Today’s phenomenal story is the start of ‘I Found Out Why My Dad Never Talked About His Experience in the Vietnam War’, an original series by Page Turner 627; shared directly with me via my sub-reddit and read here with the author’s express permission:

I cannot compliment the author enough for this tale. The authenticity and tension of battle is amazing, so much so that one can feel the uniform sticking to your skin from the sweat, your ears straining to hear the enemy above the mosquitoes and the ringing of tinnitus. What many Americans don't know is that the South Vietnamese fought most of the battles against the Comminists, and none more fiercely than the SVA Rangers. The average American grunt spent a year in hell before they went home. The South Vietnamese soldiers were in it until they either won or died. Even after the Americans left, even after Saigon fell, some SVA Ranger and Airborne units continued to fight the Communists. Mister Tony Nguyen, who owned Scandals II bar in Norfolk with his wife for several years before he passed, was a captain of an SVA paratroop unit during the war. Of the 160 men who were with him when the Americans left, only three survived to leave the country with their families. Mr. Nguyen and his family were boat people who came to America where, penniless, they worked incredibly hard to make a life and live the American dream for his children without taking a penny in government aid. As I listen to this truly awesome and very believable tale, I remember Mr. Nguyen and the struggle he and his family faced. He passed knowing that he and his wife gave their children a good life, a successful business, large houses, college degrees, and a feeling of gratitude for the country that gave so much to those yearning to be free. Thank you again for this story. I really hope that this tale receives tons and tons of views. Cheers! T_D
Hey the author here! Thanks for sharing that amazing story. This story is deeply personal to me. I'm first generation Vietnamese American myself. My dad was a South Vietnamese police captain and was sent to a reeducation camp after the war.
I put a lot of time researching the history and crafting the characters. Along with making it scary, I also wanted to show shear horror of the War from the Vietnamese perspective. In American media set in the VN War, Viet people are almost always just background characters, almost like props. And representation of the ARVN is practically nonexistent. I felt I had a duty to tell the story of the people on both sides of the conflict who suffered the most.
It's a touchy subject in my community, and I tried to be as evenhanded as possible. (I've had narrators in Vietnam tell me that they're actually afraid to translate this story because of the censorship over there). I just hope I did right by everyone.
Thanks again for listening!
@@quentinle4892 Absolutely incredible story. From the simple details of setting up a claymore, to the M16 tendency to jam at the worst possible moments, even to the minor detail of identifying the strike aircraft as US A4 Skyhawks, I thought that either the author was actually in Vietnam, or was first generation Vietnamese recounting a tale from his father. I am first generation Filipino-American myself, my father enlisting un the US military from the Philippines and served two combat tours in Vietnam before he was actually made a US citizen. He never talked about his time in war until I returned from my first tour of duty (I did 30 years in the Army, 56 months of those in combat). I believe we share the same family history when I say that when he returned, he worked hard to build a good life for his children. It is a terrible shame that the ARVN are often looked over as a footnote during the conflict since they fought the majority of the battles. It would be like the history books leaving out the Soviet Union out of the story of World War II.
You may like to listen to my series "Tales From the Iron Triangle" which Dr. Creepen narrated on his channel, in particular "The Tunnels of Vin Tu Li." He compiled all five of them into a complete series, if you don't want to search for them all. Also, instead of submitting stories to his Reddit page, I am doing a series of paintings of characters from my tales including portraits of Soldiers in my Tales From the Iron Triangle series and some aviation art from Rolling Hot and Unknown Contact Over the Tonkin Gulf. Would you mind very much if I do a painting from your tale, specifically the air strike conducted by the A4 Skyhawks?
I cannot wait to hear the conclusion of this tale and encourage you to share more. Cheers and happy writing! T_D
@@foxrecon19dI can definitely see the similarities in both our life stories. And yes you can do a painting. I would love to see it!
My grandfather got separated from his platoon for eight hours once. He mentioned it a time or two but as he would try to progress through his story, it caused the all too known signs of PTSD to wash over him. God knows what happened in those eight hours alone in jungle.
He was alone, scared, and lost until he found his troop. That's all.
@@Jerharris90still... sounds like dont you agree?
Can't imagine the horrors these poor souls went through. My Grandfather was lost there for eternity during the Tet offensive so I never got to meet him. I keep his picture up in my office though since my Dad and Grandmother passed away so he is not totally forgotten.
@@thelastminuteman7513 sorry for your loss brother my grandpa barely survived Nam. He was twice and survived a grenade blast from 10-15 feet away which resulted in shrapnel all in his body. I can remember watching Gun Smoke with him when suddenly he bent his head over and a solid chuck of metal popped out of his head. He just chuckled and threw it away, miss him everyday.
@@Jerharris90 Ik You’re just trying to rile me up but it’s fine my man, obviously you’re ignorant to the horrors the men including my grandfather faced in a war that shouldn’t never been fought.
Yeah just in time to relax with my favorite drink! Thanks Dr. 💋
This is awesome, I have never heard a story told from the perspective of an ARVN soldier

This is EPIC as always my dude. Can't wait for the next entry and this who thing to go down.
Cool to hear an ARVN perspective. I had an older student in Vietnam who was ex arvn, shot in the leg and still with a limp but stayed in vn. Myself ex usmc and my wife's family vc, an interesting mix

Man I love you and I love what you do keep it up and you’ve changed my listening life
And my dad did two tours. Anon I served in Iraq right after September 11 so this will definitely touch base with us. Thank you man little things like this means the world to people
I usually avoid stories with Vietnam in the title, they just tend to be half-baked and cheesy. Glad I didn’t this time, this is another classic. Amazing
Love it! Can’t wait for more.
More to come!
This was really good.
Been away far too long.
Glad to have this and many other stories to catch up on.
Long nights ahead and its nice to have something in my ear, something besides the low rumbling of worry.
Thanks Doc.
Wishing you peace of mind, it's hard to achieve!
All good wishes 💪🏼🥃🏴☠️🏴🙏🏼
Thank you!@@janetcw9808
Thank you for breaking this story up. 4 hour videos are just too much.
My pleasure!
Thanks Doc!
Spectacular
Most excellent sir!
Listening early today! I hope you are having a beautiful week, Doc!
You too!
Snall tip for future eps of this: normal granades don't produce flames on exploding. Thats mainly a movie and game thing for visual appeal.
My dad was 5th special forces in Nam, cept his unit was technically stationed at a base in Cambodia... 1 mile from the border
Love me some Dr. Creepen!
Hell yeah 👍👍 can't wait for 2nd installment
You and me both!
Thanks Doc
Oh so soothing 💖
*Congratulations 0n 350K subscribers* 💜

Awesome, love the military stories.
very good. Feeling like I have heard this before. Or maybe just a nightmare. Thanks for sharing this with us.
No worries!
Ha! That's all I do. The sky is falling the sky is falling. Thanks for what you do.
Calling it now "and that kids is how i met your mother"
Same.
Absolutely stunning video! Do we even know if it's possibly true?
Sir. I love all your stories. And an added bonus: I have such horrific nightmares. Your the only
Voice that does that. I like it. Just wanted you to know ❤
Yay, there is more.
Pretty good!
Awesome
I usually listen to your channel to get some kind of spook but this made me feel sad
Good evening Doc! Hello one & all♥️♥️♥️♥️
Page Turner 627,what an awesome pseudonym!
Love me a Vietnam and zombie story
Thanks
Alright, Doc. We need some more alternate dimension stories here.
Best way to fall asleep, listening to the good Doctor.
Enjoy!
Oooo go on then doc drink made ....story time 😊
How I met your grandmother; cryptid edition
I'd like to hear how it ends
I like the story pretty awesome. However I find it odd how the story brings up shared humanity between the sniper and protagonist.
Like who else do human beings have to go to war with aside from fellow Humans?
It’s in the sense that in war, you’re trained to dehumanize the enemy. Thanh and Tuyet break their indoctrination and realize the other is just a human being too.
My daddy was a Vietnam vet but he never did talk about
Doc, thank you for not being an AI
🖤🖤🖤
She didn't love him long time
This story is about Trioxin.
When is the next part
This is why you don't trust the government did you ever watch the movie Jacob's-ladder if not check that out.
Oh this is just '68
First like an comment🎉
👍👍🙌
Vietnam AND zombies? Score
Please sir, can I year some more
Btw Vietnamese pronunciation can be pretty hard for ppl who don't know, but for the two characters: duyet ~ wet/yet and Danh ~ yen/yan (English approximation)
Author here! The names are actually Thành and Tuyết.
Not bad.
😎👍
I'm 900 👍

So a military love story with like 2 minutes of zombies. Dang doc, this one was kind of a let down.
Author here! I can promise you there are more zombie action to come.
moar
Second
I really don’t mean to be rude or disrespectful, but after 23:00 is there anything more than just war stories in this? Possibly paranormal? Because it’s boring the crap out of me.
Ahh! Finally!
Author here! Maybe the war itself is the most terrifying monster. But to answer your question, yes, there are also actual zombies in this story. I was trying to set up the story and build the tension. I'd rather show the brutality of combat than just tell you in an info dump.
Good story ,only one critique back in the 60's they were issued C rations ,not MRE's.
Be careful here!!
I was like "What the hell THAT'S IT!" then Doc said "this story is four hours long their is more to come" an I was like "ah okay" very excited and waiting for the next episode!!
