I own the top range one you've reviewed. You're pretty much spot on with most things, but not knowing your full driving abilities or qualifications, I disagree with the handling comments. I can easily 'rag' mine around the country twisties without very much isuue at all. If you want to really hustle, get a sports job like a 917 or similar. This is an SUV and the driving scenario is more relaxed.
In my opinion, it's looks far outshine the boring, box looks of the Tiguan and it's VW counterparts. But, I suppose that with all their group advertising, you can't really not say anything different, other than the fact their cars are better.
The Tucson has won more awards than the other two cars you mentioned put together.
    Really?

I dont agree with you on the handling part. I have this car to and it feels very planted. But just with the 17 inch rims . Big difference! I especially chose the smaller rims for more ride quality. Handles much better and soaks up bumps! love the car! And btw.. an SUV doesn't need to be sporty.. so no argument there.
and something else...while giving full throttle complaining about the noise. sorry mate but my last car (Tiguan) made noise to. 99,9 % we dont do full throttle.

Totally agree, I don’t know what he was talking about. I find it to be an excellent drive. Firm, quiet and handles extremely well. We’ve moved from a kona premium to this Tucson premium hybrid and the difference to the ride is miles apart . The feel and the drive is very similar to an Audi A6 I have also. As for the power, I don’t know any engine that doesn’t get louder gruntier when you put your foot down.

I like it - I just bought one - but I did recongnise that the rear vertical led tail lights were stolen from peugeots designers and the horizontal light bar across the rear from Seat. Not a massive fan of the squared wheel arches either but I am a fan of the creases along the body. Its the edgiest designed vehicle in an extremely conservative category.

Same here. Drove it back to back with a Peugeot 3008 hybrid on the same route and I liked it just as much. And although I think the Peugeot has a nicer interior, the Tucson is way roomier and its gearshifts(the hybrid version at least) are far smoother. The Tucson is also cheaper, so in the end the choice was pretty simple.

I bought a base model and love it. The only complaint is the lane departure system goes off allot on narrow road, just hold button in to turn off. and the little petrol needs mores power overtaking.

  • @ianwhiteside8156
    @ianwhiteside8156 3 года назад +10

I have the 227bhp hybrid Ultimate and have to say that for a large spacious SUV with a 0-60 time of 7.7secs, the economy is excellent as I'm averaging over 50mpg!
I love the looks of it both internally and externally, it definitely gets noticed on the road! thanks to the unique front grill/lights not to mention the sharp swage lines down the sides finishing with the eye catching and attention to detail lights at the rear.
The amount of kit in it is fantastic! including things like heated seats x4, ventilated cooled leather in the front as well, the heated steering wheel is a boom in winter and just like land rover it has a Hill Descent button.
Now to name a few bad points, but by no means all the bad points. It would be better with some physical buttons especially for the temp control the fan speed and the volume control. There is also a lot of niggles on the tech side of the vehicle which I would hope Hyundai take on board. Things like the lane departure is on whenever you start the car even if you set it to off on the last journey, and to turn it of isn't an easy task when your driving, brill if you travel most of the day on m/ways but country roads it can be annoying and dangerous as you have to fight the steering wheel!
The Digi clocks look cool as there's 4 types to choose from, but no toggle switch? again you've to go through lots of menus. The standard screen can change to the red racing clocks when you flick the physical sport mode button but if your on a different dash the clocks don't change at all it just says sport.
The list goes on and I think Hyundai could vastly improve this model just by doing a systems update, but on the whole I absolutely love it and I've owned hundreds of cars in over 37years of driving.
Come on Hyundai listen to your customers.

I’ve ordered a hybrid ultimate and wonder what you think of the LED headlights? In the UK we only get the MFR LEDs, instead of projector LEDs. How do you find them? I currently have a Karoq with LED projectors and they’re easily the best headlights I’ve ever had and are miles better than the ones I had on my Leon, which were MFRs. Its one of the only things that I think might be a downgrade when I get the Tucson. Interested to hear your experience.

@@stephenwakeman3074 Hi, To be honest I am happy with the brightness of the headlamps. The LED daylight running ones built into the grill are really bright, people Def notice them! But at night the main lights are also plenty bright enough they also have the Auto high beam which actually works. In all honesty headlight brightness doesn't really bother me as 6mths of the year they're not really needed, and most of the roads I'm on are well lit, for the few times I'm travelling in the dark on an unlit road they are fine, I don't even drive on our dark motorways at night. I wouldn't let that put you off a great all round vehicle.

I recently purchased a 2023 Tucson Hybrid on 12/3/22. I loved the car when I test drove it and watched hours of reviews from RUclips. One thing that every single review failed to mention, is the issue Hyundai has with their panoramic sunroofs, as well as the small piece of glass inbetween the sunroof and the front windshield. There have been class action lawsuits filed against Hyundai because apparently these pieces of glass like to spontaneously burst. This happened to my 2023 Tucson after just ONE WEEK of driving. Walked out to my car ready to head to work, and noticed this giant crack in the glass, expanding from one end all the way to the other end. Car is back at the dealership right now, allegedly getting fixed at no cost to me. But some of the personal stories I've read online make me hesitant to believe that Hyundai is actually going to cover it. I'll come back with more details once I get an update. But just wanted other buyers to be aware of this common issue. I am not very pleased.

I dont anderstand what Doug is talking about, because I drove this car for a week as demo car from dealership before I put an order for the car and I felt it was perfect in handling, driving experinence and fuel consumption. For me it was betweeen Tuscon and Rav4 whwn I decided to to purchrase a hybrid car. Rav 4 had better fuel consumption when I deove it for 3 days but I went for Tucson because it felt more refined and had better handling and driving experience. I am from Sweden and I have had my fair share of Volvo cars, but in last 20 years I have driven Toyota, MItsubishi and Honda and never had any problem with them. So it seems to me that brittish motor Journalists have sometthing against korean cars and I don't get it, because they praise european brands despite that they always are the least reliable when you look at consumer satisfaction report tha last 5 years from Europe and the US. I purchased my new Tucson Hybrid with all top level safety features and trim level for 400 000 SEK which equal 39 600 EUR. @alexandergoldman 2 года назад +1

@@chicoandthem4n Mazda's are generally good cars. I stick to the regular maintenance schedule at the dealership and never miss oil changes. My CX5 is the last year of the previous body style so the tech is severely lacking, the seat warmers are SLOW in the winter, the air conditioner is not as cold as I'd like it and there are squeaks and rattles coming from the rear trunk door. It's rated at 187 hp but it feels ~20 to 30 hp shy of where I'd like it and the fuel efficiency is just average. The lack of HP is the main reason why I'm likely trading it in for the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid (227 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque) with close to 40mpgs so it's the best of both worlds. Also, I really like the styling of the new Tucson - but it's subjective. This will serve as my electrification bridge until I switch to full EVs but that's just me. I think the CX5 is a bit overpriced these days imo..rather spend a bit more and get the Tucson Hybrid. Definitely test drive both. Good luck!

I own Hyundai Tucson MHEV 180hp AWS for 1,5 years now. Great car, but with a few unfortunate deficiencies. First, it has a quite low sitting headlights without washers. In the winter the headlights get covered with snow and sleet very fast and pretty much stop lighting the road. Second, there is no rear camera washer, so, again, in the winter it gets dirty quickly. Third, the rear turn indicators are sitting low in the bumper and not easily visible by those following you. That said, it is still a very good car. My wife loves it. But... I have already ordered ny Tiguan PHEV. Need to wait almost 9 months, though.

    • @Jabber-ig3iw

Why do people think those indicators are hard to see? Bizarre, they are perfectly visible to anyone not giving it the full Audi and sitting on your back seats. In fact they are more visible because abuse of the separation from the bright brake lights.

@@Jabber-ig3iw For example, when you stop at the traffic lights close enough to Tucsan, its turning lights are not visible to you at all. And by "close enough" I mean "reasonably close", not "in 10 cm distance".

Very much agree on strange suspension, it is kind of mix of features, at times nice and comfortable, sometimes suspiciously waving, and sometimes firm vibrations. That must be electronically controlled suspension which fails to be good at some times, but still acceptable on good tarmac.

The front looks like a Stormtrooper and the interior looks like it's a laptop on wheels.
However, the dealbreaker is that there is no spare wheel in the back. Anyone who ever had a flat with his family will tell you how fun it is not being able to change it right then and there and having to wait (not to mention the hassle) of roadside assistance.

The Volvo is better looking, but too pricey and less reliable than the Hyundai badge. Also don’t like the Volvo vertical centre display thing. Ford do that in some cars too and it isn’t the best idea. Definitely not a fan of the lack of physical buttons/dials in the new Tucson however.
Striking that right display-to-physical-control balance is an area where they vast majority of car interiors (where you spend your time) fall short indeed.
If there’s one thing that car interior design proves, it’s that car design is not easy, otherwise why do so many fall so short?
While the dash of the new Honda Civic is not perfect (still has some black gloss), car makers should look to it for inspiration going forward. It’s one of the best dashboards of the past two decades, and would give this dash a tonne. Up the materials and give it a slightly bigger display and lose the remaining bit of black gloss and car interior design would really be heading somewhere.
Volkswagen jumped off some kind of cliff on their EV dashboards, but appear to be course correcting now with their new CEO. At least if that ID.2 concept is any indication. Note: never rest your hopes on a concept car design, and always watch reviews of the shipping car before forming any opinions and be sure to sit in it yourself just to double check. Re the ID.2 that’ll be 2026 before we’ll know more.

The only thing that's interesting is how the Brits pronounce it "Hy-un-die" when it should be pronounced "Hyun-DAY", which is the closest pronunciation to the original Korean pronunciation.
