I went to Wyandotte High school with Norman and he asked me to play piano for the jazz band when the pianist got sick. I was a classically trained violinist and pianist but he taught me how to play an awesome "funk" beat! I am looking forward to seeing him on the next Smooth Jazz Cruise. He was awesome when we were teenagers and I love listening to him today!
This is my first time listening to Norman Brown.... It is also my first time knowing about him. My uncle who is older than him was just telling me what a great player he is and that as a teenager Norman was showing him licks..... Awesome!
Without a doubt, Norman Brown has international appeal. His talent crosses cultural lines. His fingers are fast, they seem to defy normal guitar playing. He is taking the George Benson, Wes to another level, today.
There's nothing wrong with sounding like Benson. Any guitar player that has ever attempted to learn a Benson song knows to have yourself even remotely compared to Benson isn't a bad thing at all. It's an accomplishment. Norman Brown is da man!
I love me some jazz boxes ,looks like he's playing a D'angelico .As a trumpet major and guitar minor ,I can comprehend his techniques ,excellent use of octaves and comping . He's keeping the spirit of jazz alive !God bless them all and special thanks for forging your own unique style .
Norman is my favorite artist in the world. me and my wife recently went on a jazz cruise. where you actually get to meet shake hands and mingle with greats like norman. He is one of the sweetest good hearted people that you will ever meet. God Bless you norman. Your friend - Ray aka scooby chain.
Norman Brown is an excellent artist and jazz music genuis guitar player .He is known to be effected by George Benson's style and he says that Mr. Benson is his hero.He is a master.
I agree, I saw him at the Jazz festival when he formed BWB. That was one of the best shows I had ever seen. When I saw him last year it was not the same Norman Brown. He needs to get back to instrumentals which won him a grammy.
BB King once said that he likes to play a riff than pause before playing the next line to give the listeners time for it to sink into their ears and minds. Norman Brown is my favorite post-George Benson guitarist but I always thought he over plays a lot, it's like he feels he has to play a riff in every bar of every song. Besides for that this dude will hopefully one day get recognize for how great a talent he is....great licks and very smooth playing.
Love this music I grow up on this my mom played this type of music all the time I Hated this type of music but now I love it thx you mom for showing me good music
Obviously he does to all of us but, he is older now since this video. I am going to see him in Seattle on the sixth (Friday next week) and hope to post some nice videos of that concert.
Back in my better guitar days, I got into jazz and decided to give it a shot. I picked up After The Storm, and dug in. What was I thinking… I’m still working on Any Love twenty years later…
Al Black: there is room for all to be who they be and plenty of people to appreciate it....But I do get your point, I prefer to play riffs just like Norman Brown but I also now understand when people exposed me to the concept of (K)eep (I)t (S)imple (S)tupid....I wanted to learn how to riff through the whole song first much like Charlie Parker could when he felt like it.
God DAMN, Norman did his thing! He is the man! Sorry.... I'm partial to guitarist. I tried to be one myself. Learnt my lesson and stuck to trumpet and piano. (but I'm going to keep trying trying .....guitar is the most beautiful instrument in the world to me).
as you see I did the same thing. in fact when B.E.T. Jazz was on the air I was always looking in the TV guide to see when it came on. I was already into George Benson, so it was a no brainer to like Norman B. I was still learning how to play the sax and I would always learn from guitar players and keyboardist like oscar pererson for example. I like that free flowing melodic style both instruments are capable of delivering if they are in the right hands!
@GigglingGirI I want to see you top Norman Brown. That mans a Grammy winner and still creating music. I can't wait to see your performance and get your cd.
To play with this kinda speed and accuracy is absolutely phenomenal. Wish more people appreciated jazz guitarists

Norman Brown, learned from Wes the great Montgomery, and George Benson taught him how to play. Read his bio.

Not only has the vocal/guitar licks down, but he's playing an Ibanez "George Benson" model Guitar.

Timbre lindo dessa guitarra semi acústica, banda muito bem entrosada! Parabéns aos músicos!
everything s all right. yt needs more recordings of norman.. great master
I've been looking for guitarists who were Black and not BB King or Greg Howe. Thank you uploader for this.
Hoje todos eles estão colhendo um resultado dos seus ensaios e conhecimento de produzir um bom jazz
Back in my better guitar days, I got into jazz and decided to give it a shot. I picked up After The Storm, and dug in.

Una faceta que no le conocía. Fantástico.....
