    Diesel cars right from 2010 itself are highly refined engines. Tata Vista got its Fiat multijet (quadrajet) engine which is the world's best performance engine. Similarly crdi of Hyundai. Diesel cars are highly refined so that their maintenance is same as pertrol cars. Coming to starting the engine, even after 10 days if you start a diesel car you will never face any problem. I used Tata Vista diesel till 2015. Now using Swift ZDi diesel. No issues of starting. Even in the last lockdown, I left my car ideally for 1 month. After a month period also it started smoothly. The mechanic seems to be experienced with old diesel cars. The scenario is different with new ECU based diesel cars. Truely speaking, I am watching this channel regularly. I found most of the videos very informative. But this one is missleading.

      We are happy that you didn't faced as such issues in your car, but that doesn't mean what are all said in this video are fault.
      In the video, I never heard that he said all the diesel vehicles will have this issue, he did mentioned about the EMU's that are coming on the latest cars and its refinement. What he is giving here as feedback is, Don't assume a refined engine will not hurt your pocket as maintenance it is still a mandatory or necessary thing to perform maintenance...

    I don't understand why so many people blame the mechanic here. First of all, there is a difference between your bookish knowledge and his practical experience. I agree to the fact that newer diesel engines have become very refined, smooth and also quickly starting as good as petrol engines, but that does not mean what he says is wrong. He might be wrong is small details here and there but remember he is talking from his experience. Much needed video Birla Sir and Tamil Mechanic. Glad to see such wonderful automotive content in Tamil 🙏

      Everyone is commenting about his experience only i.e older diesel engines.
      we can't even compare older diesel engines and newer engines just like that.
      His views are mostly completely on Old Diesel Engine vs Older Petrol Engine.
      Newer Petrol Engine has 3 Cylinder & Turbo.. ( Vibration at Higher RPM ).. Now if you see the cost which will be cheaper?

    Half baked information....main issue is cost of ownership vs cost of running.... people who have a running on 2.5k+ km every month.... it's beneficial to get a diesel....in regular maintenance it's almost the same for petrol n diesel be it oil or filters...only extra is fuel filter change for 20k km in diesel engine....there is no need to scare people about diesel engines....enthusiasts will want to drive diesel engines or turbo petrols

    • @shnmugam01
      @shnmugam01 2 года назад +6

      I think in the very first question itself he gave this answer, the person who gonna take regular car can go for Diesel.
      As you said, if a guy gonna driver 2500+ km in a month, means at an avg 100kms per day, then he should be doing, regular checks and maintenance...
      I doesn't felt the information shared in this video is half baked or maybe your opinion is not fully cooked in this comment ;-) ...

    Turbo is not exhaust gas recirculation sir!! Simple terms of turbo explaination is - turbo helps engine to produce more power ( 1000 cc engine can work as 1200cc or more) - this is done by feeding more air into the engine using turbo- that is turbo compresses 200cc more air in 1000 cc engine and to compress this air turbo uses the exhaust pressure...turbo is not feeding exhaust air...it is only feeding fresh air by using the exhaust gas pressure (not the exhaust air) . It is an isolated system

    Comparison is not right. Comparing i10 petrol with Ford Figo Or i10 petrol with Swift Diesel make sense. Diesel engine rocks nowadays it's torque mainly. Highway+hills+ long drive= Diesel is good;
    For city use and less long distance travel petrol is better. The mechanic is well experienced for old age cars I believe like Sumo,Sierra, Ambassador, Fiat 118, Mahindra jeeps, Maruti 800. Nowadays modern Diesel car starts in a single crank if the battery is in working condition.
    Thanks for your efforts anyways. All the best.

    I think the understanding of how turbo works mentioned is wrong.
    Turbo will not re-inject the air which is already burnt. It will use the exhausted air to spin the fan on one end. The fan connected on to the other side will intake the fresh air and pass it to the engine.

    Main reason for higher maintenance in diesel engines is diesel is combustible only at higher pressures.So engine is heavier to withstand higher pressures.Vibration is also more.These result in more wear of tires and suspension components.Crdi common rail diesel injection has a diesel pump which operates at about 250 psi high pressure and so wear and tear more but has advantage of better pickup and mileage.

    Most important thing is diesel engines only relying on cylinder pressure, once the piston rings starts to worn-out engine will lose power due to compression leaks. 2nd thing our country's diesel is not clean so injector failure is inevitable. Thumb rule is if u r private user choose petrol vehicle and if u r fleet operator choose diesel. Eventually diesel cars maintenance cost is more than the fuel economy you've gained.

    இன்னும் சில விசயங்களை பற்றி தெளிவாக சொல்லி இருக்கலாம்...
    1. Importance of oil service. Min & Max duration / running Km. Type of oil etc... Some company recommend Synthetic oil is best & lasts longer upto 20,000 Km. Is it true?. For my Swift Dezire, Ambal dealer advised for synthetic oil & I agreed. When I went for attending a problem at ABT, Pollachi, another dealer, they said the oil was not synthetic. I never gone thereafter to them for service. I go for private work shop.
    2. What kind of preventive maintenance a Diesel car actually requires. Since most of the user relying on the words of mechanic, mostly they cheat...charge extra for unnecessary service or parts.
    3. How to do simple self check.
    Hope you will cover them in some other video..

    This comparison is between naturally aspirated petrol and crdi diesel, But modern petrol engines which has "direct injection" and turbo so technically this problem can happen in both (eg) Mahindra's mStallion petrol has variable valve timing,direct injection and a turbo so maintenance will be similar to diesel (apart from the diesel filter). this is similar for vw and( skoda groups petrol 1.0 tsi and 1.5 tsi had fuel pump and injecter issues in kushaq )and renault turbo engine.
    NOTE:mpfi is different from direct injection.

    As many already commented modern diesel engines after 2010 are much better compared to the facts said by the mechanic and it is maintainence is also less. but still diesel maintainence is bit higher than petrol only.

    Recently most of the OEM’s are offering even Petrol Cars with Turbo Engine, Where that will fit in maintenance.

    I think sir u have compare both diesel and petrol car which is just 1 to 3 years old. Both i10 and tata sumo is out of production or outdated engine . Please think before you post. U have so much knowledge in this field but it is very old information. Now a days diesel engine are highly refined.

    Not a great review. The mechanic clearly doesn’t know much. The newer engines are refined well with less noise levels. Comparing an old Sumo and an i10? Bad move Birla.

    Mr.Birla, looks like you are accustomed to petrol cars and always try to promote petrol cars over diesel. Modern diesel cars are super reliable and efficient with very less NVH levels. Modern diesel engines needs less maintenance too. They have better power and better efficiency. Diesel is simply a superior fuel over petrol, the world needs diesel engines. More innovation has to be put to make diesel engines eco friendly

    Explanation about turbo is wrong.....
    Turbo is used to supply more air to engine, it will not recirculate the exhaust gas. Turbo is operated by velocity of exhaust..

    Diesel engines must be run in idling for atleast 1 minute in morning cold start to enable oil circulation in all components including turbo which runs at high rpm and to raise oil temperature to operating temperatures.While stopping hot engine atleast 30secs to 1 minute idling is required to enable cooling of turbo fan which runs at high rpm or else hot oil will be converted to ash in hot turbo circulation and cause obstruction to oil flow and turbo failure in due course.

    Let's take math to figure out. For 50000km petrol cars consume 286000 rupees of fuel, diesel cars consumes 215000 fuel. Difference 71000. If injector, turbo or injection pump failed that's and additional expenses of around 50000 plus initial cost for diesel cars and it's interest. Clearly diesel cars are not makes any sense for private users.

    Birla sir, I can see your injector questions are for skoda/VW TDI customers like me😄😄 ! Such a poor reliability and high cost of replacement in short period . I own a skoda rapid TDI 1.6 and done 1,00,000 kms and have replaced injectors 6 times. I have done fuel filter replacement every 15,000 kms and serviced only in skoda till now from day 1. Can you tell me the reason for failure even after proper maintenance?

    • @nivas8634
      @nivas8634 2 года назад

      May be try using a better quality of fuel. Try using the shell diesel for a considerable amount of time and observe if you find any difference. Ensure you do a flush of fuel system before you try this.
