Im watching this with tears streaming down my face, Im 24 and just got the news today that I tested positive for herpes..I feel like an absolute failure and like the one thing Ive always enjoyed and taken pride in (my sexuality and sex life) has now been ripped away from me and my life. I know deep down that Ill be okay and I can lead a normal healthy life, but..I just feel unloveable, guilty and betrayed too..I just got out of a 4 yr relationship and Im still mourning that relationship, and the minute I decide to get back out there, turns out the guy Im intimate with gave it to me. Oh come on… just tell your future partners to use condom and that’s it! You can live a totally normal life/sex life. And once you marry, your partner will get it anyway. Men usually don’t show any signs of it plus if he finds out, you can just say you never knew you had it.

I just found out I’ve been diagnosed and it’s honestly hard to process and accept and it was because of a cold sore that I thought was gone, a complete accident but that accident feels like it’s changing my life, but knowing that there is a community out there that can relate to the shame regarding this issue really brings so much peace and I hope and pray that I can get though this along with others facing this issue. I lived in silence for 20+ years. Once I started talking about it openly, and just recently in the last year, my shame and low self esteem around it started shifting drastically. To anyone recently diagnosed, BE GRATEUL that its happened at this point in time. 20+ years ago we did not have extensive online community support like this (only some basic message boards with limited info), nor access to a variety of info for natural health and wellness practices to keep it suppressed and manageable, or many people talking openly and working to destigmatize having it. There is more awareness and acceptance now that you can live a normal life and have healthy safe relationships. I only wish I had this 20+ years ago, my life would be so different now. Bek, I relate sooo much to your story. I have had all the same feelings and struggles with this.
(Recently diagnosed) I can't get a straight answer. Can you please help. This would mean the absolute world to me. Sorry but it does get a little TMI but I have no idea how else to ask.
How long after a person has contact initially with an effected person does the outbreak happen? Because I was told 6 weeks by urgent care and it only makes sense if the real answer is 2 to 12 days like I have read. My story would tie into that but I typed it out and I was afraid it was too long and you would not want to read about compete strangers battle with this.

Your story mimics mine. My partner at the time wanted her best friend to join in on our... sessions. I wasn't told that she had the hsv2 found out two weeks ago. I’m SO grateful to run across your story, Bek. I met my husband who had it prior when I was 18. I accepted it and him and we honestly had a difficult marriage for 25 years. Finally we divorced but I always had the shame and thought I’ll never find anyone who will love me with this. What an inspiration - I am 54and just been diagonised with this even though I have always been so careful. thanks for talking about the first outbreak. i was going nuts worrying with everyone saying it should only be one or two sores when i have more. however the emphasis on 'natural management' and the 'mental health STI' stuff makes me worry. it's a physical issue, it just can also make you feel bad about yourself, which of course also needs to be addressed and made peace with. but if you need antivirals to manage it or prefer to be on them for peace of mind there's no shame in that.

Im 24 single and got Herpes and it's been just two days I noticed about it im on the first outbreak plus anxiety cz its sth new and i need time to accept this ,Im living with family and keeping this as secret and dealing it all by my own is a little painful for me .I'm really sad right now but should accept it as a part of me now and live stronger .don't let your mind and bad thought weakness your body.I know I'm still young and I have a long way to go but when I'd prefer stay strong and keep going .we are bigger than some little viruses and red pimples :)
I’m a real person not one of these bots promoting their famous doctor. You’ll be fine trust me. I’ve had it since I was 15 and I’m 24 now. I had one initial outbreak and it never happened again. I have never had hsv outbreaks below the belt. Thank heavens for that but have been getting outbreaks on the mouth since I was a kid. I didn’t get it through sexual contact so I didn’t have any ‘fun’ contracting it. I have had some real bad outbreaks in the 90’s and for a while after but now in my 40’s I hardly ever get an outbreak. A week or so ago I felt the hot spot sensation which is a precursor to an out break near or on my lip. What did I do? I had this beeswax lip balm which has additional vitamin E and peppermint and I covered my lips with it. You are not gonna believe this but the hot sensation went away and there was no followup outbreak! It was lovely. Anyhow for those who suffer from HSV cut back on foods that are high in arginine and indulge in foods that are high in lysine and high in zinc. Drink green tea unsweetened regularly. A bit of honey is good because honey has a good amount of nutrients. Exercise and no smoking goes a LONG way to keeping this virus dormant. It sleeps in the nerve ganglia at the base of the spine and starts synthesizing particles when the immune system gets weak. Not enough sleep will trigger it every time

13:55 That's because alot of people don't know cold sores ARE herpes. People want to separate the two and you can't. They want to stigmatize genital herpes not fully knowing that someone can have HSV1 on their genitals. Just as someone can have HSV2 on their mouths

@@Tupemo my dad who had to hear me get diagnosed told me i should just act like its chickenpox 😰. but there is a possibility if i got preg the baby could die in womb from the virus. i read abt that. so many people have it though. its not that bad. i got type 2, at least that ones not transferable to the mouth so u cant see it

Had a girlfriend not tell me she was positive for this. Eventually I contracted it. The first outbreak was very small. The second was 2 months later and more uncomfortable. I had no idea where it came from . I was married, working , serving my country. Had two sons one 5 and the other 2. I have had hsv for 20 plus years.. i actually gave it to myself. At the time i had a cold sore and an abrasion down below and transfered hsv1 to hsv2. The worst thing i ever did was to first blame my spouse. I told them they had to get tested thinking the worst that my spouse had brought it home from somewhere else. Her test came back negative. I was so confused and disappointed in myself for not trusting my spouse. I went back to my doctor and told him her test came back negative. How can this be i asked because i have never even kissed another woman while married. Thats when he asked me if i had had any abrasions while i had a cold sore. I had and transferred to myself while taking a leak. We used a condom for the first year and after that the frequency of outbreaks dramatically decreased. My wife said she was willing to have sex again without protection. That was 19 years ago and she is still negative. Of course when i do feel an outbreak coming on we refrain. The thing that weighs most on my mind is not the virus its the shame i feel for thinking it was my wife who brought it home.
FYI just because it’s genital doesn’t mean it’s HSV2. I acquired HSV1 genitally from a partner. You can also have HSV2 on your lips. One doesn’t mean genital and the other oral. Sounds like you only have HSV1 but have it genitally and orally. You can get an antibody test to confirm.

I dated a beautiful lady 20 years ago that had HPV2. She waited until I was about to enter her to tell me. I am thankful she was honest and told me but very bad timing. You inspired me to look at myself differently. I found out in 2017. I think I got it from a married man. Karma punished me and I was no good to anyone. I was already drinking but after that my depression increased as well as the alcohol. As a male, I’ve had cold sores my whole life. But I know I only get them twice a year. Still do! Luckily only once or none! But still it’s still a heartache when the systems and it showed. My wife cheated on me over a year. They hid it so well from me. Him even acting like a friend.
