    You can also use the Deep cut blade. If you use Strong Grip transfer tape on the back of the leather (or clear packing tape) it won't leave the residue on your mats. Also a good idea to move the leather across and down the mat, easier to tape. Thanks for the video.

    I’m a brand new Cricut Maker owner and was really curious the types of projects and materials I could use. I have to admit I was apprehensive as the software Cricut presents seems rather restrictive for what I want to do (first impression only), but knowing now that I can design custom shapes in other apps has put my fears to rest. Great video, it helped me a lot.

    You should use transfer tape on the back of the leather and and then adhere it to the mat. This way you don't ruin your mat.

    I saw this machine in Michaels. For people with fewer accuracy handworks, needs this machine and who makes a lot of things in every day.

    I am using a pattern that has many holes for having a visible string in a steam-punk style mask. Do you think the Cricut can handle the little holes in leather with the knife blade? Thanks for any thoughts on this.

    Trying to decide on purchasing this , how often does the blade need to be changed ? My exacto knife blade has to be changed out every 5 or 6th project

    amazing interesting video you are a charm! I have a question about the durability of the cutting boards, how many times can you put the leather on before it runs out of stickiness.

      INSIDE SOLINA I just watched a different video that showed using the vinyl transfer material (clear sticky transfer sheet) on your mat and place the leather on the transfer material instead of directly on your mat. It saves your mat and holds the leather securely.

      Putting your leather face (hide side) down will help. If a mat is no longer sticky, I spray it with 409 and use a silicone spatula to clean it and let it dry. Eventually that won’t work and you’ll have to get a new mat.

      @@cindiegaither1065 I’ve seen videos where people said you could use packing tape on the back (fuzzy) side of your leather, if you don’t have the vinyl transfer material.

    troubleshooting question. I calibrated my machine, tested 1 piece. worked great. but then when I added 2 pieces, Cricut overlapped my two pieces. (it is not overlapped in design space) do you know why it would do this or how to prevent it next time? im cutting 2mm hard leather.

    • @orionshomeproductions
      @orionshomeproductions 3 года назад +1

      were they overlapped in the mat reveiw? you can move them at that point

      After you layout everything, select all then click on attach at the bottom. This locks the layout and prevents DS from trying to optimize your layout.

    Did you put that flesh side down? If so, does this work grain side down? I suspect it would leave less residue on your mat if it works that way.

    What is the paper underneath the leather (is it necessary?) and what tyoe of tape is that?

    • @LeatherworkSchool
      @LeatherworkSchool  2 года назад

      Hi - thank you for your question. The Cricut requires a cutting mat (the purple) underneath the leather. There is nothing else under the leather!

    What do you do if you want to cut multiples designs of the same thing? Does the Maker set it up to optimize use of the leather or do you set it up?

    • @LeatherworkSchool
      @LeatherworkSchool  3 года назад +2

      Hi Rebecca - You need to set everything up. If you want 5 of the same cuts, you need to set up a layout with the 5 cuts, placing them close together to optimize your leather. Or you need to feed 5 pieces of leather in to be cut separately.

    There are a host of laser cutting machines that are more than capable, between $2500 and $6500. Still a lot more than a cricut, but not 6 figures.

    • @LeatherworkSchool
      @LeatherworkSchool  2 года назад

      The problem with a laser cutter is that the laser burns the leather. You can’t get great finished edges with a burned edge!

    • @WilliamWilson_org
      @WilliamWilson_org 2 года назад

      @@LeatherworkSchool I feel like that's something some masking tape prior to cut and some light edge sanding, which we all(?) do now anyhow, would solve that.
      I've seen great results from some crafters out there.
      I think it helps if the leather is thinner as well.
