The fact that this review was released a few hours into December 25th in Australia feels appropriate. Despite the fact that this is technically a Halloween review.... Life is fun sometimes.
In a weird roundabout way the rights issues with the OG trilogy proved beneficial from an artistic and storytelling perspective in the long run, opening the door to the interpretation that Ash's mind is so screwed up by the events of that fateful night that sometimes he remembers certain details differently, hence why in the prologues for both Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness it's just him and Linda going there, and why Linda is played by a different actress not just in those movies but in Ash vs. Evil Dead as well. At least that's how I see it.
Or the fact that Cheryl is Ash(ley)'s sister in the Ash vs. Evil Dead series. Which I found a nice twist in the tv-show (and was a nice reason to bring back the OG actress) but it is weird.
@@Tuning3434 What twist? The fact that they were siblings was already established in the first movie. "IT'S YOUR SISTER CHERYL!". That's what the Deadite who had possessed her was screaming when it lured Ash to the cellar door as he was comforting Linda after her own possession. I agree, though, it was nice seeing Ellen Sandweiss reprise the role in Season 2 of Ash vs. Evil Dead.
you could argue Ash's change in personality follows the trauma he experienced in ED1. It makes sense that he puts up an act to drive people away from him considering he's constantly being attacked by demons that posses people
Surprisingly fitting for this Christmas, since I got really into Sam Raimi movies this year, even saw Evil Dead II for the first time in cinemas and it quickly became a favourite. Groovy.
The sight of Santa riding his sleigh with Ash and his candy cane colored chainsaw hand and present wrapped boom stick taking down Deadites is what I want for Christmas.
It's nice how you appreciate how distinct the first Evil Dead movie is as a pure horror movie and how narration in the style of the later films doesn't vibe with it. Very good analysis
6:30 Evil Dead 2 is sort of a requel. Personally, I choose to believe that when he was talking to his coworkers at S-Mart after returning from 1300 at the end of Army of Darkness, he played it off like it was just him and his girlfriend rather than a group of people
Kind of a missed opportunity to not make an edit of the theme song that combines both the Halloween and Christmas versions in an intentionally awkward way. I dunno, I just think it would've been funny.
You know I feel like even the more jerky version of Ash would probably not talk about the death and position of his friends girlfriend and sister with so many jokes or disregard.
Hurray! Man, I cannot tell you how bummed I was about not having any Ashock the Fourth Wall this year. I was really banking on having something new to spook and make me laugh during what's normally a pretty crappy time of year for me. So glad you got to do something, and I won't have to wait a year to find out what the new franchise would be. Thanks, man! You're the best! Edit: I suppose this message should be for Moarte, bless his unsoul.
Thank you Linkara for this amazing year and although you might have not have gotten all the videos out this still was an amazing year filled with amazing wonderful moments that will last forever
@@thatonea-hole Maybe Christoween. I’m thinking Hallo-Mas and I’m just visualizing people in Halloween costumes at a church which granted sounds AWESOME but will probably never happen…any time.
I never knew Evil Dead was also a Christmas movie. Guess we can oair it with the likes of Nightmare Before Christmas then. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!
10:21 Honestly, I think the way the Deadites possess people is through you being injured by a deadite, like when Ash's girlfriend in the first movie is stabbed in the ankle by Cheryl or Scotty being attacked by either Linda (who was much scarier in Evil Dead 1 because of, "We're gonna get you") or evil trees.
Between Nosferatu movie coming out on Christmas Day and Linkara reviewing an Evil Dead comic and Santa vs Dracula looks like we are celebrating Halloween late this year. Because nothing say Merry Christmas like Vampires and Deadites 🎄🧛🏻♂️🧟♂️
@12:46 Didn't Sam Raimi say in an interview at one point that he regretted including that scene in the original film? If that's true, it's weird that a comic book adaptation would keep it.
i love Christmas horror so even though this isn't that technically it still works. made my day thanks for the early Christmas present and marry Christmas Linkara

I thought you’d finish it here but here’s hoping you got enough time to do three episodes before the end of the year.
I am so glad we're getting more Evil Dead comic reviews!! Evil Dead is one of my favorite series, and the comics go so many wild and, odd, directions 😅
Yesterday I watched a video of another RUclipsr I’m subscribed to called Squirrel Tactics, whose videos cover King of the Hill characters and episodes; said video was about “Pretty, Pretty, Dresses”, quite possibly the show’s darkest episode and it being set during Christmas. The reason I’m being this up is because of Squirrel Tactics bringing up this fun little tidbit near the beginning of the video which I think is applicable to Linkara covering horror-related comics at Christmas time: “…and a lot of people think it's kind of weird to have such a dark episode set around Christmas, which actually makes more sense than people give it credit for; seeing as, historically, Christmas has been a season for ghost stories. In fact, probably the best known Christmas story ever written, “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens, is a ghost story. It's about a man haunted by supernatural beings. And you can't tell me that Marley's ghost wasn't meant to be scary. Well, most versions…[plays clip of The Muppet Christmas Carol where Statler and Waldorf as the Marley Brothers recount how they evicted an entire orphanage]…I mean come on the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come is essentially Death…[plays clip of the movie Scrooged where Frank Cross, played by Bill Murray, lifts up the Ghost of Christmas Future’s robe horrifically revealing a skeletal ribcage containing grotesque demons loudly roaring]…So dark stuff at Christmas isn’t that odd.”
18:58 Ok that one I won’t blame him for he’s clearly trying to cope with this situation in a “This isn’t really happening” kind of way holding onto false hope that the demons aren’t real and everyone is ok. Can’t blame him really.
One Evil Dead story I would like to see is Ash from the good ending of Army of Darkness meeting Ash from the bad ending trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world.
I feel like Morte would be more interested in Christmas if you told him about Krampus in German Christmas folklore, the demon or demons that follow Saint Nick around and either swat naughty kids with birch stick, gives the parents a whole bundle to be used AT THEIR DISCRETION or stuffing the REALLY naughty kids into his sack and either taking them to hell or throwing them into a river etc.
10:31 I think its a Break down of "will" of the victim .. sort of like the Demon's Will overcoming the Will of the victim .. cause it would explain the amount of psychological torture the Demons Put their victims through before possessing them.
Okay, while I'm not a big fan of Moarte taking over and forcing Halloween reviews and taking stuff away from Christmas reviews, including not letting us see the Christmas opening I really like that opening, I have to admit the banter between Linkara and Moarte is some of the best dialogue exchange I've seen from this show in a long time, I haven't seen good dialogue exchanges since Linkara wit Doctor Linksano over the whole cloning thing or Linkara and the crew during the Gunslinger Story arc.
The narration isn't that bad of an idea, it would've been really cool if they had it start as modern ash's snark, then gradually, we see his narration breakdown over the course of retelling what would be a pretty traumatic story.
19:30 I'm not sure how I feel about being compared to the deadites. Especially when a certain someone keeps insisting on telling me I'm better than the people I impersonate. And, looking back, maybe she's right. Maybe I don't have good judgement on who to impersonate
7:41 when God tries to give you a message. So what are Deadites exactly? Demons, zombies, demon zombies? I've never been sure as an outsider looking into the lore. What I'm getting is the cabin and woods were already cursed and whatever the Necronomicon did just woke it up. 20:46 'killing wasn't in the job description ' ..have the comic writers ever worked retail?
Jack Skellington has certainly got his wish to combine the two holidays together XD
This is certainly a fascinating nightmare before Christmas.
I never expected to see an evil dead review on Christmas Eve, but it’s the review we didn’t know we needed
It is truly an embodiment of the holly jolly holiday season!
The fact that this review was released a few hours into December 25th in Australia feels appropriate. Despite the fact that this is technically a Halloween review.... Life is fun sometimes.
15:40 "And Cheryl wasn't Cheryl anymore."
She was SUPER-Cheryl!
As someone who has worked in retail, I sympathise with Moarte.
Honestly Linkara never change being you
17:51
May I just say that the fact that after all this time you still refer to reading Marville as some fate worse than any other warms my heart!
Merry Christmas linkara and morata
Hey, we have to appreciate Halloween. It's the only thing keeping Christmas from engulfing poor October as it did November.

Joke's on Ash. Turns out the way to stop the Deadites is to give them an S-Mart rewards card.
It's nice how you appreciate how distinct the first Evil Dead movie is as a pure horror movie and how narration in the style of the later films doesn't vibe with it. Very good analysis

I have a feeling that this event wasn't exactly planned far in advance.
Sounds like you had a rough year. I'm glad you're closing it out by having some fun.
You know I feel like even the more jerky version of Ash would probably not talk about the death and position of his friends girlfriend and sister with so many jokes or disregard.

Linkara have you considered showing Moarte some horror Christmas comics? You know, show him something that is both festive and horrifying
An Atop the Fourth Wall episode on monday? This is truly a Christmas miracle. 😅
A Halloween review on Christmas Eve feels like The Nightmare Before Christmas. It's oddly fitting.
Halloween in December ALWAYS needs to be a thing.
