The Hyundai Tucson has received a substantial makeover for this fourth-generation model, getting a dramatic new exterior design. It also has a much more upmarket interior than before but one that still offers plenty of space, plenty of technology and a big boot. Buyers have an excellent range of engines to pick from too. Can it tempt buyers away from rivals that include the Peugeot 3008 and Ford Kuga? Nicola Hume puts the latest Tucson through its paces to find out.

A much fairer review than Matt's from Carwow - I tend to like his reviews, but as soon as it's a Hyundai, you can bet that it's going to be a negative review from him, regardless of the actual quality or improvements to the car.

I love the fact that Hyundai have built their infotainment screen in to the dashboard and not tried to make it a tablet that looks like an aftermarket add on, like so many other manufacturers seem to be doing. We have owned the 227bhp Tucson Hybrid for 1 week & we love it. Ours is in Shimmering Silver which contrasts perfectly with the dark trim. The Ultimate has leather seats & both the front seats have electric adjustment. The electric sunroof is the very best. The ride is on the firm side but the seats are so comfortable you don't notice it. When you floor the accelerator the increase in speed is dramatic. This is a great car, much better than the Tucson Go which it replaced. The icing on the cake was a £7,100 discount & the car was delivered by trailer to our home with just 5 miles on the clock.

Its odd, T3 HYU has been around quite a bit, half the planet seems to have reviewed it. A common complaint was the ride wasn't good or the handling much fun. Yet you had a more positive view of both which is refreshing. I am looking forward to testing one myself as reviews are so subjective. It could be an ideal replacement for my RAV4 offering all the same features, competitive company car tax BIK rates (hybrid) and needing 100mm less driveway length, my RAV4 doesn't quite fit on!

Hyundai's Day Time Running (DRL) light game is really good (ditto for Kia and Genesis). Such a fan of the sharp and distinctive styling. Likely trading in my Mazda CX5 for the Tucson Full Hybrid...the wait times are pretty crazy and I understand there are markups but fingers crossed.

I got this car a few weeks ago from a short lease deal. I couldn't chose it specifically I just chose a price class. I'm also not someone who likes suvs and I don't have a family. So this car seems all wrong for me but honestly I'm pretty happy with it, I came from a relatively recent Volvo V60 (2019 or something, can't quite remember) and honestly I'm not missing anything in this Tucson versus the V60 though the tucson that I got seems to be a bit heavy on the options (as far as I can work out the only thing missing is the sunroof)
I never thought I'd like this car but I do. Though I still think it would have been better as a sedan or wagon

Great review and it looks to be a good car - however I still can’t quite work out why manufacturers aren’t selling more MPVs than they are - other than looks:
I have a current shape VW Touran which is a smaller car but far more spacious inside. It looks smart enough and is a realistic option for 3 child families when in 5 seat mode with the rear row folded down, as the boot is huge - unlike SUVs like this (only 2 isofix in the back plus a smaller boot). It's also cheaper to run with better aerodynamics and smaller, narrower tyres meaning lighter, better fuel consumption, lower road tax and cheaper tyres.
Anyone looking at this review with 3 kids should check out the Touran or the Citroen Space Tourer - long live the stylish (OK, a slight stretch) MPV!!

Is it just me who finds Hyundai’s new design language very jarring and confused?? I speak as a Hyundai owner who was looking forward to the release of the new i20, but as much as I tried I just couldn’t find a single bit of synergy and I’m finding myself really turned off the Tucson too. Despite seeing a few on the roads now, neither are growing on me. Hopefully this is a blip as from what I’ve seen, the new Ioniq is next level in terms of design and desirability.

No I don't. Don't like it. Anyone who is a proper car enthusiast will know this ain't a Land Rover Defender 🙄 and it's not as desirable as a Mercedes-Benz AMG C63 Estate which is far better and looks beautiful and sounds beautiful 😍 that biturbo V8 engine and even The AMG A35 and A45s are amazing. Lack of instrument cowel, looks rubbish. Lots of glossy black, rubbish. Lack of buttons most of importantly audio volume and station change not a good idea. Honda proved that point. Im surprised that Hyundai would think it's all a go in the interior. With that said its a stunning bit of design on the outside. Nice.
