My first time hearing this rendition. It was just playing on the radio, I decided to look for it. This song went through my heart and soul to my my bones. I felt that each musician was playing the respective instrument with heart. Tears came to my eyes.

Me too. 🥰 Ohhhhh how I miss Grover ! So glad we have him recorded !!! My last job was DJ on KXDC in Pacific Grove, Ca. 1991-92. Grover was one of my favorites to find on my playlist. ♥️♥️♥️
Believe it or not, Bob James' music inspired me to study when I was in college, the long study nights when I had to prepare for final semester exams ... That was the music that accompanied me during the long nights of study, now in my 60's I still listen to it with greater admiration .. Bob James you are great !
Sorry to hear your Dad has passed. His tone on the Bob James LPs from the '70's was one of the things that inspired me to switch from guitar to bass. His playing was tasteful and exquisite yet powerful. I wish I could have thanked him in person for all of the happiness his music brought me.
I first listened to this song my sophomore year in high school-it was like being ushered into a new world. This record came out the same year as Quincy Jones’s “Body Heat” album, which featured “If I Ever Lose This Heaven”-1974, a great year for music!
This just popped up on my phone. I went to middle & high school with Earl. He has been playing like this since were kids. It wasn't the music young, inexperienced ears want to hear. But, We always respected him at our talent shows because we were aware of his gift. ❤❤
I still think his relationship with that world is complex and somewhat conflicted, and I can understand why he feels that way. He sees the creativity in how people repurposed his music to make something new, but he still also seems disappointed that People didn’t ask for his permission or invite him to actually collaborate. Imagine how cool some of those early hip-hop records would have been if they actually featured Mr. Bob James himself
