That loader went flying along with everything else. Shows the true punch power that a freight train has.

Freight is definitely a whole another beast but I have seen videos of electric passenger trains and trams destroy the shit out of many vehicles, it’s very rare now but in 2005 it frequently happened in Houston.

The truck was pulling a low-boy that was high centered and stuck on a raised crossing. Has occurred here before. Another
crossing a few miles south just finished with a construction project that raised the highway to be even with RR level.
    This crossing needs it too.

If that was the driver then that guy came so close to dying holy shit... I was always taught as a driver if you stall on tracks to walk *towards* the train and to the side, that way you minimize the risk of getting hit by your own vehicle. Imagine what could've happened if the train hit the truck at an angle and sent it flying to the side...

It doesn’t happen that often actually, a lot of the RUclips videos you see of accidents are very old clips.

@made-in-the80s correct. Or at least a lot of the time that it happens it’s not filmed. I’ve never seen it happen in real life before.

@made-in-the80s It's a good thing locomotive cabs are built rugged today. When I was a young sailor on staff at Great Lakes outside of Chicago (1982 I think) I came across a grade crossing accident where a tractor trailer (dump body loaded with gravel) tried to beat a C&NW freight running at about 45 MPH. The two units leading were EMD SD40-2s with standard cabs made of 1/4" sheet steel with little or no reinforcement. The cab crew bailed when they saw that they were going to hit. The truck and load got wrapped around the front of the lead engine, crushing the cab. Both trainmen were injured though not critically, the truck driver stayed in the truck cab and was thrown out by the impact. He didn't survive.
Compare that with the collision of a tractor trailer loaded with a heavy bridge support beam getting smacked in much the same way as this one was but with the crew riding the collision out in the cab of the lead unit. Minor injuries only or so I heard. Compared to the earlier "standard cabs" of both EMD and GE, today's cabs are built of armor plate offering the crew much better protection against accidents like this.

ya know alll the years i had a lowboy the only time i ever got stuck was in the dirt at a job site, if i came to a crossing like this i found another way around and a few time i off loaded the piece and had the customer come get it. they weren’t that far away

At every crossing is a nearby sign with a toll-free number to directly contact railroad dispatchers. The sign also lists the crossing information so the dispatchers can put a halt on any trains on that section of track and notify authorities. The sign may be on the crossing gate control box, on the crossbuck pole, or a free-standing sign. Of course, if you can see the train is already approaching, just get away!

I used that once when I saw a train with an axle that wasn't turning. Saw it at one crossing, realized there was an issue, so I drove to another crossing a mile or so down to see the same train again, managed to get the car number and called it in. No idea what happened after that.

lowboy truckers should have their routes revised, those trailers are prone to getting stuck in crossings and can derail a train easily
