Vintage Toy Restoration videos are awesome, but sometimes the toy you're starting with can be pretty boring. Even with a professional restoration, bringing some old toys back to their original condition just isn't very exciting. I could have brought this old Tonka back to it's original blue, but I decided to take it another direction and finish it off with a unique paint job. Hope you enjoy, make sure to stay till the end to see the finished results... and hit the like and subscribe buttons!!!

Oh man the original blue is much better, great work anyway
Thanks! Had to try to spice it up a little, that blue was so blahhhh
I have to say, I love the new colour! Much better than the boring blue!
My grandparents had that truck at their house, but in red. Used to play with it all the time. Brought back memories.
Alex, I have a red one. It's a little rusty in spots, but I love it!
I really appreciate the slow, careful, methodical way you disassemble/reassemble the toys you restore.
Thank you!
I do like this restoration, but that gold didn’t speak out to me. Did the powder coat paint react to the metal? It appears reddish in some spots.
I used this piece to practice copper and nickel plating, Some residue may have stayed behind and caused the blotches. They looked pretty neat. So, Happy Accident as Bob Ross would say lol
TRG RESTORATION indeed
@@TRGRESTORATIONS "Make all your wheels be happy wheels!"
TRG RESTORATION “Up inside the rear panels, I imagine critters were living…”
That's interesting. A happy accident. Nice!
I absolutely agree with your sentiment about restoration and adding your own personal customization to these "toys"....that is a little personal pleasure I derive from my own work. Nice job and best wishes.
Thanks! Some need to be original, but some of the common one are begging to be different from the rest of the crowd.
This "gold" does not look like a nice color.
I like it :)
TRG RESTORATION, that’s what counts.
It’s probably a really nice colour in person.
I concur but TRG decides what to do.
That’s a shame. What color did you do yours??
I prefer the original paint scheme because it so evokes the era. What toy manufacturer would chose sky blue for a toy truck today? Now it's all pearlescent red, army green or construction vehicle yellow. A light blue is so quaint and, like the toy itself, is from another, more innocent time. Still, another great video and the sinister spider reveal at 2:39 is hysterical, much like your evil Tonka spirit reveal in an earlier video. Thanks for sharing!
Not sure I'd agree that the 1960's were an innocent time lol, but yeah most should be original. Nothing wrong with the occasional custom job though
OMG, I had that truck as a child. Such happy memories.😊
I'm more partial to Blue myself, maybe a dark blue with metal flake, but it looks good as new and that is what really matters.
Cool, Thanks for watching! The next custom I do is going to be sort of dark bluish.
My favorite part about these videos is when I see old new paint under rusty exterior parts it just shows you how much a toy has aged great video TRG
Me too, it's a pretty cool reveal to find that one clean spot in it's original colors.
There is something zen about sandblasting.
It's definitely the most popular part!
Love the kid's cheer when it came time for sandblasting - that's my favorite part too!
Some people actually complain about it. Don't care though, it's kinda become my thing lol
@@TRGRESTORATIONS makes me smile , haters gonna hate🤷♀️
The sandblasting is emotionally satisfying. I see an old rusty thing covered with dust and dirt and the sandblaster just makes it disappear. When the last bit of the old is gone, then I can relax lol.
A restoration is a restoration. This is artistic license.
Don't matter what anyone else thinks, you made it your own. Good job.
Out of curiosity what made you go with that color scheme? Why didn’t you go with the original one?
Just felt like mixing it up a little bit. The blue was a little boring.
TRG RESTORATION awesome. Don’t get me wrong it looks good.
I myself appreciate different color schemes.
I gotta say, I like how it turned out, it actually looks like a custom paint job you would see on the street.
Nice restoration! Love the chrome, but I’m not a fan of the gold (never been a gold person). Fantastic work!
Thought about doing the whole thing in chrome. Maybe next time.
I had one of these back in the 60's. My mother helped me paint because the paint was coming off. It was white.
First truck I ever owned was a 64 Jeep Gladiator, same color blue that you started with, wish I still had the truck. Would have loved to give it that paint job you did.
I'm so impatient I kept skipping ahead to see the final result, but ended up curious about each step and rewatched everything!! end result looks amazing, love the colors
I like Tonka, man.
Thanks!
I like the gold and chrome color combo and I think it turned out GREAT all around !! The kids cheering when it's media blast time NEVER gets old. It always make me smile and laugh !!
I would have enjoyed seeing the spider sandblasted to bits.
What can one say ?
SOO KOOOOOLLLL OMG !
Mike Espo ........
Thanks!
Spider bit with music ..crazy funny😄
lol thanks!
2:39 my favorite part on this one
Music of that moment?
@@rodriemeritus2214 yes!~ the horror music that came with the dead spider!
@@yonkersguy aah ¿you know the name of horror music? 😅
mine too, as long as it's dead!
Good job. Copper gold is a good choice of color. Well done.
Sometimes I read the comments before I watch the videos, this time I wanted to see what the whole deal was about the paint job, all in all I think it looks pretty cool, love the cheering section for the sandblasting lol!
That Jeep pickup came as a set with a horse trailer and horses. Would be cool to see someone restore a full set. I’ve seen them on eBay for $300-$600 and up.
That chrome looked amazing! Great job!
Nicely done, sir.
Thank You!
Love the new paint job! 😎
Thank you!
Brilliant, well done as always. I had a1963 Jeep Pickup red in color. Overhead cam 6 cyc.. Good Truck.
Thanks!
Like the off the hook color very different but really nice look. Thank you for your time trying out new ideas from past colors.🗣️🎉
Gotta love that super color scheme of the body Tim, and the chrome areas really pop. I subscribed to your channel about a week ago and during quarantine I've been binge watching your previous videos. I really enjoy your craftsmanship. 👍🍻
This kind of looks like the truck Val and Earl had in the movie Tremors, although theirs looks more like the "before" condition. That Brassy Gold colour is a trip.
As I do like how it came out I would be careful as to how you choose your colors. Some Tonka truck are collectable and can bring a nice value to them. I would have went with the same blue color as that paint selection wasn't available. Not sure about this particular truck but I know some of the ones I had as a kid are somewhat valuble now and kick myself for not keeping them.
Some of them can be, but for the most part models like this are a dime a dozen. Un-restored its worth abut $30, Restored it's worth around $70, and new in the box it's worth about $120.
@@TRGRESTORATIONS Damn - I'm not going to be rich from my box of old trucks!
steady on son, you must be some sort of maverick in the "restoring world", changing the colour like that. beautiful job by the way, love that finish.
Thanks! Gotta be a little different sometimes to stand out.
Good Restoration Done 👍
Thumbs up 👍
👏 👏
Thanks!
Not so sure about colours. Some footage out in the sunlight might've worked better with the shinyness :) BTW, where do you source your spares from? I'm starting to get some old "Buddy L" trucks from my Dad and some things like tyres have split.
Ebay mostly. Gasolinealleytoys.com has a lot of good stuff too. Sometimes to find the right part, you'll have to hunt around and find a part vehicle.
Dude, easiest my favorite Tonka restoration! And the paint job is awesome. 🔥🙏🏼
FANTASTIC color combination!
Thanks!
I loved my Tonka Jeep trucks as a kid. I had that pickup, and a black Wagoneer.
Absolutely amazing restoration job. xxx
Thanks!
Very Nice 👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks!
Ottimo lavoro, complimenti bravissimo!!!!!
Thanks for watching!
Cool color scheme. I like it. That will make a great birthday gift for someone grandson.
Thanks!
Great job ,I like some Jeeps
Thanks 👍
You did an awesome job restoring the Jeep J10.
Thanks!
unbelievable indeed, and that chrome job is even better
Thanks!
That color is awesome! Nice restoration!
The gold looks like wood grain, nice.
I applaud your color selection. Well done, sir.
Thank you!
I know it's not everybody's cup of tea, but I like the paint job.
Thanks!
Va a quedar bonita la camioneta Jeep Wagoneer J10 pickup saludos
¡gracias por ver!
excellent result 😎👍
Thanks for watching!
Sweet restoration. Nice colors.
I personally like the Custom paint job you did on this... Something different...
Thanks! They're pretty common, so I think a few of them need to be custom
Yes. Nice color choise.
That's awesome and bad ass! Didn't know that you could get powder coat that looked like that! It kinda gives it that rusty patina look, too bad the you couldn't have gotten a chrome color like that for the roof and tailgate.
Hell yea badass restoration👍👍
Thanks for watching! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
The gold is weird, but good weird. Outside the box and pretty cool looking. I think it’s just hard for people to accept because it wasn’t a normal color back then. But man you do good work!
That spider was so dead. I'd bet it died when Spaceballs came out.
Awesome restoration!!!!!!!!!!!
Very nice work. Not my choice for color scheme but still... a job well done. Thanks for the video.
Thank You!
Cool color looks awesome
Thanks!
He is amazing. It looks so good.
Thanks for watching!
what modes if any did you do to your sandblaster for it to work so well and be so clear?
a lot of mods. To get the clarity you'll need a good dust collection system, and most importantly, I change the glass for each video.
@@TRGRESTORATIONS ohhh. Now, by change the glass, do you mean the plastic cling window thingies? I'm sorry I don't know the name of the stuff that protects the glass.
Love that color on the body. Almost looks like a wood
it did end up with a wood grain look, Thanks for watching!
Looks great finally someone has decided to customize one instead of sticking to original I know they're worth alot staying original but I'm thinking that it's possibly considerably less even restored back to original so why not go custom every so often
That is true, restored back to original specifications is still not considered to be "original" it's "restored" in terms of assigning value.
It can go either way. A restored one is only going to be worth so much. But if a collector like the customization, it can be worth a lot more.
That is also true @TRG. And like the saying goes "Everything is worth what someone is willing to pay for it"
Very nice, love the colors
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome Work. Much better than the blue one. 💪😃👍
The shape of that Tonka makes me think of the Jeep Gladiator made by Matchbox...
Awesome I like the new color
Thanks! Me Too!
I like the new colors. Would the tires have looked the same if you had soaked the in soap and water to clean them?
I've tried soaking them overnight before, doesn't seem to help any more.
Looks great! Love the new color and the crome!
I like it I think the gold is cool looking gives it character
Thanks!
Lovely job there mate
Thank You!
Great work as usual.
Give it a nice paint Job
That’s a sweet ride man! 👍🏽
Great job man
Thanks!
Another great restoration, though the gold isn't for me. Back in the 70's we inherited an old mint green Jeep pickup from my FIL, it was a rustbucket by then from many beach fishing and camping trips, but was still great for local outdoor adventures. Good memories.
Would love to have a real life version!
Hi TRG 👋👋👋 good to see you 🤝🤝🤝 very good restoration Toy Pickup 👍👍👍color matched beautiful 🔥💣👌🏽
Thanks!
I love this Tonka Jeep Gladiator ... Can you show for us what kind of rivet you use ? (Sorry for my bad english)
Reading the comments as I'm watching, a lot of people are saying how horrible the colour is. Thinking oh no i bet its crap...No i love it what a great restoration..👍🇬🇧
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Even if they're wrong lol. Thanks for watching!
great video. What size compressor do you need to do the sandblasting?
Nice have you ever do 2 tones or rhino line the inside bed
The irony is that it looks more like my dad's 72 Chevy C10 than a Kaiser Jeep J2000/J4000/Gladiator
I liked the blue better
Очень хорошо!!! Прелесть просто! Отлично!
Thanks!
Neat color choice!
Thanks!
I have this one in canadian version with the horse trailer
Nice color great work
Thanks!
Woooooo😯⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐😎👍
Thanks for watching!
I have a Tonka Tow truck that I would like to get done. Who would you Recommend?
Great Job @TRG RESTORATION
I have the same truck but missing the grill/bumper piece. Any idea where I can get one?
I thought you will add black side stripes but ok. :D
Thank you.
Nice custom-restoration. I like the new color but it looks much more like a dark brown then golden..
Thanks! It's sold as Brassy Gold, but definitely came out a darker bronze color
Couldn't get the Tonka stickers ordered? Great restore and the drama with the spider lol I was thinking if you ordered new headlights avid yes you did awesome job
I have tons of the Tonka decals, don't think they would have looked right with those colors though. Some silver of chrome ones maybe, haven't seen any of those though
