Easily the most underrated emotional moment for me is David talking to his mother while going crazy. It's such a great set of moments
That and him saying "Mom?" to Rebecca, crazy hard hitting moments
Rebecca’s reaction kills me too. She seems like your typical crazy fun gun girl but she’s really sweet and caring underneath. 😭

The relationship between David and Rebecca is also one of the best in the show. Even when Rebecca knows at this point that her love won't really manifest, she supports David's actions and stays with him till the end. The best Homie David had in his crew.

Men & women share the same feelings and can react the same way. There's no shame for either group crying over there emotions. Anyone who says otherwise has their own emotional problems and not in a good way.

The reason David has a serious resistance to going cyberpsycho is because he had people around him that care for him. Mike Pondsmith went into detail while explaining why V and David are rare exceptions to that rule.

to quote jackie and clair you dont become a legend by how you live your become a legend how you die. Going out with a bang is the way to become a legend. What better way then attacking arasaka killing massive amounts of their people and even going toe to toe with adam smasher.
They managed to tell such a great story in just 10 short episodes. With so little time they found the perfect balance between action, drama, comedy and a beautiful love story. The tragic ending really made it special. Even though most people obviously want a happy ending in situations like this it shouldn’t have ended any other way.
less is more is what I've come to realize about entertainment over the years. It was time not wasted.
@@lostvayne9146 yeah like how gigguk said in his analysis video, it isnt "rushed" or "short" per say, it's just very Packed. Every episode goes 100% and doesn't slow down, kinda like David's life in a weird way, going from orphan arasaka dropout to newbie edgerunner to a night city legend all under a year. The trauma never slowed down either....

In all technicality, the happy ending is Lucy being on the moon, since she is free from Night City, which she says is a prison. Reaching dreams comes at a heavy price. And the price Lucy had to pay was David. He died so she could be free from that prison of a city.
Happy endings? Wrong city, wrong people.

Fun fact, when Lucy sees David on the moon at the end of the Series, Shes seeing whats called a "Virtue". In the game 2077, its mentioned that when someone does a Brain Dance, they can save Mental Images from it, and bring it up. Like a recording. She can visually Recall David on the moon whenever she wants. Thats why Lucy is my favorite from the show. Her Dream can never come true, because she only wanted David to live on D:

Its just her memories. The show gives no indication she's watching a virtue, she's just seeing the memory she has of him. Thats why he just disappears-- a virtu wouldn't just dissappear like that
@@ghengis423 if you play the game Panam or Judy (I can't remember which one) is the one who explains why this is the case. She isn't "watching it" like a BD. It's literally an overlay of what she's seeing with a visual memory from a BD she's seen before (the BD of the moon).
Johnny Silverhand said it the best to V, when he said he wishes for a happier ending.

Did you get the symbology that in the end David was Lucy's real moon of happyness so even when she achived her "dream" of going to the moon all she could think about was David... 😭
The two of them were always destined for a tragic end. Of the possible options this is the better of them as far as I'm concerned. I love them and wish them nothing but happiness but when living in night city the only end for the pair of them was what happened, death for both of them, death for Lucy and David in Cyberpsychosis because he's truly lost everyone he's ever cared about, or death for David like what happened but Lucy didn't make it out and is captured by Arasaka once again.
And so yeah, it's depressing as hell, and it hit you in the gut. But at least they had some happy times together, and while she's depressed and alone, at least she made it out, and in doing so made David's dream come true. Because he never cared about himself. He only ever cared about those around him, and going on after they've all been taken from him is a fate worse than death for a character like David if you ask me. At least he went out like a legend.

David being ADHD and the weight of being called special is something I never interpreted or even considered but as soon as you said it, hit me like a ton of bricks. It makes so much sense
Same, but when Claroos drops a bomb like that it always lands
David and V are so resistant to cyberpsychosis because they have a positive, emotional backdrop to fall on. They had friends and family which promotes a higher humanity stat from the PnP source which offsets going crazy.
@Social Injustice Goblin A good reason that cyberpsychosis is more common in the anime and video game than it was in the tabeltop game, is that they take place in 30-50 years after the setting for the tabletop game, depending on which edition we're talking about.

While it is just flavour text and not a rule, it clearly implies that its turning your body into a killing machine that causes the extra stress to your mental well-being and when you go too far your mind collapses
The fact that becca showed so much love towards David and all she wanted was for him to be happy, knowing that she isnt that girl that could is amazing and makes me emotional like a little baby

Best anime series I've seen in awhile. And an unforseen savior of the game too.
Glad to have experienced it despite the sad feels.
The thing that kills me about this show is how a lack of communication between people who really cared for each other is basically what created a bit of a spiraling downfall; but in a way that happens to us A WHOLE lot. Like we fixate on trying to do what's best for people we care for, but we often chasing the things that matter less than our presence. She's sneaking off to protect him from Arasaka recovering data about him, so when it's a trap and she goes missing he can't know something is wrong; she knows he's chasing fulfilling a dream that isn't "his," and assumes it's Maine's, but He's so rapped up in getting her to the moon that his "life," the thing that is most important to her, is irrelevant. She was already on the (proverbial) moon...
AND REBECCA DESERVED BETTER.

So true. It was all lack of communication, with the best intent. We don’t ask people what’s important to them, we just make assumptions based on tidbits of information, and they turn out to be wrong. Pretty much all drama and tragedy is like that. And much bad things that happen to people in real life.
Ironically, the payout for the last job $500,000 a person. Is just enough for two one way tickets to the moon. Which is stated earlier to be $250,000.
Great observation. Story's a master class tragedy - especially with the devastating ending that earned all of those damn feelings.

The moment where David starts saying "yes mom, I will go to the top of Arasaka" I literally just tear up every time.

I dont think she would be proud because that is not what she meant. David died from making the wrong and selfish choices one after another till the end.
The fact that we all got so connected to the crew in such a short amount of episodes is still so impressive to me. I was absolutely annihilated by this episode as well.
While I was rewatching the show I noticed in episode 3 when Maine tells David he's part of the crew, he also tells him " ain't no one in this world you can trust" the first person David looks at is Kiwi.

Thank you for giving us your raw and honest feedback on the finale, and fully embracing your emotions and being so present in the moment.
Fun facts:
- In the bar Afterlife there are various drinks named after fallen legends of Night City. One of them is called David Martinez. It was there before the show even came out
- In the latest update, various weapons from the characters of the show have been added to the game. We can see now a surging trend of people going after Adam Smasher using Rebecca’s guns. Now it is truly personal
- Rebecca was almost not added to the show. When Trigger first gave the character concept to CD Projekt, they looked at her small stature and said she had a loli character design and that lolis don’t fit in the Cyberpunk world. Trigger insisted that “The loli stays!” and so she did.
- In episode 6 you mentioned the detail of focusing on Lucy in the car while the action is taking place and about her survivor’s guilt. But there are more layers to it, when you have the context that the whole mess took place because of her actions.
She short-circuited Tanaka to protect David. This short-circuit was what interfered with their jammer and allowed the Trauma Team to get the signal.
If David had not survived after going for Maine, Lucy would’ve lost everything for nothing while sitting in that car.
There are other details that make it worth it to re-watch episode 6. Like Lucy acting surprised and worried asking “What? Why?” when David says they stabilised Tanaka. This reaction only makes full sense when you have the context given later

"The loli stays" thing was a hoax. CDPR originally turned her diwn because they thought she was too brash and wouldn't fit with the team composition, not because she "looked like a loli" (because she doesn't?)

A year later so you prolly won't see this, but I want you to know that you can find David's memorial in Cyberpunk 2077 now. The epitaph says: "You didn't take me to the moon, but you were there with me."

i was holding up until they started playing the song, it took me literal days to recover and give that song a listen without tearing up again
Yeah.... felt pretty empty afterwards. Couldn't listen to that song for a while without feeling like I lost a friend.

This story really resonates with a lot of men because of David's journey from boy to man, having to become something he wasn't to protect and provide for those he loves, in the end giving his whole life so those he loves can survive and reach their dreams. What a legend. Also that song hits you right in the feels. so good.
I love how even in his cyberpsychotic state, David still had enough of him left to reject Smasher's offer. I can't help but feel that Smasher maybe had a little bit of respect for David in that moment (just a tiny bit though) before killing him.
David seemed to be completely sane during his convo with smasher at the end. Adam literally punched off all the tech that was making David go psycho so he returned to normal

At the very least, Smasher respected the amount of chrome David had. Metal is Better than Flesh after all.
oh yeah without question. If Smasher had no respect for David he would've just made him a construct anyway, but he acknowledged that he actually kind of enjoyed the fight and made him an offer, then accepted the refusal and just ended him immediately. From someone like Adam Smasher thats basically a glowing 5 star review.
Being told I was "gifted", or "special", or that I could "do anything you want," and it destroyed me as a kid. I believed it, but I had ADHD, and no one knew what to do. So I just kept on thinking it was my fault for underperforming. Now I have a personality disorder ontop of it all, so...yay!
The tragedy of David's character hit me so hard!

Their insight about david was actually eye opening and really hits far too close to home. Since I too struggle with ADHD, the pressure to keep up and perform as good if not better than the rest was always an internal war that I had to deal with daily, almost like "be normal if not better or become a failure" which is emotionally not that different from "do (become) or die"
Now that I've heard this, its now even more personal and painful than how I originally experienced edgerunners prior to not noticing it.
The tears that were shed felt refreshing.
As someone who have ADHD too I truly feel it has only made me even better. Yes during childhood and adolescence it was pretty rough, bad grades on things that didn't interested me, zoning out REALLY easily, etc. But as an adult, I feel that dealing with ADHD has given me an incredible framework and strength to deal with work/tasks that I am truly so much better of a person than I could've ever been. I truly see it as if it gave me mental super powers.
Don’t feel alone adhd and personality disorder aswell both sides of my grandparents had it so it passes down to me in my early 20’s so it’s just starting to ramp up. Good luck to everyone struggling hopefully I have a meaningful and badass ending like David.

At least you could cry, I couldn't cry even when I wanted, so much emptiness about the ending. 10/10 anime.
Crying again so hard with you both. I think I listened to the ending song over and over for a week. This anime hit me so hard emotionally and I had grown so attached to Rebecca. Thank you both. You both captured the themes perfectly.
It's been weeks already. I cannot get over the ending. I honestly can't think of a single other media that had this lasting effect on me.
I loved the game and expected something at least good, but nothing could've prepared me for this.
Many other media does a similar thing however this is the first time for me personally in a while having this feeling of wanting more

Man kiwi is such a misunderstood character. She didn't want to betray anyone. What happened was Faraday knew kiwi was a skilled runner from manes crew so he hired her to help him with his job which was to catch the ghost runner killing arasaka runners. Kiwi did not know at the time that it was Lucy because Lucy didn't tell anyone. Kiwi found out it was Lucy at the ambush but at that time she couldn't turn back. If she had Faraday would report to arasaka that kiwi botched the plan or if she killed Faraday arasaka would know that kiwi did it either way she would be hunted by a corporation for the rest of her life. As soon as she accepted the job she was doomed to betray her friends or die. Any other action from kiwi would have resulted in her being hunted down by a corporation. After she learned she was betrayed as well her final action was to make sure everyone knew what was up. Night city isn't a place that gives you a choice.
The scene with Lucy on the moon alone without david and realizing her dream is not that good without david broke my hearts so frakin much. One of the saddest scenes in a series by far!
I sobbed at the ending. I was so blown when Becca died. She was such a great character. Excellent show and for those who looked past all the criticism of the game and played it will find this even more enriching.

There’s something comforting in seeing how I’m not the only guy who was bought to tears by this show. In a society we’re we are told to just laugh or smile, it’s good to be able express our sadness and our tears. You are all awesome!

I kinda hope this story ends here. If there's a season 2, keep it separate from this story. At most have Falco and Lucy cameo, maybe even V, but I want newer concepts and characters. It'd be cool if they pull a Love Death Robots and have different animation studios work on it. I'd personally love to see some cyberpunk body horror / psychological horror to explore the fashion and culture of that world. Edgerunners did a good job at visualizing cyberpsychosis that it'd be cool to iterate more on that theme and see how it looks, beyond murdering people in glorious and explosive fashion, and show the terrifying nature of seeing someone both physically and psychologically morph into something gross and inhuman.
I hope wee never see Lucy again, and I can just believe she found peace and joy. Definitely have Falco in the next gang though!
I can guarantee they won't continue this story, it's gone as far as it will go. There's plenty more perspectives in Night City to follow. They could do a Maxtac season of a reformed Cyberpsycho like the reveal trailer for Cyberpunk 2077. Lots of possibilities, if Trigger want to do it of course.
If im correct, mike pondsmith has a library of cyberpunk side stories which are canon so its possible they might get one of those stories
@@Tom-su4tc CD Projekt Red can always write them another story. That's what they did for Edgerunners.
For the horror, they should do one based on something like the Malstromer who went CP after the blood ritual. Like have them have an AI that "haunts" them like Johnny does V and they start to break down.
I have watched this series 5 times. I have cried every time. I am also a guy, and my wife tells me I am an ugly crier, still cry every time.
Same, my wife got home from work like 5 min after I finished the show. I was crying hard on the couch and she thought someone died. Took like 10 min to explain it was from this show.
@@Medic99z I think it's just something about how relatable David is. Dude just wanted to make everyone proud and safe. Only difference is, if I chromed up with a Sandy I would've killed that punk ass at Arasaka Academy. Especially after his call the day before. Not to mention the family he made with the Edgerunners. The fact that Maine was able to use the very last of his sanity he had left to talk to David shows how much he cared about David. Shit hit home ngl.
One of the few animes that made me actually feel actual sadness. Studio Trigger did a amazing job! Hopefully they will do another anime for Cyberpunk! Also, praying Lucy makes it into the expansion 🙏🏼

This show fully broke me. I was a hardcore fan of CP2077 since it launched, despite its issues. I had super high hopes for Edgerunners and it delivered.
But man it really made me realize, there are no happy endings in Night City. It really is a prison, and it immersed me so much more realizing that. I still haven't gotten it in me to jump back into Night City yet since watching.
Rebecca was the ultimate ride or die. She loved David and knew he'd never look her way, and you can see the exact moment when she knows she won't make it back, and goes anyway. She died helping him get his love back and loved him to the end.
I found this channel recently because of the reactions to Cyberpunk edgerunners, and it has definitely been an amazing new journey for me, to be able to experience seeing others go through the same thing I went through while watching the series, I feel better now knowing that I wasn't the only one left heartbroken and empty, thanks Nerdy and Clarus keep up the hard work!
Anyone else notice how often “I really wanna stay at your house” plays in 2077? I get in a car, it’s playing on the radio. I get out and start running to my objective, it’s playing somewhere on the streets. I’m like “whyyyyyy!?!? 😭”

the fact trigger started making this before the game was even in alpha just shows that the staff and artists behind this gave everything and became a passion project.

Yep, although the pre-production of getting the script right took them more than twice as long. The art itself was relatively quick, they're an experienced studio after all.

I'm just glad Kiwi tried to redeem herself in the end by giving her crew the location, one of my favourite characters and it's sad that she died to the same code she lived by, bit her in the end.
I'm right there with you dude, finally finished this show yesterday and omg, I was tearing up throughout the whole finale and finally broke down during that moon shot of David and Lucy. Also when Becca died, she didn't deserve that, I thought she was gonna make it

I thought of something the other day, but didn't want to say it until you'd seen the end. During the first episode you mentioned that they didn't show how David was special to make you care about him as a character. I realized they turned it around, during the whole series they made you care about David, and during this last episode they showed why he was special. Even with all the cybernetics, and everything he went through, and the medicine that he was told would shoot him past the event horizon of cyberpsychosis, he still pulled himself together and stayed himself even at the end.
Also, I heard Mike Pondsmith said that if David's mother hadn't died, or if David had been involved with Rebecca, who was constantly there for him and supportive, instead of Lucy, who was more aloof and distant, David wouldn't have ever been at risk of cyberpsychosis.
So, Rebecca was, apparently, confirmed as the best girl.
Not sure if I have already posted this, but I really suggest watching the end credit, it tells an interesting story. I like to think of it as the aftermath of the opening, especially after the final episode. The credit song is on my playlist, it's amazing. I tear up more during this song than "I really want to stay at your house"

This show was amazingly written, with tons of action and one of the best love stories I’ve ever seen. I’ve never cried over any sort of movie or TV show until I watched the final episode of Edgerunners.

This absolutely crushed me too, I've been into the franchise for a while with the ttrpg and what not but none of that material, the roleplaying or the video game hit me quite like this anime did.
Great reaction series guys - definitely subbing for future content.
It was a real pleasure watching you two go through the same feelings i went, it certainly was an incredible journey and the show hit me hard on many levels also due to it reflecting lots of things in real life. I started working out again more in earnest due to reading a sentence someone wrote of what to do to cope with the show. "Work out so you can one day get your Lucy to the moon without going cyberpsycho along the way." God bless!
I love Cyberpunk narratives so much. I knew what was coming and it still hit like a truck- the dire world and dire circumstances suffocating the individual but people doing the absolute best they can in their circumstance, and finding love and little victories.. despite it all. 😭
Just literally discovered you guys today after finishing watching the show myself this morning. I had heard people were recommending it, but hadn't looked too much into it to avoid spoilers. I honestly wasn't ready for the show to hit as hard as it did. It was painfully beautiful. I honestly think I enjoyed it more than Arcane just because of how unexpectedly I found myself caring for the characters. Don't get me wrong, Arcane is still very good (especially those visuals), but the characters didn't resonate the same with me as Edgerunners did. Seeing David grow into such a memorable character so fast. Seeing Lucy change as she got the feels (even stopped smoking because he didn't like it). The descent of Maine, Rebecca's tough yet caring side towards David in the last couple episodes. Everything was just beautiful. It was so quick of a show but so dense in the roller coaster it took us on.
Just for Context there is a way to Cure Cyberpsychosis.
Mike Pondsmith, the guy who created Cyberpunk has said that cyberpsychosis can be cured by love.
It's Human connection that helps a person recover from it and love is the strongest form of connection.
That is why David is this resistant, his Love for Lucy litteraly keeps him sane.

I loved the series and had not played any Cyberpunk prior to this series. It was an exceptional treat for an avid anime fan. As a solo viewer, balling in private always makes the emotional connection that much more deep. Damn do I feel for David, Lucy, Rebecca… 🥹
10 episodes 20 mins each and it made millions of people feel something and in my opinion it makes it a masterpiece. Also the fight at the end was no fight it was just Adam Smasher being the Boogeyman to David and the crew, loved it.

I bawled my eyes out watching this show, and re balled my eyes out watching you all watch it here. I love the cyberpunk genre, and with the new 1.6 patch out and Edgerunners, it's got me back to playing 2077, and I may actually finish it now. I really wanna play something in this type of world with a ttrpg rule set. You guys be safe.

Glad you let it all out guys, personally I was thinking I wasn't going to cry but when the ost started playing with Lucy in the moon it broke me and I couldn't stop until the ending had finished.

That crosswalk scene with David is the same metaphor they use with Maine and the end of the road symbolization. It's done quicker here and much more brash, but it's the same thing.

It’s been a week and I still can’t get over the pain this anime impaled my soul with. Not even the most memorable deaths from my fav animes and top hit animes managed to hurt me as much as Cyberpunk Edgerunners 😔

Great reaction, pretty much same as me since I actually choked up myself at the ending and it almost got me to the point of being depressed lol. Such great storytelling and the characters were so well done that you care about each and everyone of them after just 10 - 20 minute episodes. Well done to studio Trigger, you got me good..
In the last scene where Lucy was standing on the moon. She didn’t remember how David died, but rather how he lived.

I have the pleasure of being friends with Mike Pondsmith and I remember sitting down with him at a BBQ we were having and he spent like 2 hours talking about his start making Cyberpunk and the world, then how impressed he was with CDProject Red and how they created Night City... his time in Japan and what he thought of the Characters. That is basically how it is in Night City, a dystopian city filled with opportunists trying to get ahead or get out. "It's not about saving humanity, it's about saving yourself" Mike Pondsmith.
Evelyn is a prime example of the Night City life. She took the opportunity to try and get out, but she failed, and in the end, paid the ultimate sacrifice... herself. A tribute song I attribute to Evelyn is from the group Cannons I heard after her ordeal was called "Holding On" It sort of fits her and Judy. Men Cry all the time brother, on the battlefield, with their family, and with the ones they love. USMC Veteran. Marines 3/3! Semper Fi.
This is why I love this game, spending hours just wandering around, immersing myself in what it would be like to live in a place like Night City. good music, scenery, and lots to look at. RP'ng the game as how I would live in it... trying to save myself and make enough eddies to get out, or get that penthouse suite. Cheers! love the channel!

@@matthewchristian9591 no season 2 announcement. They said they’re excited to keep developing the cyberpunk IP though, which is good. Might’ve just dropped everything if this show had bombed.
@@matthewchristian9591 The collaboration between Studio trigger and CDPR began in 2018, maybe even earlier. They planned to only make one season and no more, I actually think a good decision and can produce better story. Of course I want to see more adventures based on Cyberpunk and this IP, but this may affect quality of the show. Maybe one day we can see a new story in night city, but the journey of Lucy&David is ended.😭
They only could make a new Cyberpunk means a new protagonist

I loved this show I also cried on episode 10, David had a great arc from losing his mom to losing main while carrying there legacy's because lost them but falling for Lucy made him live somewhat in the moment and find his own dream which is giving her a happy life for her going to the moon, he even died for there shared dream that is true love if you ask me, while giving his death meaning as in completing mains and gloria's dreams by always running and getting to the top of atoka tower and getting back at the Corparation, love your vids keep up the content
In a way David did win! He made it to the top of Arasaka Tower, he finished the job that Maine worked for, he got Lucy to the moon! Most of all he was 100% sane before he died
Couldn’t agree more! David was finally able to save someone. He went out on his own term, without losing himself to cyberpsychosis.
As Lucy and Maine said earlier in series, Cyber Punks don’t become legends due to how they live. They are remembered for how they die. David became a legend in the finale. Pouring one out for the choom.
