Any report on number of metro projects in Mumbai not completed or not even gone beyond few pillars for more than 2 years since the launch date? E.g Thane metro -- pillars but no sign of work since a long time . Project seems to be moving only in Govt offices for release of funds & on paper n news as update. But ground reality very different This status quo when Thane is the stronghold of CM Shinde & family since long !

Delhi has best metro network. Bengaluru is believed to have best sub urban railway (under construction now). But when it comes to current sub urban rail + metro + mono rail (future) + bullet (future, though it's inter city), Mumbai will have the best network

Delhi currently has 400 km of functioning metro lines and 100 kms in a very advanced stage of construction which means next year NCR will have 500 km of metro lines. And then there are other lines in plan. Now, You are still talking about Metro construction in Mumbai and other cities whereas Delhi is getting in fact has already got the next level of rail called RRTS or RapidX. The first section opened a few days back and full 82 km of Delhi Meerut line will open by 2025. Metro has average speed of 45 kmph whereas RapidX would have average speed of 100 kmph. RapidX and Metro combined would make travel much faster. We have Delhi Suburban also quite like Mumbai locals but it's barely needed and so in shambles, we cannot travel like cockroaches any more (sorry, harsh but true words). You have to beat Delhi, you beat in other areas but here every other city has a very long way to go before it comes close to Delhi. I really hope someday Mumbai has a better metro system than Delhi because it needs it much more than Delhi.

Delhi has by far the best Metro/and in the future intercity network (besides also having some of the best roads in the country), however the reality is that Mumbai needed these things much more than Delhi. Hopefully all major cities (and even smaller ones) get good infrastructure soon as this will make life for the working/salaried class much easier, and also promote business investments.

The reasons for all your questions. The potholes will constantly arise as its coastal land so bottom soil keeps shifting and sinking ever so lightly every year. Traffic jams will be constant as its a scientific law that more roads lead to even more cars and thus increase traffic. Water logging is obvious because of coastal low lying area and illegal past destruction of natural mangrove protection for Adani gold course and many more projects.

Mangrove coastal theory about land stabilization is an enviro fraud unproven theory. Again major coastal cities in the world do not have mangrove forests. The reality is bad urban planning, not reclaiming land where needed and expanding land, allowing slums to take up large spaces, poor utilization of available land, poor mainland connectivity etc are the main reasons for the chaos in Mumbai. Mumbai just needs to look at Tokyo to solve its issues. Slums must be redeveloped and land put to high economic use asap, that is the #1 problem holding Mumbai back.

Its also about the natural geography. Mumbai was not a whole big island previously but an archipelago which was terraformed into one island in parts. Think of it as more like an island. Secondly the planning that had to be done in the 1960-1980s was completely missed to a large extent giving problems of land encroachments, mangrove destruction which act as natural sea and flood barriers for a particular business man’s golf course famously. So the bottom soil is not stable for a lot of required underground projects. Also another factor is the population density and zoning. You need to take a comprehensive picture. Im not saying its impossible to do scientifically, but all I see is Ahemdabad getting special privileges from what actually needs to be fixed.

Up to 16 metro lines is a very good start but that just has to be the beginning. I wouldn't be surprised if you needed at least 50 lines in total to satisfy the need.
By 2035 I hope all top 10 cities have a 100km/h metro with over 250km of the cities covered. I also hope all cities in india are fitted with Large Sidewalks and decrease the car lanes to make a more livable city... This is the future, no matter how many lanes you build cars will keep on coming, the only roads I support are major highways and fly overs like in America where they don't take space on ground but instead on bridge. I hope we have Europe level standards where we never need cars and just walk and take electric skateboards everywhere like in New York and Europe. This is my dream india, I hope I can return to a beautiful country
A correction: Anand Nagar on Metro line 2 [yellow] is east of the Western Subarban line [purple]. It is correctly shown on the geographic map but incorrectly shown on the simplified version.
And that thing would anger people to another level. See, everyday 200 people migrate to Mumbai, so the population is increasing like hell. Moreover, not all people would be able to pay for the metro. Metro is costly! That is why people still move around in local trains or wait at the bus stop for half an hour just because the ticket costs only rs.5 for nearly 5 to 6 kms. Above that, Mumbai is built around the railway lines. Hone ke liye dheere dheere ho sakta hai, but transition mei Jo abhi ho rha hai. I live in the central line so will speak for it, Ghatkopar aur CST rebuild hone wala hai. Ghatkopar ka toh kaam bhi chalu hogya. If they can afford to give AC train services at the same nominal cost then it'll be sensible.

Great Info video. Line 7 metro alignment is incorrect -> After Airport Colony it goes to Terminal 2 and not Terminal 1. Terminal 1 was an old on paper alignment but not in reality. Similarly line 3 and line 6 does not meet at Seepz instead they will at Seepz Village station. Seepz and Seepz Village (missing on the map) are two separate stations. Similar observation for Line 4 as well, they meet at Wadala station not Sweree
The metro acts as a relief system for parallel running north south lines and then branches out into smaller neighborhoods where broad guage doesn’t serve
You cannot have a city of 25 million people with only suburban lines. Look to how Tokyo it's done and how the Kanto area moves more than 40 million people a day. Your goals and targets should be to see what China is doing and aim for that level and see what the Japanese have already created. Everytime I visit Mumbai something new has come up. What remains constant from 80's is potholes, traffic jams and water logging.

Great Info video. Line 7 metro alignment is incorrect -> After Airport Colony it goes to Terminal 2 and not Terminal 1. Terminal 1 was an old on paper alignment but not in reality. Similarly line 3 and line 6 does not meet at Seepz instead they will at Seepz Village station. Seepz and Seepz Village (missing on the map) are two separate stations. Similar observation for Line 4 as well, they meet at Wadala station not Sweree
