    Great channel and great content! Having just built a pretty nice SCX24 crawler rig, I'd like to build my first 1/10 crawler starting from a RTR. Ive got 4 choices thay are reasonably priced here: SCX10.2 Deadbolt, SCX10.3 Base Camp, Element SE Sendero, and Redcat Everest Ascent. I am wondering which you would go with, considering vehicle geometry, and upgrade path.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks, glad you enjoyed this one. Also check out my Deadbolt vs BC comparison here: ruclips.net/video/gig8VwjEgM0/видео.html
      I can't get the Ascent in Australia yet. I'm expecting to see it in stores by April, hopefully.
      I think I'd go with the Base Camp, from this selection of 4. It's already running a bunch of standard parts that the Deadbolt would like, and it's more capable than both Deadbolt and Sendero out of the box.
      Again, can't comment on Ascent as I know little about it, but BC for me from this list.
      If you can get the Ecto for decent money, I'd consider it vs Base Camp as the two most compelling options. Both have high performance out of the box.
      Lastly, this comparison may be useful too:

      The stuff that breaks on these things is broadly replaceable without needing to be brand named (motor, servo, tyres). The Enduro family has a lot of cross over so parts availability will only be an issue for the GK body, if you manage to smash it up somehow. Go for it!

      @@RCTNT I am really old and when people say this is a cheap truck at $300, my reaction is that's not cheap. But, in today's market it is. In many, many, many years gone buy people competing in a market would put out a product significantly more cheaply than their competitors to control the market. I think Associated could do this with this truck.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Год назад +1

      Note I didn't say "cheap", I said "cheaper". I was also careful to qualify this on the video, as $300 is still a lot of money. It was something along the lines of "cheaper option for a big name" for both this and the Deadbolt.
      Of course, $300 in 1990 is worth $700 today, so there's that subconscious attribution of value from a decade ago... crikey, I mean, from 30+ years ago that makes it sound like much more than it is. In 1990 money, this is a $129.99 vehicle - now that's not a bad deal!

      @@RCTNT When you see what happens when Tower Hobbies and Horizon offer r/c cars at a bargain price. They sell out and everything is on backorder. If Associated offered Enduro SE at a much cheaper price they would sell a ton. Especially after people watch reviews like yours. Hobby stores make their money selling parts. Associated would sell more parts and upgrades and the hobby shops would sell more. I think your review can influence your viewers. You have me thinking about the Element. The I watched another RUclipsr who took his Bushido and added a few things and unexpectedly won a tough Class 2 competition. So, I thought that's a good crawler. Cheers mate love the channel

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  12 дней назад +1

      High clearance links are helpful if your current straight links are all scratched and scuffed up - that tells you your car is scraping over obstacles where, with a little more clearance, it might clear over them for an easier drive.
      Pay attention to the position and angle of the rear drive shaft where it inputs to the diff. If it's now exposed with high clearance links, you may get breakages there from impacts that weren't previously as likely.
      If your rear links are mostly unscathed, high clearance links won't do much for you in the same terrain.
      But yes, they generally help. Cheers

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Год назад +1

      No offence taken at all! I could have done both more cleanly - but my driving on camera is almost always worse when I'm trying to talk, let alone track what's happening with the camera, my relative placement to it, what topic I want to feed into next, if there's an obstacle that will demonstrate it that's coming up that I can use, etc etc.
      It's the nature of filming and managing everything myself. If I had a team regularly to help, I'd be able to focus more on just a couple of elements of the production.
      I'm always conscious of the shortfalls on camera but it's quite a task to tie it all together! I'll keep practising and things will gradually improve. It's all I can do :)

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  7 месяцев назад

      Depends on the price but if it's low, that's still a great truck today. The axles are not compatible with the newer ones but the drive shafts are, and the more likely things to wear out all are (links, servo, motor), so I'd expect you'll be fine. IMO, a larger scale like this is better to start with than a smaller car. They can drive more places and take more abuse. Have fun, and welcome to this great hobby!

I know I can go with slightly longer links, but I like the 12" foot print. 305mm links are out there, but are outrageously expensive at about 80 USD for a quality set.
