- Welcome to Schony747 trains on Wednesday.
Today the presentation features the Alstom Xtrapolis 100 electric train and the regular Xtrapolis transfers that were taking place between Melbourne and the Alstom Ballarat. Alstom Ballarat is the former Victorian Railways North Ballarat Workshops which Alstom Purchased from the Victorian Government in 1999 in the midst of the privatization of Victoria's public transport.
The transfers between Ballarat and Melbourne are hauled by Diesel Locomotives. Most recently, SSR has run the transfers on behalf of Metro Trains Melbourne. Previously Metro Trains had locomotive rolling stock and undertook the transfers itself.
The presentation tells the story of the train transfer features Alstom Ballarat, the departure from Ballarat and some line side video along the way.
Happy hump day. See you Friday for planes and Saturday for trams - Brenden S.

Amazing coverage my friend. Incredible shots. Huge 👍
@1:24-> great view of the flyover in use!!!!
Yep! It's a great view in general. Night trains are particularly good as well as the atmosphere is totally different.
Very nice presentation Brenden. In depth with lots of background information, and a lot of good footage to go with it. Great coverage of the overall transfers.
Thanks Malcolm. Your videos are great as well
Thanks for this Great Footage....
Thanks for looking
Superb footage there!
Thanks 😀😀😀😀
Very informative video. I was at Ballarat station a few weeks ago and had a good look around. Just a shell of it's former self, like all the once great country stations. Not so much the actual station, but the surrounds and buildings and rail yards. Even some of the signalling seems to have been removed.
I grew up in Ballarat and you're right, it's a shadow of it's former self but still a grand looking building.
Likewise Bendigo, it used to have four tracks between the platforms, the current simple crossing loop looks sad. However all the little buildings and lots of dead end sidings reflected that the railways employed a lot of men to shunt and unload all those vehicles. This manpower dwindled since the 1920s.
At least you can still buy a train ticket in Ballarat or Bendigo, it’s a shame that at the great stations of Junee and Werris Creek that operational staff still work there but prospective passengers are directed to buy tickets from the travel agent in the town.
Nowadays it’s all online.
Great video! :)
Thanks 😀😀
Nice Video! 17:35 I like this one! Looks good with Nice engine sound!
The P class was a rebuild from the first series flat top T class. Here's a link.

@@Schony747 Thanks for the info! P22 look good.
great video bro
Thanks 😀😀😀😀
Wow. Great Catch Mate! Stay Safe During Lockdown.
Thanks. Have a safe lockdown 😀😀
2:37 When they're "unadorned" like this is when they look their best!
Yes but they have to go by the metro colour scheme
@@youtubeviewer7030 Tsk, tsk. Pity, that!
Neil Forbes what your looking at is the manufacturer colour
@@neilforbes416 but i rather toned down colours
good footage from cold Ballarat
And really cold at the moment!
2:03. The white XTrapolis train is undergoing extensive testing, before it can be approved for service.
That's what I would have thought. Otherwise I'm not sure why it was there
2:03 it's almost like it came out of the workshop
I just have a question, is the Tram restraunt going to open again? Because on google it says it's temporarily closed. But I don't know.
No one really knows what's going on. I'm based at Southbank and can't even give you an honest answer.
@@Schony747 oh, thanks anyway. I hope it reopens.
Its currently closed due to COVID might start back when COVID is over but only time will tell
at 5:22 is that an older shot of the place? the fence has inexplicably changed. this was a great idea for a video.
The photos were taken back on 2011 so that would explain that.
About time those V-Locities got a decent horn. It sounds like a rubber duck.
A strangled rubber duck
2:45 why is the train going to south morang when you said epping
Probably because it was unwrapped and I would assume it was going to Epping for servicing. Otherwise no idea
hm thats confucsing
I wonder what those Metro locos are carrying. Or maybe it's a test / inspection unit.
The actual passenger consist is an empty Alstom Xtrapolis electric train that has modifications carried out at Ballarat. The single van is a power van.
When do you think the Xtrapolis set will role out on the pakenham line?
Exeter Central never
The mortien meme
I've only seen the transfer twice, once while it was running around at North Melbourne while passing on a train and at Bannockburn
Likewise. I only saw it a couple of times as well but interesting to watch.
PPE is questionable, for Vline Standards....
Hey Brendan, how are you coping with the lockdown? I'm sure it has stifled your activity at the moment! Apparently it's supposed to run for 6 weeks. Hang in there. You should be able to get back out there and shoot fresh video content sometime soon.
Neil Forbes well for me I need a permit just get over the border
Hi Neil. Lockdown isn't great for anyone. I've got plenty of material and ideas to keep you entertained for the next 6 weeks. Thanks for asking.
@@Schony747 im up here on the border the XPT terminates at albury so at 4am in the morning they have to switch to coaches for the rest o the way
@@youtubeviewer7030 As you're in Wodonga, with the NSW/Vic border now closed(first time in 100+ years), you're barred from crossing into Albury for the time being. It's a bummer! And now they're talking about shifting the border! Dumb-arse idea, that is!
@@Schony747 Cheers!
huh!? 20 years to complete a train order?
They kept on adding to the initial order 😀😀
