Good topics Andy, topics of which give me much frustration 😅. This pushing and selling of wheatgerm for Winter, its a myth for sure! In simple terms you'll probably notice around 8c koi aren't as on it, they'll probably feed yes but is that good reason to feed? Especially if the forecast is for low temperatures! Mine haven't been fed for two months now, being as its gone mild I'm opening them up today and they'll get some food. As for kh, leave your system alone and see where it naturally sits, if that's 2 and stable then great! Then monitor, when it drops to say 1 then start to add small amounts to top back up, its really simple but one where I see so many trying to maintain levels that are not needed or inline with their own ponds consumption of carbonates. You state you want to keep 6, well I would ask why? 😊
Since my pond was set up back in October, I make sure I do my water tests every 4 days (did them every 2 days to start with) without fail. I honestly don’t know why you wouldn’t, especially as when I’d stopped feeding the fish (when the water dropped under 5°C) I found them eating the algae off the sides of the pond and thus would be producing waste product! P.S. I saw Peter Kay back in October. He was hilarious and the finale was brilliant.
I have 2 of the battery backup air pumps. The large one i used last year for the pond. My power didn't go out but i did unplug it at the end of the season and it seems to have held the charge. I bought a small one to use as a portable when putting fish in a bowl for treatment.
@@KoiPondLifestyle it's called "stress coat"😕 it's a declarinator and stimulates fish slime, Which in turns form's a protective barrier around the fish.
Ive used bicarb for about 4 years now. Every 10% (700lt) water change gets three heaped soup spoons in warm water. I buy it in 25kg bags. Much cheaper than using dechlorinator. Pond hit 10c today..thats a first for about 3 months. My 2 cameras needed resetting as the notifications pick up almost everything. Great for seeing foxes and hedgehogs. Over winter I do 2 water changes weekly. Orange treats ??
Hi Andy, great video as always, some of the information you put on here has helped me loads over the past few years with my pond. My temps today were 11 degrees!! And a big THANK YOU for dropping the water monitor off, especially the other little goodies, I'll wear the t shirt with pride 😊 Keep up the good work and remember every day is a school day and don't knock it until you try it!👍😁
Hiya, thanks for that. So glad my channel vids have been helping with your pond. Hope the monitor is working for you. There's only 2 of those Tshirts in that design and I have the other.😉 Your doing well with your pond at 11degrees. 😉👍
Hi Andy, another helpful and informative video. Thank you 👍. Just a thought, try using a whisk to mix the bicarb. I find them good for powder mixes. Keep the videos coming Ruth - Mrs Orca 🐳
Hi Andy, I use bi-carb a lot as my tap water KH is virtually zero, 1 at the very most, on a good day. I try to use the bicarbonate little and often where I can, to avoid any big PH swings. Although, I’m the opposite from you, as I don’t need to use it as much in the winter, as pond filters are not doing as much in the colder times, and obviously its the process of filtration that breaks the PH down. Although, as you are probably aware, if dosing heavily with it, PH swings would be less of an issue as bi-carb generally has a max out PH level of between 8.2 and 8.4. I’ve had my Kactoily installed for a week or so now, seems very good. 👍🏼
Hi Andy I have just bought the hailed cpa-120 due to having a power cut the other day and I don’t know if I have done something wrong but it’s not that good if you want it for the moving bed but I haven’t tried it just on airstones but will find out over weekend
Another great vid Andy I found that for my pond 10 g per 1000 lts works well when needed I add it in powder form into my multi-bay moving bed over an hour or so . Visited Blue Bay web site it looks like it could do with an update on stocked items or is it just me ?
Nice one Andy im not trying to pick holes im all for supporting local shops and its not that far from me to pop in and have a look one day@@KoiPondLifestyle
Hi Andy, another great video thanks for the information on Blue bay aquatics didn't know about them I've always used another just a mile from there but i will definitely be giving them a visit shortly looks a great place and that great big roll of matting wow i use that a lot but only ever been able to get it in a much smaller pack and probably at a higher cost , thanks again,🧓 Gwen.
Cracking update Andy bruva 💯🧁👍👍👍
Thanks Vince 👍

Isn't it amazing how this hobby has so many opinions from different ways pond keepers manage their ponds... 🤔😊👍
@@KoiPondLifestyle not sure about opinion m8, its a fact.
Nice update, mate, and I get my floss from them but didn't know they did so much other stuff as well. 👍
Yeah, He's quite reasonable with his prices as well..😉😉👍

Hiya, thanks for the feedback. So far everyone that's had the battery back up pumps seems to say they are good to have...😉👍
Great update Andy and I'm surprised that floss didn't knock you over 😂😂
😄😄😄
Great update Andy, can’t believe I’ve not seen Blue bay aquatics. Cheers for sharing. 😊
Hiya, best time to drop in is mornings before dinner...😉👍
Great update mate 👍 I'll be adding safe coat to the pond soon, the Americans rave about it, and the one's who recommend it don't have parasite issues.
That sounds interesting if it doesn't promote parasites 🤔👍

Nice one Andy I use bicarbonate soda all the time my tap water is naff 🙏🐟🐟🐟🐟🙏
You want to loop cables down before going into the wall
Hiya, are you talking about the cables to the new camera? 🤔

'Promosm' 🌷
B/carb has a maximum ph of 8 no matter how much you use it will not put the ph any higher
really...never knew that
That would do it them if that's the case...😊👍
The purest stuff is closer to 8.4 / 8.5
