First of all, let me just say that I bought a used 2018 EcoBoost in February and it is the best ride I have ever owned. I watched this video this past winter before pulling the trigger and you sold me. I was going to buy a 2021 Camaro and didn't want a used anything...but this car just has what I need. Looks good, can get up and go, quick, fast, and in a hurry, and the driving experience is a delight. Thanks for sharing!

I have had my share of V8 muscle cars in my day. 1969 Roadrunner 383, 1969 Charger 440 SE, 1972 Chevy Malibu, and 1971 Mustang 351. This time I decided to try a 4 cylinder turbo so I went with the 2017 Mustang ecoboost premium with the performance package. I haven't had it long (bought it new in November and only put 700 miles on it so far) but what a fun car to drive. I love the performance and definitely enjoy the mileage per gallon. The styling inside and out is stunning. I would have purchased the 22018, but the Christmas sale incentives for the 2017s were too hard to pass up. The cashback, military discount, and the zero percent interest convinced me to get the 2017. So far, this is the best car I have ever owned. I am so happy to be back in a Mustang. It has always been my favorite car since in first came out. Nice review on the 2018. Thumbs-up on the video.

I bought a 16 Eco-boost, option package 100A... as base as you can get. Yes, I could have bought a GT, but as my car is just a car for cruises and car shows, I wanted something different. I have upgraded the car with Navigation and a ROUSH Power Pac level 2. The ROUSH kit pumped things up to 370hp. The car is a blast! perfectly balanced and really loves twisty roads.

Down under here (Australia). Ford nailed it by only offering a single model the Performance Package and you get to choose GT or EcoBoost. This makes it simple and easy to choose as opposed to over 8 models in Ford Escape for example which makes it confusing to choose.

When folks say it isn't a Mustang without a V8 they forget the history of the Mustang. Past Mustangs have offered 4 cyclinders. The Mustang II Ghia back in the 70s when fuel was hard to get wasn't a powerful car. I had a 4 on the floor 6 cyclinder 1974 Mustang. It wasn't powerful like today's cars but it had the Mustang's good looks. Ford sold a ton of them and it kept the Mustang alive. The EcoBoost is more powerful than past Mustangs. There were many years when 310 hp would have been fantastic. As a teenager in the 60's when the Mustang first appeared I fell in love with its looks. I love all Mustangs. Thankfully Ford offers choices and options for Mustang lovers.

Screen size is terrible if you're used to larger displays and Android Auto or Apple Car Play. Once you've had them it's tough to go to the smaller display. For those features you have to go premium with the Mustangs. You're talking about adding a few grand. As for the Ecoboost, the engine sounds bad when revving parked but didn't sound too driving. As for the GT enough said.

    • @RaitisRides

I think "Base" is a great description when you compare it to the "Premium":
    1. Cloth seats vs Leather heated / cooled seats.
    2. 4" non-touchscreen "infotainment" system vs the 8" sync 3 touchscreen setup - probably the best in the industry.
    3. Selectable drive modes in the premium, not available in the base - HUGE
    4. Better audio system in the premium as standard.

I have to say, the ecoboost is still an awesome engine. It does not make all the noise of the GT, but it is a TURBOCHARGED 2.3 liter. It definitely feels like a sportscar. Also, if you want the base (Ecoboost Fastback), then I recommend getting the Wheel and Stripe package. The 19 inch wheel makes a total difference in the look for a modest increase in price.

Great review. Both Mustangs look fantastic and the only issue for me is the sound from that ecoboost engine. It sounds too much like a small cheap econo box engine like in a Fiesta. Ford should work on that because the 5.0 sounds so brawny and mean and the difference in exhaust sounds is too great imo. Can Ford add an exhaust sound to that ecoboost Mustang from a Focus ST/RS or maybe even a Fiesta ST maybe?

Ford bundles everything. You have to get the BLIS system to get cross traffic and adaptive cruise. I think you also need that package to get the electronic guages and the large head unit.
If only Ford sold those options ala carte...
It's good to see Mustang fixed the facia. I think it was the 2017 model that looked like the car was frowning or sad.
What's the point of getting a Mustang if you're not getting the GT? The same goes for buying the automatic. A Mustang should have a manual transmission. Period. (The exception is if you have lost an arm or leg and physically can't drive a stick.)
The EcoBoost sounded like crap. And even that engine noise is fake. There's a fuse that if you pull it, the sound is EVEN WORSE. The 4-cyl horsepower would be good for a Ricer, not a Mustang.
If you're worried about economy and mileage, you shouldn't be driving a Mustang. Get a Nissan Altima (or a like car.)

    • @triggr74
      @triggr74 6 лет назад +11

@@pjamese3 why does it have to be a GT and why does it have to be a manual transmission? Just cause you say so? SMH. I'm over a big engine. I don't race, i don't give a flying f to impress anybody, and I love that new body style. OK on gas, and still has good horse power, enough to pass and enter freeways at a good speed. I'm tired of reading all this stupid comments. Did Ford make a rule stating that if it was not a GT or manual transmission, it shouldn't be called a mustang? Give me a break. Good that you like the bigger engine. Good that you like the manual transmission. But if someone doesn't and still wants to buy this car, guess what? Its still a Mustang.

    • @pjamese3
      @pjamese3 6 лет назад +1

The GT isn't to impress anybody. It's because I like it. As do many old-school Mustang fans. Same with the manual transmission. I don't know about Millenials, but to most car fans my age, Mustang means a big, powerful engine and throwing the stick. An automatic transmission just feels like your playing a video game.
"enough to pass and enter freeways at a good speed"
That's faint praise. My wife's 4-cylinder Nissan Altima can pass and enter freeways at a good speed.
I'm not saying the only Mustang is the 6--speed GT. I'm just saying that the 4-cylinder ones are lesser Mustangs. Accept that. The only edge the Ecoboost has over the GT is that the gas mileage is better. Last I checked, that wasn't the main reason to buy a Mustang. You might as well get some "peppy" car from Mazda.

pjamese3 xD you are a sad sad individual, you claim to be a "mustang fan" yet you cant accept that not everyone can afford the GT the mustang always stood for affordable performance, the ecoboost is just that. we no longer live in those times when the cool thing was big v8s, times changed gas is expensive and most want a mustang because, either the love how they look but dont need a 400+ horsepower. or they have deep pockets and actually race them. or you are just that stereotypical "mustang guy"

70 and 71 where different styles. I like the video as I am torn between the Ecoboost and GT. To me, the slight improvement in performance of the V8 isnt worth the extra 20 grand + difference in price. and at $.50+ a gallon of gas in CA, Ill go Ecoboost. The V8 rumble will be missed

I could'a had a V-8? (Remember this phrase... I hear it all the time from friends who own 'ecoboost' Mustangs).
Believe me... the money you save won't seem like such a big deal after a few months. Matter fact if Ford didn't build th V-8 mustang - the eco-boost would be a "Great Car - all by itself" - except... They do make the V-8 Mustang and they make so many of them.
First thing people will ask you, after telling you what a nice car you have...Is this the a V-8 or a turbo 4? Well, its nice anyway.

Any time you talk to a (work on commission) car salesman...they will try to work on your pride or whatever the dealership is giving bonuses on, to move iron off the floor.
Stick to your budget, your needs or your requirements... "Cause - when push comes to shove, you will be the one making the payments, the one 'folding' yourself into those bucket seats.
My Mustangs are my personal pleasure. All I want "my Mustang" to do is - make me smile, when I go for a drive.
I have always bought mustangs which are the lightest, cheapest model they have when I go shopping. I had a salesman, years ago, who walked away when I insisted on a "base model"... with only 3 requirements - which I thought were non-negotiable. I was a young serviceman at the time, the salesman - didn't listen to me...ran my credit and proceeded to show me a top-of-the-line "panty dropper", gaudy car way out of my requirements. So I just walked over and found the exact car "I" wanted... then stood beside it and waited for an interested salesman, who would write up the paperwork!
After about 30 minutes of waiting - the Dealership "Fleet salesman" asked if I was being helped? "nope, the guy who was helping left.
We went over to his office, he wrote up the papers, gave me all the discounts, got the car prepped.
about this time... In comes the first sales guy and he's telling me ... I see you are getting the base, "stripper model" ... as he turned to leave. I don't know what he was trying to say or who his comment was drected at...but the fleet guy turned "Cherry red", and started cussing at the other guy.
I didn't really care, all that much but I did appreciate his help in getting me the car ... That "I" wanted... nothing more, nothing less - no BS or add-ons.
even better - it was an "All cash deal", since I already had my financing set up... It don't pay to screw with customers who Know what they want!

    Well I could get a 4s 0-60 GT or the 5s 0-60 Eco 🤔
Eco 100% you can go faster in a GT *BUT* you're faster with the eco boost most of the time.
You can fill the Eco on 87 and stomp at every red light and still get 20mpg. Stomp a GT on 93 and you're bleed cash out the wazzu. Smiles per gallon is what matters. 240whp is all you need. (Just a guess on 87)

Audie Arce the v8 does have a nice growl. The 2.3 ecoboost has been around for a few years now. I haven’t heard of any major issues. The only thing is on some Focus RS models the wrong head gasket was installed. There is a recall out to fix those affected.

As for the engine ask yourself this: This engine powers focus, fusion, eco sport even an F150. Still not convinced you may want to look which engine powers the Ford GT. Fords super car. Nope not a V8 or a V12 it’s an EcoBoost V6 with twin turbos.

The Mustang has one Motor now the 5.0 V8 GT. Anyone who buys a 2.3 4 cylinder EcoBoost is mentally challenged, just ask any Ford Tech what Motor they would purchase is sure wouldn't be a stressed out 4 cylinder, how can these guys even compare the two without laughing their asses off. Just the Depreciation of the 4 cylinder Pig should give anyone pause, you won't be able to give these things away after 5 years or 50,000 miles. Buy a Mustang and Buy a tried and true V8, a Car you can drive for the entire Life Cycle of the Vehicle with just normal Maintenance requirements (except for the 10 speed Tranny Jury is still out on it) Remember they are still to get a decent Mustang with good handling you are going to pay close to 40,000 for a 4 cylinder bite the Bullet go V8.

I bought a pp 2016 ecoboost for 13k and dumped 5k of mods in it. It goes as fast as a gt and where I live a pp gt is 28-32k. To each their own, but I was the looking to spend 10k extra to have a badge that gets teenage boys wet😂

The two things I do not like about the eccoboost is it came out in 2015. What I mean is, when it came out it had 310hp and a good amount of tq to match it. The took power away from the v6 to boost it sales. Then they kill off the v6 you would think the 17 would have more hp. Nope they add a tad not a lot a little drop of tq and the SAME hp from 15. So you kill the v6 and have the mind set yay we do not need to add power to this now turd. Yes when you do what Ford did with the cars it now is a turd.
2018 comes around the GT now had even more power and tq. No v6 what does this turd have 310 and a drop of extra tq. Fuck the 4. When it came out it was a nice option. Ford has turned the 4 into the turd of the Mustang family. If you are going to keep treating it like this bring the damn 6 back. You get a v6 right with the 3.7 and then run with this turd. Fuck this car. If it had more power AND MORE tq not this let us add drops at a time of tq to it it would be a nice car.
The second thing I hate about the 4, is the fact without the power why the hell did ford slap the 10 speed on it! I have seen all the reviews on it and they all say the same thing. It has no clue what to do with the 10 speed. It is a mess, and ford really fucked up. Either bring back the v6 or give this turd MORE power. Now going into the 219 this thing should be ushing 370 or 380. NOPE what does it have 310 with a 10 speed that cannot do anything with the crap power. Either boost the car or junk it and bring the 6 back and make it the low end of the rung the 6 mid rung and GT to of it

The 10 Speed works better in the EcoBoost. It keeps it in boost and it's way more important on the EcoBoost than the GT. Also the EcoBoost makes more torque per liter than a GT.

Mustang's have always had a lower power option than the v8. The first mustang was an inline 6. The ecoboost has similar power to the 2010 GT. I don't really get your logic about it being a fraud.
