- As Manipur heads into the first phase of the Lok Sabha election in the shadow of an ethnic conflict, the two communities involved in the conflict - the Kuki-Zo people and the Meitei people - find themselves in a peculiar situation.
In the first phase on April 19, most of the violence-affected parts of the State go to the polls. These include all of the Inner Manipur constituency, which covers Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, and Thoubal districts having a largely Meitei population, and large parts of the Outer Manipur constituency (ST) covering Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Chandel with a majority Kuki-Zo population.
Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, the Congress candidate from Inner Manipur, talks to Abhinay Lakshman on what he plans to do for the constituency.

But why blame the BJP when what's happening in Manipur is the handiwork of Congress in that it signed SoO agreement and created new districts in the State which strengthened Chin-Kuki-Zo hold on the State and enabled this community to make their separatist demand? It's the BJP's misfortune that it has to deal with the consequences of questionable Congress policies and misdeeds.

Correspondents from The Hindu newspaper should cover the flattening of the Meetei colonies in Churanchanpur, and should prove that the genocide is being carried out NOT BY MEITEIS but by the Kuki community against the Meitei .They should prove to the world that Kukis are playing the victim card in the name of minority and the present chaos is NEVER related to Meitei demanding for their constitutional protections .

They showed only the BJP government wants to show the nation like tribal minorities suppressed by Majority meiteis and religion basis which is far from the truth. Genocide of Meiteis and ethnic cleansing of Meitei happened in Curchandpur and moreh. But the kukis and BJP government didn't showed/reported those in national media.

Meiteis are the only citizens in india paying multiple taxes above the legal govt taxes.......multiple illegal taxes on highways so called illegal extortions by millitant infested highways lifelines of the state both from groups those who r in talks with the Indian authority like the SoO kuki millitants as well as those not in talks since time immemorial and these sufferings remain as chronic infestation for long without any positive intervention from the govt till now as if the Indian authority has legalized these extortion as taxes........biggest blunder is we are forced to feed them with this extortions and in return they fire on us Civilians .....and we r still accepting it with silence

One of the major reason for this war is that every tribals(Including Naga) were under Manipur King. Meitei king was the ruler of whole Manipur . But as it was natural for the past conquest era , these tribals were sometimes put under Meitei King by force and let them pay tax and sometimes with friendliness .Meitei itself is a mixture of many tribals . But Meiteis are able to unite themselves culturally and in mentally while other tribes were seperated first by religious practice of untouchability (since Meiteis turn themselves into hinduism) and then by the British as a subordinate of Meitei king(terminologically only, but British were more powerful) ruled the hills and let Meitei king rule the valley to divide . Since, from the begenning , we were not united mentally and culturally , the British can easily manipulate them . Now , as a result ,we see each other differently and they want seperate administration.

@@danzone8670 after commotion broke up in kangvai people came with guns only if you let the raply be just a rally it would have been done with that but u all had to unnecessarily come and create trouble. Meiteis has been eyeing on tribal lands for a long time already which is the root cause of the problem. Thats what happens when you try to steal what's not yours.

There were more kuki villages in Imphal as compared to meitei villages in churchandpur, Kangpokpi or Tengnoupal so who is more greedy in grabbing land? Meitei are not blaming the whole kukis but those illegal kuki coming from Myanmar. They were creating problems in Manipur. If you are a true native then try to understand and don't let those illegal kukis grab your land/facilities/quotas from your own pocket.
