#7 Mad Max!!! Love this game so much. I bought this game one night because it was $3.99. Figured what’s the worst that could happen. I went on to dump about 85 hours into the game! The combat is fun, the world is amazing, the graphics are great and I love all the different villain characters. This will always be one of my favorite games that I just happened to stumble upon.

Alpha Protocol is a rare case of actually being a forgotten gem. It is rough in some aspects, and nowdays pretty dated, but the reactivity to your choices, conversation style and background story is still a stand out example of how it can work. My favorite example being that an important antagonist, who will run away when you confront him, can actually be fought if you act like an arrogant prick to him in all previous interactions. It was also very psychological and everything you did felt meaningful, especially when talking to people. A true gem.
I looooved it! Everytime I tell people about it they at first don't believe me. It's 100% a forgotten gem but yeah it's roughon the edges but it was a memorable journey.
Only forgotten by those who haven't played it I would suggest. I haven't played it but have seen it mentioned on so many videos and I've watched quite a few long plays/in depth reviews of it. There are just so many games to get through particularly of that era that I have yet to get around too including this one. It is dirt cheap too as it is often overlooked. Overlooked is the word I would choose over forgotten when it comes to describing Alpha-Protocol.

Binary Domain was such a satisfying shooter. The hook at release was that as you shot the robots pieces would fall off, so there was that feeling of gradual destruction that felt new at the time.
Mad max had the most satisfying hand-to-hand and vehicular combat I have experienced in games yet. The game had so many unique mechanics that were never seen before.
I've given it a couple tries and see how it has a huge cult following. I want to like it, and I really should, it's exactly the kind of game I should love. I don't know why it doesn't connect with me
@@stephengrigg5988 I finished it back in the day and while it definitely has it's moments it is also very repetitive. That's something of a trademark of the developer Avalanche - they make sandboxes where you're supposed to entertain yourself.
@@rgb1996 I thought the combat was too clunky and slow, and that the characters were pretty unremarkable for such a perfect setting to run wild with. I loved how the cars drove and they had a great weight and destructible feel to them. But you're right, it was repetitive, and the massive bland world didn't help break up the monotony
This War of Mine is somberly exquisite. A huge dose of reality that smacks you in the face with grief but somehow manages to instill hope. The fact that you're actually buying a game that helps fund relief for war victims IRL is the cherry on top. Curling up with this game during a cold winter is especially pleasing. Worth every penny at full price.
more lists like this, please! I love to see lesser known games highlighted. Some other channels talk about the same 20 games over and over and they get very boring.
Cuz most the unknown games are unknown for a good reason, cuz they suck. But IMO, my fav game that isn't as well known is Returnal. Returnal is insanely underrated IMO. Also Chained Echoes, but that game is getting more well know cuz it's amazing.
@@A-Dubs398 Not all "unknown" games suck, then. Returnal is really good - it's on my wishlist (to boost the developers) even though my brain doesn't work in a way that lets me do it. Chained Echoes is like that girl you met decades ago - not that nice a person, but you still wonder how they are doing. It's a fantastic game, to my mind because - although it's not flashy, it really, really makes you think. Another problem I have is that, being sixty-something-and-change, games I played in the 80s and 90s are just not on anybody's radar anymore. The original 3D Battle Chess, or Elite: Frontier. Or my favourite... "Hunt the Mugwump"!
I would LOVE to see Enslaved: Odyssey to the West included on one of these lists. Such a gorgeous post-apocalyptic world created by Ninja Theory, then you get to add in Andy Serkis as the voice of Monkey and his Mo-cap. What turns into a game long Escort Mission, much like Elizabeth in Bioshock Infintie, becomes a heartfelt, enjoyable third person platforming, meleeing, sometimes shooter through the greenest post-apocalyptic world I’ve had the pleasure of playing in. TLDR; talk about Enslaved a little please.
@@gazt81 Even the CEO, or someone else high up, mentioned they should be making a sequel a few years ago but it just didn’t sell well enough. The Pigsy DLC is pretty fun if you haven’t tried it. Obviously he plays much different than monkey, but was a lot of fun too.

I own and LOVE Alice Madness Returns. I can't even remember how many times I've played it over the years. Definitely one of my top 5 favourite games and it is very sad that we won't be getting another installment.
@@JishinimaTidehoshi it won't be, they tried pitching it to the higher ups once they had everything ready to be presented before go ahead and the company said no and so they won't be doing the sequel at all now. Feel free to look it up.
Starting off with Alice: Madness Returns, instantly gets a thumbs up from me. Sure the game has its imperfections, but it is a ton of fun. Especially if you like darker takes on classic stories.
I loved the Deadpool shoutout. I think that game was so great. I laughed so hard while playing that game that I had to put the controller down several times to compose myself. That game really understood Deadpool more than anything else I’ve seen in media.
Alice was SO GOOD. Still have it installed on Steam because I love to go back and play it again from time to time. Gory, unique, and just fun all around.
I just beat MadMax again for the third times since it was released. They did such a great job on the game and it is a sleeper among alot of more casual gamers. I showed a few of my friends the game and they loved it. I haven't met anyone who has played it and said they hated it. Every few years I fire it up, and it doesn't take long to get hooked on it again.
As a KORTOR fan I bought AP when it came out. I liked it, but it becomes unplayable if you don't do it right. I lost interest after I just couldn't progress anymore and it became a headache. And I tried MM, the combat was just too clunky for me. I need to try it again,as I know so many people love it. I want to as well.
@Dan Bardos the combat in Madmax is all about timing your button presses. You can't hit the attack button over and over it's slower and more powerful hits. Also with the counter attacks you can fight ten guys at once and not even be hit. It's worth a shot again just take the combat slow. Max is a power puncher, especially in rage mode.
The games where buggy as heck if I remember correctly. Played the two first on PC ages ago and even if they where fun, there where some really game breaking bugs.
I've been raving about Gunslinger to my friends for ages but they weren't interested, shame because it absolutely bangs. Thanks for bringing people awareness to it!
Alice Madness Returns was such a blast, and the fact that you could unlock the previous entry and play through that game, too, made this game amazing. It was such a blast
Yeah, I find it weird as hell. It's a fantastic game, should have had more, but the one is good and doesn't really need a sequel, would totally buy it though
It's a great game, I had it stored on my ps4 for about a year before I ended up playing it, and wow.. (I should've played it sooner) It's a really great, enjoyable game. It costs virtually nothing to buy from the PS store too.
Alpha Protocol was a gem for me, it made me so mad as a kid and my parents threatened to sell it so I buckled up and figured I’d tough it out and found it to an amazing RPG with amazing choices that effected quite a lot
As Dusk Falls is the best game I've played with my XBox Game Pass. It took a moment to get used to the art style, but once I did, I was hooked. Plus things changing so much depending on seemingly random story choices was fun. What to do with one character's father influencing how they react with a gun later was super cool (I played it through twice because it was so good, and had such wildly different endings)
Black Mesa is a must to play game even for Half Life veterans who completed game many times. Adding incredible musics to appropriate places and remaking some of the art (especially in Xen) was reaaly good choice for the developers.
I still remember when I played call of juarez gunslinger years ago, it was such an amazing fun game, they captured the western style amazingly and I am still disappointed that there is no sequel
I just got done playing the first Call of Juarez. Normally, I don't like the older games FPS games as they seem too primitive now. But I really liked it and and going to play the second one next.
Mad Max truly is an underrated gem. I've played dozens of open-world games and it's easily in my Top 10. Loved the hand-to-hand combat, destroying things felt incredibly satisfying, and the car upgrades really kept things fresh. Not to mention that it is a ton of fun to 100%
Preordered it when it was released had the 1st one as a kid and loved Alice in other lands American mcgee gave the Alice genre an absolute nightmarish but amazing story that should be finished!
I remember picking up Binary Domain and not expecting much, but the game turned out to be a banger. The story was full of plot twists and corny, but extremely fun. The best mechanics of the game was how you can shoot and tear down the armor and limbs of robots and see metal chunks flying off. It was really satisfying.
This war of mine is very tricky and a fav to this day. At first you likely won’t survive, but once you learn from mistakes. You’ll likely survive 45-50+ day’s until the war is over. Too do it again under more intense scenario’s
I'd say def the Metro series gets overlooked a LOT. Sure it's gotten more attention especially with the third entry, but that game has so many elements that are atmospheric, immersive, surprising emotional. It's fantastic and deserves more love. Especially how dynamic its wildlife AI is. I've never seen any other game get close to how well done and balanced that mutant wildlife is.
except this game got released on pretty much every platform since its launch so people were able to actually play it not to mention it gets talked about a LOT by RUclipsrs for years
@@martinde-serres8724 what's your point? Still a great game and worth a playthrough. Everyone has played HL and Black Mesa but it still gets spoken about
This War of Mine really intrigued me and it turns out I already have it downloaded so big ups to y'all for inspiring me to play it and myself for already having apparently downloaded it in the past 😂
Alpha protocol was actually one of my favorite games. Got it because I was super into the Mass Effect seris, and it was somewhat close to the first game
I think characterizing it as a third person shooter isn't fair either given you could play it much closer to Splinter Cell. My run was a stealth run so I didn't have a ton of survivability for straight up combat, but it was hella fun for sneaking around. Only the last boss kind of sucked
I’m so happy to see The Pathless on this list. I found that game so beautiful in its simplicity. And then there’s that Austin Wintory soundtrack that brings me to tears. It’s so much fun but also almost… meditative? Idk. I love it!
Night in the Woods, Oxenfree, Sally Face, Little Miss Fortune... Some very good, and varying degrees of disturbing, single player indies with great stories and surreal elements.
I love interactive storytelling games and had no idea it existed. I'm on PS5 and apparently the game is getting a port in March 2024 so I'm definitely gonna be on the lookout for it.
Madmax.. Those thunderstorms were terrifyingly atmospheric and frightening, and somehow beautiful too... You never forget your first mad max 'Sandnado'..
It's definitely worth playing I personally did it to 100% completion I really enjoyed it, it's not just pretty but the sound design is fantastic too it's as I said in a review for it it's a great way for graphics snobs to actually play half-life rather than claiming that they have as we know there are many of them out there...don't forget 🍕 and the 🎩 😏
I bought it on sale in a whim, it was only $4.99. One of the best games I’ve played in a long while and throughly enjoyed updating the Magnum Opus and all the vehicular combat. I truly feel like I ripped off Avalanche Studios paying so little for such a wonderful game.
I still boot up Mad Max every so often! This game is extremely deep and I’ve never seen better open world car battles before. Also the weather especially the storms are massive, terrifying and unique!
You might enjoy frostpunk (the best one, if you haven't already played it), surviving Mars, surviving the aftermath (sequel to 'mars' IMHO not as good, maybe the dlc fixed that idk) and most recently released: terraformers (the most "pop" version for sure, but) I'm quite enjoying it! Oh, and possibly darkest dungeon (2) as well! Though it's a bit of a tone -shift
@@allibababoo appreciate the suggestions. Always looking for those. Already played Frostpunk (not as a series), and partially played Surviving Mars as a series. I'll check out the other two though. Thanks!
Alice: Madness Returns was such a lovely game. The art direction was something I had never seen before and it created a really unique atmosphere. It could get quite creepy at times, too. I was devastated when I heard a month ago that EA didn't want to fund a third game :( Man, it really deserved to continue. Having another iconic female lead in gaming wouldn't have hurt!
Idk American McGee's an overrated douche. They were trying to create a new "rock star" game developer like John Romero, and used his street cred at id in a failed attempt. He just used every popular goth trope at the time, I doubt he did much to even develop the game.
I absolutely loved playing Deadpool as a kid, Call of Juarez is Definitely going to be a new purchase for me on Steam now, and surprisingly I'm rerunning through Mad Max at the moment too.
I actually just finished Alice like a month or so ago. I'm not big on platformers but I loved that game. So creative and interesting and kind of a whodunnit too. Totally would play again.
Love this list, dude! This War Of Mine is extremely underrated & overlooked. Such an emotional rollercoaster, so much depth to the characters & story, so many tough, heart-wrenching decisions to make. If you haven't played it, please do! It's really quite something - but you need to prepare yourself, it really hits you HARD, squarely in the feels! Then it does it again, and again... Honorable mention: Contraband Police. A very recent release, but I watched a video of someone playing through it, and it was quite impressive. Think Papers Please meets (insert FPS here) meets The Long Drive, and you're about 1/2 way there...
Echo was SO GOOD. Trying to figure out how to progress through a sequence without doing too many certain actions made the puzzles that much more fun and challenging
If you can look past Asura's Wrath's overreliance on QTEs and Capcom's questionable money-making shenanigans, this is an amazing single player experience with a story that may be a bit simple but it works, it has amazing cinematic cutscenes and breath-taking music that matches the pacing. It's easily in my top 5 most favorite video games of all time and yet saddly it's overlooked by many.
I remember absolutely hating the "buy the episodes" , the whole action was mind boggling, story was very emotional and good. Should have been an anime 😢
THANK YOU!!! You mentioned alpha protocol and I absolutely love that game to this day. I still have my first original copy of it. One of the best stories I’ve ever played❤
Love how these keep coming up in my feed from Gameranx. Some of my all time favs were Pandemonium, Cold Winter and No One Live Forever. If they ever did a reboot of No One Lives Forever, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
As Dusk Falls was SO good, and the ability to pick different choices by all players, and giving people limited "charges" to force their decision was awesome and different
Yeah, I’m enjoying it but that presentation style is jarring. I can only play for so long before feeling like I have epilepsy. Wish they could’ve cleaned that up a bit, but I understand, budget. Overall, solid game, tho!
Loved lost in random. It was "free" on gamepass as well. I played every single game on this list haha. Idk that has ever happened on a gameranx list for me before
I’m lucky enough to have picked up the PS3 disks with American McGee’s original Alice game & Madness Returns. So glad to hear the shout out for this disturbingly gorgeous horror game which takes place in a very twisted Wonderland - and the soundtrack is incredible. From what I’ve heard we came so close to getting the sequel - Alice Asylum, but EA did what EA often does and turned their backs on SP gamers (I’m surprised we even got Jedi Fallen Order & Survivor). They’ll support a few Indie Devs, why not this one?
Absolutely fantastic list! I've played nearly all these or have them in my library waiting to be played. Alpha Protocol was a bit janky at times but the overall game and it's concepts are Soooo damn good! I wish there were more like it or a second Alpha Protocol just with a new agent, I always find myself going back to AP every couple years or so to enjoy it again, I've already played it since it released.....I'd say 15 times, it never gets old, it's just such a fun game! As can be said for MANY of the games on this list, but also many couldn't be fit into the list as well as most of these were more recent games on newer platforms, there's still plenty of old games people looked over that are great too! All I gotta say for someone looking for new games, single player or not, don't limit yourself to the most up to date games or even ultra realistic graphics games, theres a plethora of old and older games out there that are dated visually, yes, but they are 10x better than most games today that dump their budget into photorealistic graphics instead of making a well rounded game. There's plenty of fun to be had no matter what the game looks like or when it came out....just give them a chance and you could be blown away!
The worst thing about Binary Domain is that the main idea was the ability to talk with your in-game partner and issue orders. The entire game was built as proof-of-concept for player's interaction with in-game NPC's, sadly, the voice thing never really worked properly.
can confirm ASTLIBRA is AMAZING. Amazing story and the combat system is gratifying and makes you want to come back for more after you get DECIMATED from a difficult segment.
Alpha Protocol were such an underrated game despite clunky movement and average storyline. You can choose what Agent you want to be throughout the gameplay. And you can gear-up your character and choose the mission you want to play with the different difficulty and money prizes. I really love the RPG elements in that game
Because Control had a lot of attention and so, most people have played it or at least knew about it. This list is more about games that are not talked about much.
9:30 So glad to see Echo get some love! Only played it recently and couldn't understand how it flew so far under the radar. Completely original, narrative driven, brilliant stealth / action game.
I actually have played As Dusk Falls and I loved it. I didn’t think the art style and photographic stills would work for me at first, but I’ve grown to love it. Highly recommend As Dusk Falls.
Assassins creed odyssey and origins are easily one of the best single player games ive played. Just started odyssey week ago after completing origins and i can highly recommend Ac odyssey for people who havent played it yet. Beatiful scenery, good graphics, satisfying combat, big map etc

I love it!
it's the copy of Batman Arkham games
This War of Mine is somberly exquisite. A huge dose of reality that smacks you in the face with grief but somehow manages to instill hope. The fact that you're actually buying a game that helps fund relief for war victims IRL is the cherry on top. Curling up with this game during a cold winter is especially pleasing. Worth every penny at full price.
I pirated it because I'm from south sudan
fr it's even available on android.
more lists like this, please! I love to see lesser known games highlighted. Some other channels talk about the same 20 games over and over and they get very boring.
I know it will be harder to do, but, wow...yeah!
@@michaelmacdonell4834 I'm not saying all unknown games suck, just most.

It was the first game that popped into my head when I saw the video. Shame Ninja Theory never got to give it a sequel that it deserved.
That was a good game, but kinda got repetitive and boring as it went on. Still finished it, but it felt like a chore by the end.

I own and LOVE Alice Madness Returns. I can't even remember how many times I've played it over the years. Definitely one of my top 5 favourite games and it is very sad that we won't be getting another installment.

Starting off with Alice: Madness Returns, instantly gets a thumbs up from me. Sure the game has its imperfections, but it is a ton of fun. Especially if you like darker takes on classic stories.

It's unfortunate that it is so difficult to find a way to play it.
Is there any way I can play it?
@@Jelly1525 An Xbox 360 and a hard copy of the game is about the only way I know of.
Alice was SO GOOD. Still have it installed on Steam because I love to go back and play it again from time to time. Gory, unique, and just fun all around.
Mad Max is probably one of the most enjoyable game experiences I've had. And Alpha Protocol was so fun! Feels like it got completely forgotten about
Not really tho
I loved Alpha Protocol! Kind of a ridiculous game but what a shame that there was never a sequel..
Call of Juarez is such an underrated franchise. Hope the franchise can return someday. Great vid👍.
Edit: I want to see a binary domain sequel as well.
I love that game
This one is great, but the last one they mad does not have the same charm to it 😔

TURN UP THE RADIO 📻 TURN IT UP I NEED THE MUSIC 🎶🎵 GOTTA GIVE ME SOME MORE!

Absolutely LOVED this game. Played the full campaign at least a half dozen times.
I remember playing it and getting very annoyed at having to unlock the ability to have head shots do one hit kills. It was such a trip to play though.
I do go back and play it occasionally. The unarmed combat system is straightforward but satisfying
The uplift of Xen was amazing and well worth the wait.
I tried Black Mesa but the screen always goes too dark to see anything even with the brightness turned up all the way, making the game unplayable.
@@Jeremy-ql1or that's good man, they are pretty fun games but still s bit underrated

Mad Max truly is an underrated gem. I've played dozens of open-world games and it's easily in my Top 10. Loved the hand-to-hand combat, destroying things felt incredibly satisfying, and the car upgrades really kept things fresh. Not to mention that it is a ton of fun to 100%
Alice Madness Returns was an incredible game. I got it the day it came out because it looked so cool. Freaking loved it.
Yes sir :-)
I agree. I got the bad karma ending in the third game and nearly cried

Alpha protocol was actually one of my favorite games. Got it because I was super into the Mass Effect seris, and it was somewhat close to the first game
It was amazing. I Played It so often, again and again. On Xbox 360 and PC
Idk. I love it!

Deadpool! I love that game. Got it digitally on my PS3 I still play it from time to time. I love the scene where you keep slapping Wolverine. 😂
Night in the Woods, Oxenfree, Sally Face, Little Miss Fortune... Some very good, and varying degrees of disturbing, single player indies with great stories and surreal elements.
Oh man I loved As Dusk Falls. Such a gem with an absolutely wild story and even wilder branches off the main narrative

I'd wager to say it improves every bit where Half-Life was lacking. It's a true work of wonder.

It's a flawed masterpiece I think
Have you seen the behind of the scenes, the director didn’t take anybody else’s direction.

Unfortunately they can’t make another one, and the story behind that (and how close they came) is truly tragic.

@@YourPalHDeethe branching storyline options were so damn enjoyable that I replayed the game way more times than the gameplay warranted
The worst thing about Binary Domain is that the main idea was the ability to talk with your in-game partner and issue orders. The entire game was built as proof-of-concept for player's interaction with in-game NPC's, sadly, the voice thing never really worked properly.
