For the rain scene in the intro, Amity probably didn't even notice the rain at all. Would you care if it rained when you just barely escaped with your life? Plus, your first time at something may not help when you actually try it, so she would still be cautious.
That, and she has been so accustomed to how rain works in the boiling isles, that it has most likely become a reflex or instinct. Imagine if you found yourself on a world were lava is cold, and even if you've been told about before, you would most likely hesitate anyways the first couple of times.
Basically two words:

@@Dan525 Yeah, that was how I interpreted this scene too. I've been kinda surprised to see so few people sharing it in favor of the "they were just in shock and didn't really notice" theory. Hunter also hesitates at the rain before Gus pushes him out the door - and it makes sense that Gus, who's by far the most familiar with the workings of the Human Realm (his misinterpretations notwithstanding) would find it easier to let go of that reflexive fear of rain. Also, Hunter and Amity are both kids who grew up in intensely authoritative environments, and likely would have learned early on that following rules keeps you safe (and both express as much throughout the series). It's hard to let go of sentiments you've held your entire life, even after you change and grow, and that's a really core theme in this show that gets emulated over and over.

The scene of Camila trying to figure out what to feed the kids, reminded me so much of Eda trying to figure out what to feed Luz.
Also, personal Theory is that Lilith's real name is Lillyan and she changed it to distance herself

yep i wasnt sure what flag it was but i knew instantly it wasnt the American flag....
I think the mix-up comes from lots of Disney-animated American flags being simplified to just the one star and a few stripes (Gravity Falls does it a lot), but the blue field is still a rectangle in those examples, so this is still 100% the Puerto Rican flag.

Honestly, this is one of the best episodes of the series, and also one of the hardest to sit through. Especially with Luz’s grief of the past events, Hunter’s trauma of Belos, and Flapjack’s sacrifice at the end.

Especially when that first experience was you being thrown against your will directly into it, at which point your attention is then immediately grabbed by a majorly traumatic event going on, and your brain just opts to not process the "fire" that isn't hurting you at all. The next time, walking into the fire _willingly_ with no other distractions to pull your attention away from it, is still going to be difficult to overcome lifelong conditioning for.
I was thinking the same thing about the rain. Grow up in a place with boiling rain, and you’re not going to instantly accept that rain is never hot here. Once is meaningless, twice is coincidence, three times is a pattern.
The scene where hunter breaks down is so amazing to me because i feel so many shows play that stuff off as a joke. They couldve had luz simply say "Are you crying?" And hunter play it off but instead they have a genuine moment that shows how much it actually meant for her to say that and it was super touching. I love this show
Hints Missed:
At the beginning the colors on the Band-Aid that Luz put on Amity was pink, purple and royal blue. Hinting before she told Camila that Luz was Bi. And Luz starring at the Band-Aid box because of how closer they resembled King, Eda, and Wooty.
4:35 That wasn't an American flag, it was a Puerto Rician flag. Manny, Luz's dad was Puerto Rician while her mom, Camila, is Dominican.
Inside Willow's Summer Scrapbook was not only a nod to Gravity Falls and Mable's Summer Memories but also potential episodes of the Owl House had Disney allowed them to stretch out Season 3. Also, in one of the pictures you can see them watching Hocus Pocus (which they did not like lol).
There are numerous hints throughout the special that Luz's palisman could be a snake: The Intro title, the garter snakeskin, the picture Luz drew in her journal, her shirt, the plushie in Camila's bag.
Flapjack hiding behind a gravestone was foreshadowing that he was going to die.
When Flapjack gave his life force to Hunter. Yes, his eyes changed however they could have been Flapjack's eyes. Hinting that him and Hunter have become one.
Notice the colors when Flapjack willingly gave his life to Hunter. When Belos took it by force the palismen's corrupted him and turned into toxic goo. While Flapjack turned into light glyphs and became one with Hunter -- showing he was at peace.

What’s interesting is that Caleb’s eyes were a dark coal color in the mirror, but hunter’s are hazel, I wonder if that’s flapjack or Evelin’s eye color, either way I like that they cemented another example of hunter as his own person and not a reborn Caleb

Another thing about Vee's new Look is that she keeps her true Ears as part of her new Hair style, as seen when she shift to look like Camille later in the episode
It's a small detail but I just wanted to add: Amity's hair is also a much lighter shade of purple than it was, showing the hair dye is fading as it does in real life. I thought that was a nice touch on the animators' part!
Did nobody else notice that when Amity gave Camila the mug, she had the teabag backwards.

It's amazing just how much they were able to pack into an episode without making things feel too rushed. I'm super stoked for the remaining two episodes, which I believe will air mid-January and mid-April, so all three are each three months apart from each other.

I just wanna point out the shirt foreshadowing between Vee and Camila with the pumpkin shirts, I also think it's adorable because that is the only mother figure Vee has ever had and when Vee got around to figuring out who they wanted to be they took inspiration from her.
Some details I noticed,
Philip took Caleb’s coat, the snake skin on Camila’s nightstand is the one Luz found as a child, and Azura movie villain’s appearance has similarities to Luz and her hexside uniform.
you could really feel the overwhelming guilt Luz had after everything that happened when there was the classroom scene

I've re-watched "Thanks to Them" a few times now and something I noticed that I haven't seen anyone else mention is that, during the graveyard scene, a white throated sparrow can be heard singing in the background a few different times throughout the scene, most notably when Luz first enters the graveyard, and when Hunter says "I already know" after Flapjack revives him.
A quick Google search will show that sparrows have had many different meanings associated with them throughout human history, however, one that stuck out to me in particular, in context to this scene, is that sparrows have long been believed to carry the souls of the dead to the afterlife. Could this be symbolic of Flapjack's sacrifice/passing?
I've seen a lot of people throwing around the theory that Flapjack and Hunter are now one, which I do agree with to an extent, but, what I want to know is, exactly how much of Flapjack has been joined with Hunter? Flapjack's sacrifice appears quite differently than any time we've seen Belos/Philip absorb Palismen. For example, looking back at all of the times that Belos/Philip absorbed Palismen, their magic always appeared green as he absorbed them and the Palismen would ultimately turn to dust once they had been fully absorbed. However, when Flapjack joins with Hunter, we see his magic glows yellow, and that he dissipates into golden orbs that fade out as they ascend into the sky. This makes me wonder how the will of an absorbed Palisman may affect the individual who absorbed them, and what ultimately happens to their consciousness/souls in the process. We see that the Palismen that Belos/Philip absorbed, against their will I might add, became trapped in his mind, almost as if they were stuck in some kind of purgatory, fighting him for control and warping him into a literal monster. Since Flapjack's sacrifice was a willing one, could it be that the opposite has happened; that Flapjack's magic has merged seamlessly with Hunter and that Flapjack's soul has passed on? This would explain why Flapjack appears to be fading away as he merges with Hunter, and why Hunter knows that Flapjack is gone when he wakes up, because he could literally feel that his presence was no longer there. Could it be that Flapjack gave the last of his magic to save Hunter, and that the sparrow's song here is a subtle hint that Flapjack's spirit has passed on?
Anyways, that's just one theory I have that I haven't seen anyone else touch upon, and I'm curious if anyone else has thought similarly, or has heard the bird song, but just didn't make a connection to some deeper meaning. I'm very curious to see how Flapjack's sacrifice affects Hunter in the upcoming specials.
Dang how did you notice that? And how did you know which bird it was? I can't really hear it (poor hearing 😅) but I'm always amazed how much detail and effort the Owl House crew puts into the show
@@401Sakura I was watching with headphones in and that's when I noticed the bird song. My sister and I are really into birds, so we put our heads together and were able to identify it. White throated sparrows are actually winter residents where I live, so that's how I was able to recognize it so easily.
I agree; it's awesome how much care and attention to detail TOH crew puts into their show. Considering how deliberate they are with details, I just had to overanalyze it and try to figure out the significance/if there was some deeper meaning. 😂
Another thing I want to point out that other outfit in the magic shop is based on Mae Borowski from Night in the Woods. Which is why it has cat ears.

I thought this was such a neat reference considering Mae and Luz's shared themes around guilt, mental health, and failure. All the references in the costume shop were thematically really nice with regard to Luz (at least I think - I don't know that much about Earthbound, but tracks from what I do know).
What I think about the Lumity moment in the rain, compared to the moment when the group arrived in the Earth realm. Is that when they arrived, they had to have been completely out of it until the group made it to Luz's house. So maybe that's why Amity was nervous about being in the rain for a second, because she wasn't paying attention before.
If it helps I always saw the moment of Amity being scared of the rain as instinct. If you live your entire life with super dangerous rain, one experience of being out in the rain is not gonna undo years of conditioned fear. Like if you went to a world where fire wasn't hot, it would still take awhile before you were comfortable jumping into a fire.
I hear this complaint a lot & it really bothers me. Amity is still afraid of rain because it's a life long fear response. Ex fire burns us & it hurts, one day you wake up & it's not hurting you anymore, the natural response is to still be nervous, not to just jump in & roll around like you've been doing this your whole life. It's like a normal, minor form of PTSD. Nobody questions why Hunter is still afraid of Belos, when as far as the characters know, they think he died. It's like when a kid gets bit by a dog & even though they know other friendly dogs they're still nervous & frightened. It's the same as Amity still being scared of the rain. It make perfect logic. (Also that wasn't the American flag.)
Puerto Rican flag
Gus already knows that Hunter’s a Grimwalker. He saw Belos’s memories.
Luz’s association with snakes makes sense. Snakes can embody Healing (Luz’s Willy-nilly changed the life of many characters of the Boiling Isles for the better) and Immortality (the latter case as Ouroboros, a snake eating its own tail), or Betrayal and Deceitfulness (what she believe herself in this episode for accidentally helping Belos, and for her tendencies to hide dark secrets from everyone).
Also the Wolf is a perfect choice for Hunter. Many associate it with savagery or repressed impulses, but also loyalty and protection, due to the wolf being a social animal who will stop at nothing to protect its pack
I love that Vee embraced her cute ears and blended them into her beautiful new hair
One thing about the flag, it looks a lot more like a Puerto Rican flag which is probably where Luzs family is from, camila is also a common name for Puerto Rican women so yea.
Others have noticed this too. It's been speculated Luz's father, Manny Noceda may have been Puerto Rican. While her mother Camilla is Dominican. Or is it the other way around?

There’s something that I noticed about Philip is that his appearance as Bellos is similar to Caleb and doesn’t look like as his original even though it’s been it’s been hundreds of years that no one can recognize him but Philip made his appearance to Caleb maybe he chose it because he wants to be right as he was a kid 🤔
It would have been epic if before crossing the portal Philip had returned to his human form and told Luz and her mother “I used to be like you… but I understood that I had to make sacrifices in order to follow my ideals. I lost everything in that world…my family, my sanity, my time and my desire to continue learning…I even lost my body and my humanity. But I won't give up...I won't rest until each and every one of those beings that I still don't understand why you protect disappear...only then can I finally rest and be at peace..." (Luz's mom throws a stone at him but he dodges it )
True that would've been epic as fuck but part of it with him admitting that he has lost both his sanity and his humanity seem like things he's to in denial of to actually say outloud especially to other humans.

I believe that Camila jumping into the water at the Graveyard to save Hunter was her not wanting what had happened to her late husband to happen again. As Manny's death could have been due to a lack of oxygen via drowning. And despite being rushed to the hospital, he died tragically.
Also, with how Hunter's VA supporting the Hunter Noceda idea, it's safe to say that Camila sees Hunter as her own child. Which actually makes her and Alador both be single parents who has three children each. Namely a son and two daughters. Ed and Hunter, Em and Luz, Amity and Vee. Oldest being a boy, middle child is a girl and the youngest is also a girl.
I heard her say bebé as well. Been on the sibling track from its start.
Slight correction: Emira is actually the oldest twin.

My theory for Amity still being afraid of the rain.
When you’ve grown up with boiling rain your whole life, even though you’ve already learned the rain is safe, you’re still gonna have trauma that the rain is unsafe. Kinda like people who have had abusive relationships. You’ll be wary
about the rain, that knowledge of cold rain happens in the last episode of season 2; when this rain happens, a few weeks have passed by, and it is instinctive, like when you press the switch to turn on the lights when you know there's a blackout

It would be weird (but epic) that after what Belos did to Hunter now Hunter can also become a monster of amorphous mass like Belos but that unlike Belos he uses those powers to help and protect everyone (then see a fight Between both)
I think the second special "For The Future" would probably start off with Luz and the gang arriving back in the Boiling Isles, only to be immediately captured by the Collector and are thrown into his game of "Owl House".
Couple of things, 1 the coupon in Camila's room hints that she's struggling with money due to having the extra kids. 2. Hunter blushes when willow leaves, I wasn't sure about the ship at first but the Lumity Fan RUclips channel has been posting comics to fill in the time skip and the more I watched, the more it made sense to me

Luz's egg made by herself reminded me of Digimon 3 when Takato created his own digimon from a drawing he made. A small egg was what was seen on the screen of his digivice but that small egg materialized and the cute but powerful Guilmon was born...

in an alternate universe it is Luz's mother who arrives on the boiling islands when she was young, meets young Eda (recently bewitched) they become friends and together with some students from Hexside ( Raine or Amity's father) and the guardian of It's time they fight to stop Belos
The fact that this lovely show is slowly coming to an end saddens me, but it's been a wonderful ride🥰
That was the best episode of season 3 of the owl house and flapjack giving his life was a memory that always has me into tears so I can't wait to see the last 2 specials!

The only thing missing is that in the end she is the one who saves both worlds and destroys the last piece of Belos by stepping on it, everyone on the islands finds out and congratulates her. They congratulate her so much that they want to make her their new queen/empress and and Luz becomes another Disney princess
which makes her likely to be in kingdom hearts its genius

I think with Amity and the rain is that even if she knows that the human rain won’t hurt her, even if she’s already felt it, the years of fearing the boiling rains produces a reflex response that one instance isn’t going to change quickly.
I also liked that Willow's clothing choice resembles the style of Roller Derby athletes. Additionally, I wonder if the names of Cosmic Frontier being reference to other Star Trek characters like Captain Avery as a reference to Avery Brooks, who played Commander/Capt. Cisko from DS9 and O'Bailey being a little of a reference to O'Brien of both TNG & DS9.
I'm convinced the rain scene from the montage was meant to be part of a planed earth intro.
From the fact Luz showed Amity it was safe acting as shorthand for they're on Earth not the Boiling Isles, to everyone coming out just feeling like an intro, to the light spell mirroring the light glyph in the previous intros.
Re:rain
When they first got to earth, they were all in shock. They watched what was thought to be the most powerful person in the world be destroyed effortlessly, followed by their world being torn apart. That's some serious trauma. The fact that Amity was too distracted to notice or remember that it was raining at the time isn't at all surprising. I'd be shocked if any of them remember much of that day besides the bad parts
Wait no- the school Luz goes to has a sign saying “Go Wolves!” If Hunter does stay on earth, would he go to school with Luz? And would he be one of those kids decked out on spirit days?
I don't know if that's the USA flag 🇺🇲 or the Puerto Rico flag 🇵🇷. I think it's the Puerto Rico flag. Which could mean that Manny (Luz's dad) could be Puertorican, while Camila is very obviously Dominican. Which means that Luz....

26:50 the costume in between the two mentioned is a reference to Mae Borowski from the indie game Night In The Woods that came out back in 2017. Highly recommend checking out the game and it’s story as it has lots of good representation just like The Owl House and shares some similar themes though targeted at a more mature audience!💚💜

Also something you and alot of people have missed, the costume in between the Ness and ako at the magic circle is ungodly similar to may from night in the woods but with a diferent colored shirt, the logo is the same as may and it even comes with cat ears (may being a cat) and one of the ears is notched.
An intelligent way to beat the collector would be to challenge him to the one who indexes all the digits of the number π, he accepts and since π is a number of infinite digits, he stays counting forever?

I think the reason that amity doesn’t realize the rain when she gets out of the portal is because of how unimportant it is in the moment, so she didn’t even notice it. Now that it was the main thing, she notices and cares.

My guess is that Hunter will become Dell Clawthorne's apprentice. Dell is looking for someone he can teach palisman carving to, and Hunter does tell Belos that that is something he wants to learn, likely as a way to make up for all the paliemen he has provided Belos with throughout the years.

I think the snake on Camilla’s nightstand simultaneously represents that deep down she does deeply relate to and care for her daughter and her daughters passions, I believe it is a preserved snake skin, maybe even the one from the playground that Luz found. It really stuck out to me as a significant symbol, because it has multiple meanings, but also, it’s just so sweet. It make my heart melt a little. 😂🥰

This is a great video and for the dancing in the rain bit, I don’t think that they would have noticed that it was raining when the group came though the portal. It was most likely all a blur to them. So when Amity and others saw human world rain they most likely didn’t know that it wasn’t the first time they had touched rain.
