Honestly, choice specs with Protect is a lowkey genius in CTS if you don't have a 4th move option that you foresee that mon ever using with how common Knock Off is.
Terapagos was indeed specs. Interesting to run protect on it... Maybe to scout for a turn then switch? Could also be to stop fake out, then switch out. Or that exact scenario where its item gets knocked off. Those are the only logical ways to justify that set imo lmao.
I was running a team with specs CSR and protect in high ladder for a while (actually Jeans featured my team on his channel and team report should be in his comment section)
My guess is they were testing out specs but didnt wanna waste their spent pp ups for protect. But hey, what do I know, I remember james featured a team with choice band scizor with swords dance like a year ago lol. I also ran a detect choice scarf urshifu set in sw/sh, but only because i kept forgetting to replace it with poison jab which i clicked a total of maybe twice after i remembered to change it lmao
@skimaskedabi You can make an argument for protect on a choice set, but swords dance is CRAZY lmfao. Literally only knock off would make that set make sense 🤣
protect on specs terapagos in particular is neet since it’s really only ever clicking starstorm/earth power anyways, and so might as well use one of the spare moveslots for the knock off scenario.
I personally think you shouldn’t be able to use rented teams in ranked , obviously if you get the teams set up and have to grind it yourself then fair enough. But being able to use someone else’s team who won or got in top 100 shouldn’t be allowed.

There are some players that run protect on choice Pokemon because probably expect a knock off is coming and bluff they are choiced

I personally think you shouldn’t be able to use rented teams in ranked , obviously if you get the teams set up and have to grind it yourself then fair enough. But being able to use someone else’s team who won or got in top 100 shouldn’t be allowed.
Unfortunately if you removed rented teams you would lose a ton of players that play ranked.
