This song popped up on my random mp3 playlist yesterday while driving to see a friend in Tampa. With approximately 1000 songs to pick from and quite a few of those never been played on random this suddenly struck a nerve. Having certain feelings and thoughts of my own about what happened to George Floyd and the subsequent rioting, it was too easy to forget the other 2 senseless killings just prior to that, Breonna Taylor and Auhmad Arbery, and the incidents that originally led up to the writing of this song, including the murder of Trayvon Martin just a 30 minute drive north from where I live. This is a powerful song that reverberates as much right now as it did only 4 years ago and put things back in to the right perspective for me. Whatever happens on the periphery cannot and should not distract from the underlying issues that lead up to what is going on right now, namely the killing of black men and women by the powers that be, be it the police or wannabe self anointed security forces. Black Lives Matter.
Saw them in Portland, Me last night 7/27. My third time and it was the best show ever!! These guys give 110%. Crazy Horse meets the Band on Starbucks Espresso and even better Lyrics Top ten rock bands I'ver ever seen and I'm 60 and have seen a few. Bash our heads against the future, Forever South. Compelled, but not defeated, Surrender under protest if you must, Forever South.
Didn't notice at first but dude really botched his solo, didn't he? Not that this song is about the solo. The organ really makes it though. I kinda would just be a bunch of words with out it..
I think it was his guitar. He's capoed at the fourth fret and it sounds like the guitar started fretting out and giving him dead notes when he got way up the neck.
one of the great songs of the year....brilliant!!!!

Same here. I'm guessing the curator (although I'm not sure how the programming works) had something to say. Huge respect.
The meaning of this song gets more powerful and more sad as time passes
