I want somewhere very quiet, nice non aggressive or rude people.I hate the beach. I like lakes, rivers, and mountains. Snow. I don't like yuppie areas either or neighbors close to each other. But I'd take a yuppie area over a ghetto one. I hate Florida weather.
Everything you are describing is pretty much north central Florida if you are coming from south florida. There's lots of country and backwoods to find land or a cheaper living environment. You'll have a well and septic. Hard freeze in winter. 20 minute drive to the nearest city or town. No recycling pick up but there's trash pick up. You'll get cooler weather and more forecast days than south fl. People dont drive like lunatics either. Lots of gun owners and southern accents. Quiter as well. Downsides are yes Florida is a jungle on a giant sand bar. You'll need to maintain your property, unless you lllive in a smaller city.
We live in Decatur and I'm so over everything. The traffic, high cost, crowded, etc. I've been looking at places WAY outside (more north-ish or east-ish). But everywhere still seems so expensive and I've even been looking far away at jobs and whatnot just to get an idea but it's so hard to figure out where would be a nice place or if it's even realistic for us to be there. I told my Husband we need to write a list of things we can and cannot deal with when trying to find where to live lol. I don't know how else to go about it.
It’s b. s. that people drive slower. Tourists drive slower but natives drive faster and often recklessly (passing on curvy roads with double yellow lines). Due to lack of police there isn’t any speed enforcement on most roads.
Was in north Ga last May. Twice tried driving from Florida and it was awful. Have been looking and it appears flying into Chatanooga TN and driving from there is way cheaper and less stressful than Atlanta. Most depressing thing I have found is that the Investors are ruining alot of peoples dreams of buying there. Building lots are being bought up and the following month they are listed for sale at 3 times the original purchase price. Guess it comes to location, location. Will be back in the spring to view properties that hopefully do not have to be built on with in 3 months of purchasing which is becoming somewhat the norm.
Stayed in Morganton last year.Seemed like it was nice being 15 -20 minutes north or south will get you to food, gas, etc. Also seemed to be a little more laid back than Blue Ridge.@@livinginnorthgeorgiawtimgi2664
North GA is a popular destination for motorcycle riding on the east coast. Here's a list of 7 great rides from Viking Bags: www.vikingbags.com/blogs/news/7-best-motorcycle-rides-in-the-north-georgia-mountains
We are really close to pulling the trigger on heading to north Georgia. Grew up in a small town in Florida and that small town is no more.
I’d be happy to help once you decide to make the switch
I am giving serious thought to a move northward myself and I am a Florida native. I appreciate these videos for sure...much to consider.

You gave me all the reasons for moving to north Georgia!😊
Retired...healthy, hiking gal doesn't need much!
Glad to hear it!

That sounds like a great start!

What areas are you focusing on for your search?

I like the slower pace, but I hope there are quite a few sunny days throughout the year.
There are plenty of sunny days. Just get a little dreary in the winter. It’s currently 65 and sunny!
Where is the best city for a family of 3, looking for good school, and low to no crime area , beautiful ambiance. @livinginnorthgeorgiawtimgi2664
That sounds real good right now 😁
Wife and I are looking at North Georgia for retirement in a couple years
Best source for researching these topics would be niche.com and datausa.io. Give me a call if you need some more help!
Do you have any videos on Dalton?
Any good motorcycle riding out there?

Do the lakes have gators or snakes? I don't miss the beach.
No alligators that are aware of
