I hope Yuta and his Iron Valiant team wins, a very unique team and kinda insane this pokemon is now a Worlds finalist over all the other paradox mons that have dominated the format lol, with Iron Valiant mostly being known as a Singles dominant mon. I'm biased since it's my favorite paradox pokemon, but Yuta did say he specifically covered for tera fairy miraidon teams so he seems pretty confident to take it!
The round 1 byes are a bit weird. You get an auto world invite for winning a regional. After that there is no "need" to play more events. For kicks and giggles, Wolfe won a second regional. Yet he still doesn't get a round 1 bye because other guys play in 50 events and just stack points?
well said. they need to give players incentive to participate in several events, though. Maybe every event winner with a certain amount of participants (say, 300+) automatically should get a R1 bye?
The matches on day 2 were insane. I was rooting for Wolfe for obv reasons and Kelsh bc I love Zamazenta and that last match I just felt Kelsh’s tilt on blast. I think the stress really just got to him at the end there. I come from the FGC so coming from a world where double elimination is standard into VGC where it’s a weird asymmetrical/resistance/single elimination bracket is so heartbreaking. I feel like these finals could really go either away - Luca played amazing and I was so happy for his win. Really rooting for him.
I was really rooting for Koraidon the whole Reg G. Unfortunately it did not make it, and that’s a shame, as I feel it had huge potential. Clear Amulet is good and all, but I think running Scarf was a better option, cause not needing to worry about clicking Flame Charge to get faster, and being able to pivot with U-Turn to shake off Intimidates and reapply Sun over and over again are such valuable things… Ps: Collision Course is also worse imo, CC is much, much more consistent against the whole meta.
Wolfe's unfortunateness feels like Marss' run at Smashcon this year- going ao hard agaisnt the worlds best and making it look easy and hes a bout to get top 8...just to lose his next two sets and getting 9th. RIP
nobody going to mention the fantastic Fake Out + Follow Me play from Shiliang Tang game three to prevent the Urshifu from taking Rocky Helmet damage and getting a free switch-in??
@richardthepastamancer6619 I hate fangirls saying that response. It's still cheating; get over it. You didn't do the right away and shouldn't be praised for it. That's exactly like entering a running marathon and taking an Uber to the finish line. Those pokemon weren't caught within the game and aren't natural. Can't support a cheater.
@James.Hill. sadly and that's why I can't support hacks or cheaters. Shame really...would have been an amazing if it was legit. I just hate when players blame there friends or fans for giving them a hack pokemon. Cause it's normal for a "teammate" to give you a modest nature heatran with 6 perfect iv...lazy folks and bad stories/excuses
So VGC community, maybe someone can help me with answering this thing: I recently dabbled a little bit into competitive pokemon and I built my own teams. All good, all comprehensible but one thing I just don’t know how people do it: Building legendary Pokemon for VGC. I mean I get that you catch one of the given legendary (f.ex. Urshifu) and then test on a simulator or sth before building it up. Then you invest your items, go for EV/IV, attacks, item, etc. But then, you play the team and you realize: oh I want to rebuild the EVs, because I evolved my build or I just want to switch my build up for sth different. Now the question: How do players do this? Do they always change the build? Or do they have multiple legendaries of a given Pokemon? And if it’s the latter, how do they get those? Restarting and replaying the games? I seems to me like this is always the one thing building guides tend to ignore.
There are items in game you can use to modify IVs/EVs, the only thing you can't do is reduce an IV (if you wanted a 0 IV attack to negate foul play damage or confusion damage for example). Also, a decent chunk of players will use a cheat engine to add the Pokemon with the right stats into the game, to save the dozens of hours per Pokemon it would take to get the perfect values required, depending on what they are and what the Pokemon is. "im a blisy" on youtube has some great videos on the process of catching competitively viable Pokemon.
Thanks guys for the reply. So if I understand correctly, the correct thing would be to catch the legendary with reduced IVs if it matters for the given Pokemon (since you can always augment but never reduce IV values?) and then alter builds with these ingame berries/items? Or you take the fast lane and cheat the Pokemon. Which I do not consider to do for my own ( but understand those doing so.) And thanks for the tip with « I am Blisy ». Gonna checkt the content out.
Having to watch Wolfe lose in showdown vgc chat was so stupid. The set streamed was over for like 30 mins and I really had no idea what was going on. Didn't help that mods lost their shit and muted the chat (cuz they thought the world would end in chat if Wolfe lost) so no one could relay info. Absolutely no reason it shouldn't have been on a side/co stream-you don't even need commentary.
I predicted the Top 3 picks for worlds being: 1. Miraidon 2. Rillaboom 3. Brian Hands crazy how Rilla is nowhere and Miraidon, who's supposed to get countered by AV Rilla, is everywhere LOL

Resistance is just a bad system tbh. I know this could probably never happen logistically, but I would’ve liked to see all the 9-3 players have like a tiebreaker bracket or something.
I think the current system is as fair as is realistically possible. Everone on the same score gets opportunity to play in top cut. Maybe the tiebreaker should be changed, though? For example to every players win/loss GAME ratio? That way, 2-0s are rewarded slightly above 2-1s.

Wolfe losing out on resistance again is just the worst luck
Competitive vgc is top tier esports material, I don’t know why still so little effort was put into it from a multibillion company.
They don’t even put in proper effort to their games, not surprising they would half-ass their events too.
