 2019 ram 1500 classic and just spent about an hour and cannot get the headlight out. In this video you mentioned to pull the tab down to remove the headlight and then again down to secure it. So which way do I push/pull the tab to remove the headlight?
I tried this for quite a while because giving up and removing the grille. Took no time at all to remove it and it made it super easy after that, I'd recommend just taking the grille off it's really not that difficult/time consuming but the rest if the vid was great
This is my first dodge ive owned and honestly not a fan at all that is crazy they made it that hard to change a bulb! But your video helped so much thanks!
Awesome video man I have a 2015 ram 1500 larime that has the projector headlights I wanted to up grade the bulbs in it to match my 2013 GMC Sierra sle and 2013 impala ltz this helped a lot thank you😎
Antonio Davis good luck! Let us know how it goes! And be careful with the white tab on the headlight! Be sure the read the video description. Happy Motoring !
An hour at the auto parts store wondering which bulb h11 or 9005. Add projector or reflector and you've got a great time. I put my VIN into the AutoZone website and I still get choices for both bulbs both types and ones that say hi beam or low beam or both. I guess I'll just dig one out and drive back to the parts store with one headlamp off. Other than some of these fixes being terribly difficult great truck
ok guys, just wanted to say thanks and if this 72 yr old soon to be great Nana (don't like grandma) can do this ANY one can. Might have taken me longer but it's done and I can truck on!!! thanks again. 9-10-20
Hey Jeni!! That is awesome! What a Great Nana you are!! Just an fyi it took me about 4 hours to film this, and it took me almost three hours for me to do the first one! Talk about a super hardcore killer!

It should be made into law that a motorist be able to change a headlight bulb at the roadside with out so many tools and effort. I tried to replace the bulb and now the truck is at the dealership for a week because the light assembly will not come out as easily for me as it does for you in your video. But thank you for putting the video out there because it was worth a try. Could Ram not think of an easier design to change the bulb??!FYI... I think with Ram's 2019 truck you need to remove the transmission to get to the turn signal bulb.
Hahaha yooo I did. Scratching my head. I swear until I saw this video I was like 😲 that lid I thought was to hide the keys when going to the beach 😂🤦♂️🙃😆. 🤷♂️.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

+Jerry Mander some engineer somewhere thought this was a better idea, and would save them money. At least they modified the fender liner to allow easy access to the slide clip holding the light it. It would be a real pain if that was not there.
Thank you for the video, but it should say in the beginning you need a 10 inch extension to take the bottom screw out and the white clip is basically straight upwards cause I looked and could not see it for ever till I put my camera with flash on. But thank you again cause my husband wanted to take the whole grill off...

I have a 2014 Ram. The clip was black, and up waaay higher than you think it would be. A normal 10mm socket (not a long one) will just barely squeeze into the top bolt spot, and you'll need two 6-inch extenders to reach the bottom one.
Awesome the video that keeps on giving just changed my 2014 headlights got to love RUclips 👍👍

Similar to others, found that the clip must be slid UP to release the light fixture; and slid back DOWN to lock it in place (for a 2012 RAM 1500 Sport, anyhow). Also, as a note, the white retention clip is located approx. 2" above the back of the parking light bulb, for a distance reference; very difficult to actually see the white clip through the little access panel in the wheel well,
; you really have to find it by "feel".
Awesome help and comment! THANK YOU! Happy Motoring-Blair
Thank you for clearing that up. because at 0:51 he says "pull down" when he was removing it and at 6:01 he said again "pull down" when he was reinstalling it. Also I might add its probably best to test the lights before you put it all back together again.
Thanks man I pulled it down and it wouldn't come out, once I pushed it up, np
Best video I've found on this subject, well done and thank you.
Wow, thanks! I appreciate the feedback! Happy Motoring-Blair
I have a 2019 ram 1500 classic and just spent about an hour and cannot get the headlight out. In this video you mentioned to pull the tab down to remove the headlight and then again down to secure it. So which way do I push/pull the tab to remove the headlight?
Much appreciated. Was getting ready to tear my hair out wondering how to get at them.

I tried this for quite a while because giving up and removing the grille. Took no time at all to remove it and it made it super easy after that, I'd recommend just taking the grille off it's really not that difficult/time consuming but the rest if the vid was great
Thanks, I just replaced both my headlights with the help of your video.

Good job man. Thanks for taking the time to show us this. I could not figure out how to get in behind those headlights. This video helped a lot.

Does the bottom aluminum screw have any adjustment qualities? I mean if I screw it in or out will cause the headlight beam to aim high or low?

Thanks so much for the video. The first side took me a while but the second was a snap. What a stupid design. I miss my ford.
Glad this video helped you! Haha its a rough design but it helps with keeping all that motor cool with the big wide front end! Happy Motoring- Blair
I had to push the white tab upwards to unlock the headlight. Thanks for the video though.

Thanks for this video! Kept me from removing the grill, too!
Glad this video helped!! Happy Motoring! Blair
I really liked the previous iteration of the Ram headlight. Just unclip and remove the bulb. No need to remove the whole assembly.
+Jerry Mander some engineer somewhere thought this was a better idea, and would save them money. At least they modified the fender liner to allow easy access to the slide clip holding the light it. It would be a real pain if that was not there.
perhaps the lamp housing will see less water penetration, having the seals less exposed. But I won't know that for a few more years.

Thanks this video saved me lots of time👍
Glad it helped Happy Motoring-Blair
Thank you for the video, but it should say in the beginning you need a 10 inch extension to take the bottom screw out and the white clip is basically straight upwards cause I looked and could not see it for ever till I put my camera with flash on. But thank you again cause my husband wanted to take the whole grill off...
