As a former ASM (Aviation Structural Mechanic) Tomcat Tuner I'm almost in tears. They grow on you, you live for them & your heart breaks anytime one is hurt. I treat my children & grandchildren like I did my Tomcats. With love and firm soft hands. I'm only sorry I never got to drive one. That's why I chose the rate I did (along with studying engineering) as to hopefully fly the aviation version of the McLaren F-1 even before the McLaren F-1 existed !
My number one all time favorite airshow jet as it is with pretty much anyone who's seen it. I saw one once pull a high G 360 degree turn in full afterburner right on the deck in front of me. I'll never forget the experience.
LOVE IT! I was about to ask the question of wing sweep in flight, but I saw the comment at the top. I had the distinct privilege of working on F-14As back in the late 70s at NAS Point Mugu. At that time, I was a U. S. Navy PR2, parachute rigger. The work on this model is incredibly detailed and brought back all kinds of memories for this ol' squid. Don't ever forget that the only TRUE combat aircraft have tailhooks. 😁
Aww, he didn't sweep the wings back during flight... 😟 Other than that, great flight and beautifully detailed plane. Did like the canopy up while taxing back, that was cool. 😁
Incredible representation of such an iconic and beloved fighter!! Beautifully flown too! Too bad about the LVC issue w the wing sweep - I'm sure he would've loved to have shown that off. Great video and thanks so much for sharing.
Wow it's hard to find one like this where the pilot doesn't just baby it the whole time. There was some wing flex on this one! That thing is super cool. Upvote! Thanks for sharing.
I love scale builds. This is an impressive example. Just working on Mike Patey's Scrappy Bushplane based on a 2.1m CarbonCub. A lot of fun to build. And a crazy number of challenges. RC is one of the best hobbies on this planet😍
Nice Flying noticed you didn't adjust Wings go back. F-14 Definitely My Favorite Plane Full size or Smaller Scale even your RC Jet Engines spool up and down has similar sound.
Chris, so this is the Skymaster you were talking about at our Cane Ridge field when I asked you what your latest rc airplane interest was ! I have a Tomcat sweep wing story to tell you the next time I see you. It took place at Cane Ridge. It got brought down but not by a missile. It was an arrow. Beautiful F14 in this video. Any guess as to the minimum runway length needed for this bird?
Absolutely beautifully done aircraft. She was a hell of a jet in her day. Brings back some good memories. Cameraman I commend you on your video she was a fast mover and you stuck with her the whole way.👌
This is not a model - it is the real thing. Flies better than the real aircraft , has a much more stable center of gravity, and no compressor stalls. Incredible build. Hollywood should be calling you. Unbelievable ..
Question I did 3 coats of polyurethane and there are a lot of rough areas almost whole plane even after coats of poly. Question is when I primer and sand and repeat will that take care of the rough spots? Or is there something else I need to do?
Yeah, the process will help with all of it. The poly hardens up the whiskering and so stabilizes it and the primer/sand process will fill those micro voids from that and the texture. The smoothness will boil down to how many coats you want to apply and sand.
They can. Unfortunately, the pilot was having a problem with it on the ground, so wasn’t able to get it working in flight. According to him, the model really opens up with the wings swept.
Beautiful aircraft👍👍 just not period correct Bullet 100 with that paint scheme would have been F-14"D" with the Navy Common Ejection Seats not GRU-7s also it wout have IRST along with a camera under the nose, The Aircraft presented would have an A+ or a B model.
It’s mentioned in the description, but there was unfortunately a voltage cutoff issue with the swing wing mechanism that would’ve resulted in asymmetric sweep. Just means I’ll have to film it again once that’s fixed! 😊
It was mentioned in the description but the pilot was having technical issues with the wing sweep motors. So, avoiding a potential asymmetric sweep, he kept the wings extended the whole flight. He mentioned that he had to hold it back as with the wings swept he can really open it up and fly it hard.
They do. Unfortunately, he was having a voltage cutoff issue with the actuator and so was unable to sweep them during the flight. He said it really moves with the wings swept.
I mentioned in the description, the pilot had an issue with the mechanism not sweeping symmetrically and hitting a voltage cutoff, so he chose not to sweep them in flight. According to what he was telling me, the airplane really opens up with the wings back. He had to hold it back a bit with the wings out.
Unfortunately there was an issue with the wing sweep they found on the ground that would’ve likely caused an asymmetric sweep. So, he opted not to risk it until it could be fixed.
I get that but it is 100+ inches long. The 1/7 scale isn’t as large in terms of scale, but it’s a similar physical size to the 1/5-1/4 scale warbirds out there.
@@Thercgeek I’ve seen some that look like someone could just open the door and fly it literally. Those are giant this is big. Don’t get me wrong it’s awesome
Since Thercgeek decided to correct me and make fun of my last comment. I misspoke when I said the F-14 did not have flaps. It did in a sense, but what I meant to say was that it DID NOT HAVE AILERONS, which is the correct statement. So now reply with another smart-ass "haha"
I honestly was not making fun of you or your comment, my sincere apologies if it came across that way. You are correct, the airplane did not have ailerons. Thanks!
Well, you are correct in that, but no need to be your typical smart-ass self. I misspoke (I'm 71 so a little leeway please) Ailerons are not fitted, with roll control being provided by wing-mounted spoilers at low speed (which are disabled if the sweep angle exceeds 57°), and by differential operation of the all-moving tailerons at high speed.[42] Full-span slats and flaps are used to increase lift both for landing and combat, with slats being set at 17° for landing and 7° for combat, while flaps are set at 35° for landing and 10° for combat.[42] An air bag fills up the space occupied by the swept-back wing when the wing is in the forward position and a flexible fairing on top of the wing smooths out the shape transition between the fuselage and top wing area.[41] The twin tail layout helps in maneuvers at high angle of attack (AoA) while reducing the height of the aircraft to fit within the limited roof clearance of hangars aboard aircraft carriers.@@Thercgeek
I honestly was not intending any disrespect, so apologies if it was received that way. We are in agreement on the function of the wing elements, so I’m not sure the issue.

I agree with you! I miss those days watching the tomcat rip up the sky.
were you aboard a carrier?
The DEMO F14 did that at most air shows.
That is seriously was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. And that was some amazing flying as well. Wow!
Damn, these new RC models are soo real, can't tell from the real thing!
Beautiful plane and smooth flying.

Other than that, great flight and beautifully detailed plane. Did like the canopy up while taxing back, that was cool. 😁
Agreed! He was having some lvc issues with the wing sweep mechanism. Otherwise he said that the model really comes alive with the wings swept.
Not to mention that folks struggle to keep um in the sky with wings swept. Heck let's make it 5 times faster than sound whil they're at it.
Oh on ! Top Gun with pilot flagging on the deck officer ! Really tight ! Awesome !

I’m so happy to hear that! 😊
My FAVORITE JET of ALL TIME!!!!!!! I LOVE IT!! THANK YOU for the video!!!!
Thanks for watching! It’s one of my all time favorites too. 😊
whatch those high speed turns do need that jet was, looks like tf30s
So awesome man, the tailhook even works!
Gorgeous details and flying. Im in the process of converting one to EDF right now. Should be ready for spring!
You lucky dog! I hope one day I can be just as cool and have one of my own. 😊
@@Thercgeek haha, Im sure you could and we both know you are way cooler than me my friend. 😁😉
Great Maverick and Goose!!!
And, hey look, it’s in the same scheme as the E-Flite twin 40mm F-14. Can’t wait for June for your review on that one, Chris!
Ha, you’re right! I didn’t even catch that.
Even has spoilerons wow 😯

Fantastic model. A pity the video is very low resolution.
This was shot and uploaded at 1080p 60fps, check the playback settings as YT doesn’t always default to max res.
Awesome video 👏
Glad you liked it!
It's always my favorite airshow jet (F-14-tom-cat).

Need to check out Ward Carrol RUclips channel. He give great explanation of difficulty in flying the F14

@@Thercgeek Yes it is a very special plane. If you like, you can follow along the build on my channel. Happy flying🍻
are the front nose wheels door flaps open on this model?
It has the full compliment of landing gear doors. So, everything closes up cleanly when the gear retract.

I think 600’ would be the sweet spot for something like this.
What is the range for the radio? Would be sacred to lose it if I went to far.
You would lose sight of the airplane before you lost control of it.
WOW! This is nerd brilliant for its accuracy of appearance and hipster cool for its grace in performance! What is the scale? How long is the fuselage?
I don’t know the fuse length, but the model is 1/7 scale.

Wow! Simply amazing!
I would love to build and fly this beautiful Skymaster Tomcat!
You and me both! 😊
The Big ONE
Wonder what’s the cost for something like this. Looking to get into RC planes and RC Big Rigs
Well, this particular Tomcat model is about a $15k-$20k model when it’s all said and done. 😬
Holy 💩 that is awesome
Very cool !
Is this the largest scale available ?
I think that is the case for the time being in terms of being commercially available. Skymaster is actually working on a bigger one though.

the real F14A+ B or D didn't have compressor stalls either. They had GE engines and poooooooowerr

It would be great if we could see the ejector seats being deployed, after all the plane itself would be safe from crashing...🤗 🤗

They can. Unfortunately, the pilot was having a problem with it on the ground, so wasn’t able to get it working in flight. According to him, the model really opens up with the wings swept.
Wow - ‘not like it’s slow with them forward!
Amazing! I wonder what top speed is.
What is the cost of creating this type and size of rc aircraft. Always wondered! Help me out here!!
That is about $15k-$20k worth of model flying there.
So how much would a set up like this cost as a turn key?
All up and ready to fly, this particular kit is about a $15k-$20k model.

Why don't you ever sweep the wings in flight?????

Do the wings retract back?
They do. Unfortunately, he was having a voltage cutoff issue with the actuator and so was unable to sweep them during the flight. He said it really moves with the wings swept.

ok but land it on a to scale aircraft carrier RC with arresting cables next time. (or at least simulate it with cords on the ground to catch).
