My 2007 Lincoln Mark LT was getting harder to steer. I (wrongly) assumed it was the power steering pump. In the process of replacing it I noticed the lower end of the steering shaft was really rusted. I ran across your video, ordered the right part, and WOW!!! It turns like when it was new! The old pump was probably not the cause because the old steering shaft was really binding. THANK YOU!!!!

My 2011 Lincoln Navigator's was tight, like driving manual steering. Before buying the shaft I tried spaying WD-40 on both universals. 2000 miles later and still smooth as new. Apparently it was simply a rust issue and not needle bearings in the joint. So I'll change it if it does fail.

Many people (myself included) have reported issues with steering wheel alignment after changing this shaft. After many an hour researching this, it appears to be an issue with the cheap replacement shafts not being "clocked" appropriately to OE spec. In my experience the cheap ones will almost certainly move your steering wheel off center to the left or right about 5-15° (this can potentially be corrected with an alignment). They will also likely introduce significant play into your steering wheel. Maybe you'll be the lucky guy who gets a "good" cheap one, but if your luck is like mine save yourself the time and headache and just buy the OEM shaft from Ford (it was dead on). Hope this helps some folks. I just had the same issue.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We are looking at doing this replacement and my husband ALWAYS goes the cheapest route. I read him your comment. Thanks again.

@@MsC-ol7zu Always go with the Motorcraft brand part when repairing these trucks. You save yourself doing the job again shortly later after the cheap part fails.

Hey thanks for the video. I wonder what's next if this does not work? I replaced my intermediate steering shaft (2011 F150) but after driving it 15-20 min. and thinking all is good, turns out it is still binding. Any ideas? Does it need an alignment? Possibly reprogramming as they do with the rack and pinion? Thanks

hey is this the part that is like 70 bucks on amazon? did you have steering wheel alignment issues after?

    • @TylerCary

About $50 on Amazon or local parts store. No alignment issues if you make sure to keep the wheel in place

The cheap ones are not clocked to OE spec and will almost certainly throw off your steering wheel alignment. I just went through this with 2 separate cheapers. Got the OEM from Ford and it was dead on.
