Sandevistan is a temporary status effect that can be activated on demand. It is designed to be primarily used bladed melee weapons. By default, Sandevistan will slow down time to a certain percentage for a set duration. Some variants may increase Crit Chance and Crit Damage.

@@bionicalloy1619 A lot of people had reaction boosters in 2020. Kerenzikov boosters were always on and gave you +1 or +2 Initiative. Sandevistan were activated in bursts of 5 rounds, but gives you +3.
By comparison, solos had a special skill that increased their Initiative. Running into street thrash solos with +5 initiative from that skill was nothing strange.
If you whacked the players with a eurosolo with +10 Initiative from nothing but skill, experience and instinct they would wreck us chrome-thrash with only a sandevistan.

@@ilikeceral3 There was rules for surgery requirements for cybernetics, from popping in to the equialent of a complicated piercing at a tattoo shop to a clinic with weeks of recovery.
Each piece of tech in the game was assumed to come in several different models. On top of that, street tech is often repurpoused from several different bits or customized.
How much Humanity Cost an implant gave you was random. A Mr. Studd would give you two six-sided dice of HC, where every ten accumulated HC loses you one Empathy. This was the same regardless of surgery. Your physical recovery does not relate to how alienated from the human condition you get.
In an optional rule you could splurge for therapy to better adapt to your new, dehumanized body. The orgs who sponsor a full-body cyborg often add therapy if they can, so their enormous investment won't just turn to an uncontrollable berserker.

    • @cristianestrada708
      @cristianestrada708 Год назад +355

Well, he was void in that regard since the beginning of the story. He didn't have dreams of his own, but he actually never tried to find one. I think that the reason for that is that he always thought of himself as a nobody without possibilities... even when he said repeatedly that he was special because of the lack of Sandevistan's secondary effects, he never used those powers for his own direct benefit but for the benefit of someone else: he was a pleaser.
And at the end, I think that is confirmed when Adam Smasher tells him that he could be a good Contruct, but David responded with "I don't care".
Also, he was not a hero, he never cared about others, but just for the people that apparently cared about him, and even that said, he urged them to put their lives in danger... like he did with Lucy that retired from being a cyberpunk but he wanted to do heists with her. Why would he want to do that if his goal was to protect her? That's because he was very selfish.
I think that David was a very interesting character but the reason for that is because he was just a tool for the story to progress. He was a chosen one for the plot's sake. He lived, progressed and died the same way as many other secondary characters.
As if the moral of the story is that it doesn't matter how special you feel you are, life will be harsh and unfair for everyone without exception in Night City.

@@cristianestrada708 I agree with many of your points, but not all, for one, the way David is depicted is really resembling of the sort of society boys in the third world like south America (David's Origin) are raised. Precisely a mother who works hard for them to study, imparting in them wills that aren't days, leading them to live a life that's not their own, for the majority of their life, it is just 'cope'. Your placed in this shitty environment and you have to find a way to cope... David did everything he could with what he was presented, there was an enhancement, he could have sold it cheap but choose to implant it, choose to follow Lucy, was betrayed and choose to be of use to them and become a criminal, choose to use a gun despite his mother's teachings to survive, he did whatever he could to cope... until that became his reality. The scene with Lucy in which he says that a ticket to the moon is cheaper than he expected was a clear indication that he could have retired, but the city had already engulfed him and corrupted him, he didn't want to leave the city with Lucy (her desire), he wanted her to live that reality with him, in the end, they were just opposite sides, she wanted to leave (take him to the moon with her), he wanted to stay (be an edgerunner with her, he even said verbally that he preferred her over Kiwi). But none of the two wanted it without the other... Lucy knew she couldn't convince him to leave, so she protected him from the dark; David also stopped inviting her to participate in their crimes until he was asked to do so... they were in a stalemate of not moving forward but David was getting worse and worse and Lucy knew this but couldn't do anything, when she finally thought it was enough David was long gone and wouldn't stop using the implants. The whole shit is too tragic, in the end, the one to blame is the city, if CDPR ever makes an expansion in which you can nuke the whole damn place, I'll buy the console, game and expansion just to do that.

"You're still fighting for other people's dreams". (Not to mention he has a warped view of his mother's dream for him). But it goes for all these cyber guys. The itch to keep improving and getting more and more. Even though they know that it's not a matter of if but when, for cyberpsychosis. But David believed he was special on top of it all, too. Not really, as the player using a Sandevistan you can do the same as David and if you improve it with heatsinks you get unlimited sandevistan uptime without going cyberpsycho or receiving health damage, the latter happens to David because he installed the Sandevistan without proper training, meanwhile the ripperdocs in the game won't install you the sandevistan if you don't meet the minimum requirements unlike David's shady ripperdoc who in fact wanted him to go mad or die from using it. V from the game would wipe the floor with David even worse than Adam Smasher did. Besides David's sandevistan is probably the mk2 at best.

nope, cyberpsychosis were already killing david, in the last mission david said to rebecca that he needed that rebecca inject in him the drug to stay alive, but the doc say to him that when he uses the last dose of antipsycho drug, he will became psycho forever, so david take the big work to pay the future of lucy and the others, it was his final work so he wanted to be a job with a pretty good payment to do it, and david almost were psycho because he had changed too many parts of his body to cyberware, he had legs with charged jump, sandevistan, mini launcher in one hand, and several upgrades in his body, in one time the doc said to him that he need to update his cyberware to a more recent and optimized versions because he were in options to develop cyberpsychosis earlier because usually older cyberware stress more the body, in the game is stated that V has minimalistic cyberware even if you put something on every part of your body, but he/she had not mixed cyberware, and he/she is used to have major upgrades because his/her brain were rebuild by nanomachines to let the brain be used by the engram of johnny silverhand, and to can upgrade him in more ways, it was the relic developed by arasaka for rich and powerful people so it was put in mind that those people were going to get more cyberware than any other people to live more time, that is why V did not develop cyberpsychosis when even chippin all his/her body, because his/her brain were able to support those changes because of the relic implant.

I like the mirror between Simon from Gurren Lagann and David from Edgerunners.
Simon in his character arc, wanted to live up to people's expectations and worked so hard for it to the point where he couldn't fight anymore.
What ended up happening is that he had an awakening where he realized, he doesn't have to live up to people's expectations of him to become the new Kamina, just fulfill his own expectations of himself and embrace himself as Simon the Digger.
David is like if Simon never had that awakening of him realizing that he doesn't need to fulfill other people's expectations of him.
He thought himself as someone "special", and as someone "special", you feel the need to fulfill everyone's expectations for you.
He never had that awakening Simon got, and instead of listening to his body that told him he couldn't fight anymore, he just kept moving forwards, in an attempt to please Maine, his mom, and Lucy's expectations for him.
And eventually, it leads to his death. And although, tragic, he did end up fulfilling everyone's wishes at the end.
One is a Tragic Hero, about a man who found himself, and saved the world, but ended up losing the love of his life for it.
While the other is a Heroic Tragedy, about someone "special" who got too caught up fulfilling everyone's expectations, that it ended up with his brains scattered across the pavement.
But at the end of the day, both their stories ended with them smiling, one had fulfilled himself, while one had fulfilled everyone's expectations that they had for him. Both will be remembered as legends til the end of time.

During the chase in episode 3, and judging by all the fast moves David made and us seeing him use it, my best guess is that he used his Sandevistan 15 times. At that with the times before and after the chase, David used it 17 times, which is almost 6 times more than what his ripperdoc's recommended limit.

From what I remember of 2020, the sandevistan implant didn't make you faster. It improved your Initative by +3, making you react faster than the world around you. You experience the world in slow motion, but you are not moving in super-speed apart from other objects in it. You activated it for bursts of five rounds or so.
There was another model as well, kerenzikov boosters. They were a lot harder on your Humanity Cost since they were always on and you lived permanently in a weird time distortion. Their bonus was +1 or +2. On the plus side, they were always on. Both were neuralware, so you got to have a neuralware system to plug them into. And you couldn't have both kerenzikov and sandevistan, they are doing the same thing but placing the strain slightly differently.
As a comparison, an experienced solo could get a skill that increased their Initiative. Solos with +5 or +7 were easily playable or encountered on the street, even +10 Initiative from pure skill and street experience existed in the world. But when solos face other solos, they value every edge they can get. Winning Initiative often determined entire firefights, you get to be just a fraction of a second faster when rolling into cover or lining up a shot on the other bloke.
You could get an adrenal booster on top of those. +1 Reflexes (and therefore Initiative) a few times a day so not all that often compared to the pure neuralware.

I wonder how long he would have lasted if he just kept with his original mod? Maybe do a couple of light body reinforcements such as the bones or muscle, just enough to handle a little more than normal and call it good. Dude probably could've lived for awhile that way.
