Please make a series called ‘cheapo fillipo’ where we get reviews of depreciated vehicles that offer great all around value. (If fillipo is okay with that branding lol)
i wanna see Fillipo review the gen 1 Twingo
Early Hoovie's Garage but without the hoopties.
Great idea 👍🏻
And then watch the search trends for the cars to spike after the video LMAO
Omg Cheapo Filipo
Big fan of Cheapo Fillipo. He speaks to me
agreed
What he be saying?
@@davidbennett5424true things
😅I'm starting to wonder if MAYBE I just enjoy Car Reviews in general. Like...full stop. I enjoyed Doug, I liked the others...I saw Marques do it well and Tyler, CarWow, Donut and Top Gear obviously...maybe I just enjoy people reviewing cars.
@@davidbennett5424 he's a car guy that's also big on financial responsibility. Most car guys are terrible with money so Fillipo's perspective is really refreshing and relatable.
“Filippo Investigates” Congratulations, Cars and Bids. You’ve just stumbled upon a great title for a recurring series.
Cheapo Fillipo Investigates
Filippo investigates the dark web
Doug teases Filippo too much about his limited high end exotics knowledge. Here we have proof that Filippo is actually the most relatable everyman enthusiast. In a hobby typically ruled by irrational emotion and pursuits of unreasonable speed, Filippo is refreshingly pragmatic.
I might even argue that Doug’s enthusiasm for the older, cheaper, slower Countach (vs the CGT) is actually Filippo’s practical side rubbing off on Doug. That, or it’s the Italian. 😉
Also Abarth 500 isn't bad car to own, you have to be car enthusiast to own one because otherwise you probably wouldn't even know how different it is
Okay Doug, been watching your videos since Jalopnik days, who knew you had such a good hat-trick hiding in your back pocket like Cheapo-Fillipo!!! We all need more Fillipo!
Liking the fillipo vids!
My favorite new series Doug should stay on vacation forever 🤣
Fillipo keeps talking about wanting similar but a convertible, but instead of saying "Boxster", he says "911". Check out a Boxster!!!!!
Because he also mentioned that he needs backseats, though the 911 backseats aren’t intended to seat two more actual adults.
I love how Fillipo is experiencing everything for the first time. It's really refreshing to see someone experiencing something for the first time. From corvette to prosche 2 completely different experiences and it's nice to see how Fillipo has different emotions about the 2 cars. Great content!
If only there was a convertible version of the Cayman for Filipo to consider.
This is the kind of car video that is actually useful to most of us average car enthusiasts/owners. Well done.
Filippo the type of guy who considers a mid-engine Porsche for his pizza to stay warm.
Get the Cayman! I love my 987.1 Cayman S. You're right that the base model has less of a chance of bore scoring. Find out why by watching the 4-part series on bore scoring on the PCA RUclips channel. I recently installed the PCCM+ made by Porsche Classic, purchased through sun coast parts. Installed myself. Now I have a much better head unit with Apple car play. Anytime I see a 987 on the road, I know that's an enthusiast. You don't accidentally find yourself owning a 987. Find one with the sport seats. They are better than the standard seat you're sitting in.
Problem is IF bore scoring it does happen, is another Cayman’s worth of a cost to fix. Basically, you loose a 20k car without insurance to back you up. They should cost 10k on a good day just for risk of it.
just find 2009+ facelift cars)
@@silhouette300 I know someone with a 987.2 that needed a new engine due to oblong cylinders. Every car has its issues and every engine can fail. If you can't stomach the possibility of it happening you shouldn't buy a used luxury car.
@@kimchee411of course, but in my country like 80% of 996 997 987 NA cars have scoring in cylinder, for 987.2 problems with engine much rarer. Same on 997.2. Problems could be with early PDK gearboxes. Better buy 2011-2012 cars
I have a 2012 Cayman 987.2 base for around 2 and a half years now, and it's by far the best car i've owned. The handling, the torque, the everyday usability with the storage space, and even the quirky stuff like the pop-out cupholders, it's excellent.
The facelifted interior in the 987.2s and Porsches after 2009 in general also look fantastic, taking away the absolutely cluster of buttons and streamlined it alot more, making it feel alot more driver focused. It ain't luxurious, you're certainly reminded it's a sport car. But it's a really comfortable cabin to be in, atleast in my opinion.
Regardless of whether you get a 987.1 or .2, if you get one, I hope Filipo finds it to be a super enjoyable experience. I love Porsche, I love 911s, but Caymans are an absolute steal for what you get out of them.
Best $20k used car, best $150k sports car, cayman is the answer
Great owner instructing Filipo to drive it hard!!! Especially on this car, that’s when it shines!
Joe average doesn’t know the difference between a CGT and a Boxster
If there was ever a doubt as to Fillipo’s nationality, the hand gestures WHILST DRIVING are crazy!
Loving the content. Man is a natural
Definitely looked like you liked the Corvette better
Yes. Yes it is. All the 6 cylinder caymans are amazing. 981 flashed to gt3 steering is the sweet spot. Even the 4 cylinder’s are fun and fast! Mid engine Porsches are the best. 914s and Caymans are underrated and usually undervalued because of the 911.
That 836hp Corvette for 40k - wow.
yes. it is.
After this video they will no longer be under $20k on Cars and Bids
Maybe not. Currently Cars and Bids videos don't get the kind of views that the main channel gets.
base c6 manuals go for around 20k. Better deal I think. That's my bias towards V8s though. Early Caymans are super nice as well and it's all based on preference
Or get the z06 for not much more. Aluminum frame carbon fenders wider track width more muscled body. More power better brakes etc etc etc
@@mr.lowslow7702 All C6s have an aluminum chassis. It was the C5 that differed from the Z06 chassis. Having owned a C5, C6 (LS3) and 987.1, I would take the Cayman any day. The base Cayman is not Corvette fast but has usable power. I was always too scared to push my C6 on a mountain run, but not the Cayman. And at the end of the day, a base Corvette will not how value like a base Porsche. Plus a base Cayman has a nicer interior and finish than a 1LT or 2LT Corvette.
@@isreyjr7201 You might want to do some of your own fact checking about the Corvette frame materials before correcting people. mr.lowslow is right.
Filipo would need the C7 to get near the base Cayman build quality, anyway.
I stand corrected on the build material it is steel for the base models.
Fillipo is the jam at these drives. Keep it up gents.
Fridays with Filippo!! I’m starting to love these. I hope he keeps doing them, even if he does eventually buy something… which is highly unlikely!!
Commenters, you know it's possible not to pick sides between people on Cars and Bids, and just enjoy the (free) content?
I like all of the presenters - variety is a good thing.
Great video, Filipio. I enjoyed all of it and was far more relatable than most reviews.
I love how Fillipo spends half the video comparing the porche to his fiat 😂
LOL the intro was great
This series is great, please keep it going!
Absolutely loving Filippo content! Keep it up
Great video! I'm looking forward to future videos as you figure out what you would like to buy next. One thought: Have you considered a Panamera? Four seats, a very roomy and practical hatch, but still fun, sporty, and I see many used in great shape for very good prices.
Great vid and review. 10/10 👍
Filippo is the new star of the channel. Relatable and genuine.
You’ve convinced me! Great video by Filipo!
Great car review!
GORGEOUS car - those rollers from the rear 3/4 are actually breathtaking. I love that color.
Awesome content, Filippo provides a great POV and is a natural storyteller
great video, we need more of Filippo
Really like this porsche the color and quite a bargain given its a Porsche even with that mileage.
Fillipo is definitely more of a natural behind the camera, and I love the use of different camera angles.Glad to see he's getting good feedback. Felt more like Jay Leno from a video perspective, which is also refreshing. Hopefully, he can get a camera mounted in the back so we get to see different angles, especially out the front screen.
Definitely onto something with buying cheaper cars and looking for an affordable bargain.
Big fan of Filippo's videos! He's incredibly relatable.
Great video guys, but please work on the audio levels for next time. Audio was low, got loud, got low, etc.
Filippo's the type of guy to redline his coworker's Porsche while merging.
Great video
I've been saying for years that the Cayman/Boxster is the best sports car platform on the planet. Literally the only thing holding Porsche back from making it better than the 911 is the fact that 911 owners would lose their mind if they made a car that was better. If porsche gave the the cayman/boxster the 911's engine, and improved suspension, it would be better than the 911 in literally every way.
More Filippo please! Have him review cars going for sale on carsandbids too since I like this style and video format too.
incredible color too btw, love that!
Thanks Filippo. I've had my eye on one of these too. This helped me consider the 987. This one sounds wonderful. I can see the fun on mountain roads and even around town. Watch Out Doug, Filippo has game.
I have owned a base 987.1 for around a year now and absolutely love it. I have done multiple road trips, including a trip to Nurburgring and some track days and haven’t had any major problems. I can highly recommend getting one.
Fillipo you are the man, "camera crews" all around you, Doug does not🤣 Great video
Filippo is the best!!
This actually was a fantastic review of this car
Can't wait to see what you actually get.
Thumbs up for the pizza outro alone lol.
I bet the pizza place liked the (plug) advertisement spot.
As a valet I got to drive many 911s as well as various other porsche models, and a slightly tuned caymen is the only one I still think about. It was a great car.
Definitely interested in seeing the final choice 😁
More of these, please.
The SL55 AMG next!
Can't wait for more pizza reviews with Filipo!
I like this segment
Yes!! We need more filipo even after buys his sports car. Missed the Costco practicality test today tho.
I absolutely LOVE the color on this one.
Love the Cheapo Fillipo vids. For this question of sporty, convertible and 4 seater e46 M3 or E93 M3 are the only choices, surely...
Really enjoyed this review with the cheap man. More of this
Filippo, there's actually a new Porsche infotainment system, from Porsche, for both the 996 and 997 911, 986 Boxster, and 987 Boxster and Cayman. Plug and play, with a nice new responsive screen, CarPlay, etc.
How much is it?
@@MrJeepmarine$1500. Its called PCCM+ Plus. You can connect a backup camera as well.
Cars & Bids is setting up a series of C7 videos.
Filippo offers a great view on these cars, he seems like a regular, down to earth and relatable guy. Doug and Kennan are amazing, but its hard to relate with Ferrari or Carrera GT ownership 😂
Not a fan of the exhaust but man do I love a Cayman. To me they look so much better than a 911. Plus the driving experience speaks for itself.
Do these have more legroom that the Boxster? I looked at a 987 Boxster a few years ago and it doesn't have enough legroom, I'm 6'5".
I wonder about that too. I am 6'4" and tried a Boxster a few years ago. I could barely get my leg wrapped around the steering wheel and my knees were hitting the wheel when driving. Also the ceiling was too low. Gave me NA Miata vibes, which I also do not fit in at all.
Cheapo Filippo needs his own eponymous channel.
I don’t comment on videos too much but I’d just like to say that Filippo is excellent and should keep doing stuff like this after he buys his sports car!
Beautiful cars.
2008 Cayman base owner here, loving the Porsche. Came from a s2000 so somewhat missing the rawness of the Honda. Biggest issue I have is the tc/psm activating coming out of slower corners, even with it shut off. I autocross the car and can't really get the rear loose on slow corners. I think it activates the brakes and cuts power. Car does not have sport chrono so wonder if that would help. Tried searching the Internet for options but not much luck (disabling yaw sensor to kill psm does not solve issue). If anyone has solutions please let me know!
I was talking to an experienced Porsche mechanic while I was considering a 996 911 vs a 987.1 Cayman… and he said that at that price, he recommended the 987.1 by far. IMS may be exaggerated but he said why chance it…
I have had two base 987.2 manuals and now own a 981 base PDK. All amazing cars. But I think the 981 might be the better car. The stock cable operated manual gearbox felt pretty sloppy on the 987. The seating position also feels much nicer on the 981. 981 seems to be aging well too.
The boot however on the 987 is bigger and fits golf bags easier. But these are nitpicks. All generations are excellent.
Cheapo Filippo is my spirit animal.
this is the one filipo
Fillipo, you should totally test drive a nice example C5. Just bought a manual one with 25k miles as my new daily and it’s surprisingly comfortable inside. The ride quality is amazing too. I don’t think the interior is as bad as people say (maybe mines just in much better condition). They also drive so amazingly well. The convertible aspect and gas mileage is awesome too!
First time I drove a 987 it was simply the more exciting version of my 2002 5-speed Honda Civic, which is exactly what I was looking for. Love it.
If you’re tall (6’5”+) make sure you sit in it. I can fit at that height and is fine for around town, but a 997 911 has more room if you need to commute in it.
This is great to hear I'm at the same height and was curious. Unlike 996 which I don't fit, the 997.1 or 2 are glorious in terms of seating position and space for tall drivers. In that regard 981 Cayman or Boxsters seem roomier than 982 oddly.
2015 Mustang gt convertable. thats what you need. back seat, tons of torque, manual. great sound. so what its not german. your wife will be happy and you will have a smile on your face when you drive it.
Fillipo should get his own series : Testing cars . I’d love to see him in a McLaren P1 GTR just ripping it 😂😂
996.1 manual c2 cab, you will love it and it will give you very similar feels as a covertible and +2 seats with more power, more room to red line, throw in fister exhausts/gundo hack and a wind deflector and youre golden. 996 is much more fully depreciated and even going up or at least holding value. 987 cayman is great and a 987 cayman S is one of the best track cars but as a top down gt cruiser and what you seem to like the 996 is for you.
21:23 nice save Fillipo 😂
Filippo, this is your car. Or a Boxster. (And maybe an S.) Just don't see you buying a Corvette.
EDIT: I've changed my mind. You should have got the 836hp Corvette for $40k. Living in the UK, you can only dream of that kind of cheap power.
Kennan, the car you want is a dirt-cheap vehicle just for your commute, thus saving needless wear, etc. on your BMW (or worrying about it getting up to temperature).
Even a Nissan Leaf would be a good buy. Yes, it's a garbage car, but not if you're only using it for a short, daily commute in traffic. (And you'll appreciate an automatic in this instance.)
the vette wouldve been a steal. this is suitable for filippo, great pick, but as for kennan, i dont think hes going to want to go out of his way to pick up an old trashy leaf just for commuting. overall, its not like him to go through all the hassle just to end up spending time in that interior, when he is at heart an enthusiast who owns and daily drives his stick shift e39. personally, id rather be driving the m5 in traffic than the leaf lol
@@musotica Really? I'd rather be in something crappy, knowing that I'm saving my special car for times when it's worth driving it. Each to their own, though.
I also wouldn't go through much hassle - I'd just buy the nearest, cheapest one.
@@julianevans9548 i agree, assuming that you wish to use a seperate vehicle for commuting. me personally, id rather take my enthusiast car with me most of the time, and i wouldnt want to subject myself to a substantially worse vehicle if my cayman was an option. i just think that he, as a former ferrari owner, is unlikely to go through the effort of finding, purchasing, registering and insuring a seperate car when he dailies his three pedal m5. plenty people do go down that route though, it all depends and no shame in that!
You really do have to take it on a good twisty mountain road to get the most out of a Cayman. It really comes alive in those environments. You feel the mid-engine balance. Right near redline and on the edge of a cliff :-).
Nobody watches these videos with a group of people, the traditional way of speaking in journalism is to speak as if addressing an audience of one. Great content
I own a 991.2 base Carrera and a 987.1 base Cayman. I previously owned a base 987.1 Boxster for 9 years. The Boxster/Cayman is more fun to drive even though it’s not as fast and it sounds better since the engine is right behind you in the cabin.
Filippo finding the best cheap cars.
I dig it.
I had the same 2.7 987. Unfortunately I can confirm they do suffer from bore scoring 😂 you can’t assume they don’t. But they are amazing cars, you get a proper sports car feeling
C7 corvette is the way to go (although I do love the cayman) - you just can’t beat what the c7 offers! It’s one of the very few (maybe the only?) modern sports cars that combines lightweight, an NA V8, manual transmission, RWD, analog driving experience, and open roof if you want it. And then there's MagRide which is an absolute game changer. All Corvettes have a certain image, I get that... but if you get past that, it's one of the best modern sports cars IMO. If BMW or Porsche made a modern car with that formula (lightweight, NA v8, manual, analog, RWD, etc etc) it would break the internet. But, I get the vette image isn't for everyone. I'm in my 30s and I do wish the image wasn't so mid-life crisis haha. But that all melts away when you're carving up a twisty road with the roof open and rowing your own gears the v8 echoing off the mountains. And I know we can debate whether or not it lightweight ... its no Elise, but compared to other modern sports cars, its lighter than even the V6 competition ie Supra, Nissan Z, 911, M4, F-Type, etc. Miata is obviously lighter but slow, the only car I can think of with any grunt that's notably lighter is maybe Boxster GTS. When I was shopping, I really didn't want the answer to be Corvette. I really didn't like the image, but the more I shopped and test drove cars, the more I couldn't help but think it's the best modern affordable sports car on the market.
The C7 is peak Corvette. The C8 is nice but it's a different class of car. The C7 is powerful, handles great, sounds great, reliable, and is surprisingly daily-driveable. The interior is GM but the prices are GM too.
I’m here for the Filippo content. Any one of Doug’s cars (minus the A-class) costs more than I have cumulatively spent on cars.
Bravissimo Filippo, bel vidéo. Continua così e che la pizza sia buona 🍕 😋
I think Fillipo needs to drive a depreciated S550 mustang GT convertible
How does this compare to a new GR86 from a sports car experience?
Everyday driver did a great comparison test of the two on RUclips.
986/987 base models are the most fun
FInd a 987.2 base and get 20 more hp and no IMS worry since it has none! When I was in the market the 987.2 Cayman Base was the sweet spot of price, reliability and handling. It's been a great car so far. Funny how you can get one of the worlds best handling/driving cars for very little money. Not sure why.....
We need more Fillipo cheap car reviews
How about a z4m? Verts can be sub 20 and I’m seeing some coupes under 30 even with good maintenance
Cheapo Filippo for the win!
