"Genital herpes is an infection by the herpes simplex virus (HSV) of the genitals.[1] Most people either have no or mild symptoms and thus do not know they are infected.[1] When symptoms do occur, they typically include small blisters that break open to form painful ulcers.[1] Flu-like symptoms, such as fever, aching, or swollen lymph nodes, may also occur.[2] Onset is typically around 4 days after exposure with symptoms lasting up to 4 weeks.[1] Once infected further outbreaks may occur but are generally milder." - wikipedia

Omg this is so incredibly similar to what I experienced.
This is probably the first time I am making a comment openly about my situation but I feel that this is a safe space to be doing so.
It happened quite recently and I definitely have this thought about how my sex life is over.
It is very frustrating and very depressing (especially since I am already diagnosed with clinical depression)
And being a woman it definitely is a lot harder to find people to accept it. I've already experienced rejection due to this and while I am learning to accept it the best I could, I am also only just 23. So it hurts a bit, ngl.
We need WAY MORE awareness about Herpes because it is so sneaky and there is no cure for this. And while the real consequence of it on an individual may not be too harsh, but there is so much stigma around this and it feels so so scary.
I'm right there with ya. I just recently got my first outbreak and it was an absolutely crushing experience.
He's right about STI screening not testing for herpes, I was fairly confident that I got herpes from someone and the doctor was trying to convince me that it's probably not herpes and it was probably just dermatitis, but I pushed for the seperate test, they swabbed the affected area and it came back positive for herpes type 2. I'm pretty lucky with mine, I get maybe 1 or 2 outbreaks a year and it's always a sore the size of a small capsule on the base of my shaft. I think they key for me is eating healthy, exercising and having good hygiene down there.

I have herpes. Never had a outbreak tho. Herpes is very common. It’s not really a big deal.
A very interesting fact I’ve also learned in life when we are std free don’t think we have a virus dormant in our body at the time it makes us feel free to do what ever we like in our free time out there in the community once we’ve caught a std it makes us all think twice what we do but it’s nothing to feel sad or guilty about that’s all part of life learning about these things that can happen

That’s why it’s always good to wait for at least 2-3 dates and knowing the person for a month. They will feel more confortable telling you about their STDs if they have any.
Nope...you both gotta make it a "date" and get the full smorgasbord of testing. People aren't so forthcoming with STD status. You need to see the verified receipts!
There are at-home kits that are relatively affordable and if you live near or in major cities health departments can usually test for free (taxpayers' expense).

Thank you for giving this guy a voice and most importantly educating about this STD. A lot of people don’t know actually, what herpes is. It’s just a skin condition. It lives in your nervous system. It’s not something that’s gonna harm you down the line of your life. And there’s a huge stigma around it, and I hope with the years to come that the stigma will go away.
There’s a stigma because it’s permanent, looks awful and is supposedly sore. I’m sorry but no one is going to willingly choose that for themselves. I can guarantee the majority of people had no idea they were in a situation to catch it, otherwise they’d have avoided it.
yes but NO. It is Not just a skin condition. it is not going to kill you but it can pop up randomly forever in your life time. People should still do things to avoid it and other STD when they can.

Why isn’t there stigma around oral herpes? It’s also permanent and can be very sore - it’s literally cold sores 😄. Answer is - society shames sex, has done for eons.

The virus itself remains in the base of the spine forever (until there is a "cure"). But it can be dormant (no symptoms) for many years. Many people have the virus but have never experienced any symptoms. And for a lot of people, they do have their worst symptoms the first year or two, and then it can recede like it was never there at all.

I actually don't know how people can wait that long to get tested. At the same time, I heard many people are like this. I got infected and I went to a clinic right away after infection so I took medicine before it gets too worse. It did stop the symptoms and I felt much better.
Herpes doesn't just go away with medicine. Once you get it, you've got it for life. You probably had a different STI, not herpes
