  • In this video, my 2005 Arctic Cat 400 is getting a custom lowrange reverse mod because all it has is just highrange reverse that is very weak and really sucks butt. It has high and low forward but a high reverse only is just unacceptable. I fabricate the shift drum/cam so the fork goes into low range instead of high range, making reverse like the Hondas and how it should have been from the factory.

I forgot to mention another reason for this mod: it is less wear on the centrifugal clutch! In high it slips a lot and never fully engages unless you are moving way too fast. In low it fully engages smoothly and has less wearing, making the clutch last longer!

    looks like a great mod!

The automatics never had this problem because they had an "override" button and the reverse was geared right. The manual Arctic Cat and Suzuki Eiger 400s are the only 4-wheelers I know of that have this issue. If you know of any others then comment the year, make, and model. This will help me and anyone else know in the future!
